Yu Zhen lied. Li Xueyue woke up alone in her bedroom. The room was dark and the candlelight was extinguished. She blinked rapidly, adjusting her sight in the pitch-black darkness.

"How late is it?" she muttered.

Li Xueyue touched the place around her and found it was very cold, which meant that Yu Zhen had not come back at all.

She reluctantly got out of bed, shivering in the biting cold. She couldn't help but get goose bumps, but she quickly picked up a piece of clothing from the foot of the bed and covered herself with it.

"It should be midnight now," Li Xueyue added. She quickly fastened the belt on her robe, her legs trembling with every step.

She ran a tired hand through her hair. "Maybe he's busy at work."

Li Xueyue unlocked the window and pushed it open. To her delight, the moon was high in the sky. It was a perfect circle, high in the sky, lighting the way for lost wanderers. In the distance, crickets were chirping and leaves were rustling in the wind.

It was a calm, peaceful night, but she had to enjoy it alone.

"I should go visit him."

Li Xueyue returned to the bed and found her shoes neatly placed in the corner. She put on her shoes and walked to the door, wearing only his decorative robe. Like his obsidian eyes, the robe was black as night but decorated with gold embroidery.

Li Xueyue pushed the door open and stuck her head out.

"Good evening, Princess Consort. What can I do for you?" A guard greeted her hurriedly. After all, they were stationed at the door, and according to the prince's order, no one except him was allowed to enter.

"No," Li Xueyue said. "How late is it now?"

"Princess, the sun has been setting for a long time. It's almost midnight and many people have gone to bed."

Li Xueyue nodded. She was grateful for their well-trained eyes. No one stared at the obvious marks on her neck, but maintained a respectful expression and pretended not to see anything.

She smiled bitterly and recalled what someone had said to the guards and servants. Li Xueyue was worried at first that they might have heard her words. But Yuzhen assured her that everyone had evacuated the house. Only he had the honor of hearing her words.

"I'm going to take a late-night walk," she said suddenly.

The guards exchanged glances. They had received clear orders to make sure no one entered the room. But there was no mention of the Crown Princess leaving.

"If you go with me, just rest assured." Li Xueyue walked out of the bedroom and prepared to go to Yu Zhen's study.

"Princess," one of the guards began, "if it is the prince you are looking for, we can send a servant to inform him."

Li Xueyue pursed her lips. Wouldn't it be more convenient this way? But she didn't want to pull him away from work, she just wanted to make sure everything was fine.

"I suppose he's finishing some paperwork in his private study?"

"My apologies, Princess. At this time, the guards are unaware of his whereabouts. However, we would be happy to send someone to find him and report back to you."

Li Xueyue smiled slightly. "It seems that everyone wants me to avoid trouble." She said thoughtfully.

They lowered their heads in response. Apparently, the guards had been caught red-handed.

"I see he has tightened security around me," Li Xueyue added. Her voice was gentle, without a hint of impatience. Given his protective nature, this behavior was to be expected.

She was just surprised it hadn't happened sooner. Maybe the roundtable discussion sparked something.

"Then send someone to bring him to me."

The guards' eyes widened in horror. They didn't have the guts to ask the prince for this. Not many people had the power to make him leave. No one but the emperor.

"Don't worry, he only came for me." It was obviously a joke, but they believed it.

"Princess——"

"Or I could go find him."

"No, that's not necessary, Princess," the guards stammered.

Li Xueyue smiled with satisfaction. "That's great." She looked around for a lantern and found one hanging by the door.

She took up the lantern and brought it into the house.

"Tell him to bring food. I'm hungry."

Li Xueyue closed the door, blocking their faces. However, the image of their pale faces was deeply imprinted in her mind. Everyone was terrified and thought that tonight would be the last night they would breathe.

They are so stupid.

If the guards knew, the first person to report it to the prince would be rewarded.

"How could he not wake me up for dinner?" Li Xueyue complained as she placed her hand on her empty stomach. Her stomach subconsciously growled in protest, gurgling for food.

Li Xueyue thought, he probably wanted her to get more rest. This wish was very thoughtful. However, he didn't expect the consequences to be like this. Her sleep cycle was disrupted. She now had to stay up all night and could no longer fall asleep.

"Well, there's more time for cuddling," she consoled herself.

Li Xueyue walked to the dressing table, where she could see the beautiful night sky. She sat down and placed the lantern at her feet. She cupped her cheek with her palm and looked up at the moon.

Countless times during the nights they were apart, she looked up at the sky, wondering if Yuzhen did the same. She found it interesting that they were both under the same bright moon, yet thousands of miles apart. The distance between them was great, but their hearts were never far apart.

"You'll catch a cold."

Li Xueyue was not frightened by his sudden appearance. He always appeared silently and his movements were always so gentle. Until now, he still approached her silently.

“I’m admiring the moon.”

His hands were on her shoulders. She could feel the heat radiating from him. He was so close to her. It was enough for her to feel the excitement in her heart.

"Or, you can just enjoy the scenery around you."

Li Xueyue couldn't help laughing when she heard what he said. She kept looking ahead. He was so angry because he didn't pay attention that his hand slipped down.

"I love the way you look in your robe." He stroked her fingers gently. She shivered at his touch, a hint of a smile on her face.

Li Xueyue had read enough books to know, "Is this why you let me sleep so late?"
