Chapter 282 The old woman warned
"Once, I remember it was a stormy night, I was frustrated because of the failure of magic practice, my mother sat beside me and whispered to me: 'Failure is the teacher of success, every failure is an opportunity to learn. As long as you don't give up, you will eventually master the true meaning of magic.'"
Irene's eyes were full of admiration. "Her words are so full of wisdom."
"Yes," Lin Nan continued, "She is always so wise and gentle. No matter what difficulties I encounter, she can always give me strength and courage. Once, I was injured because of a dangerous magic experiment. Not only did she not blame me, but she comforted me and helped me analyze the problem and find a solution."
Irene said with emotion: "She is not only your mother, but also your mentor and friend."
Lin Nan nodded. "Yes, she has played many roles in my life. Her teaching and care have made me who I am today. I have always hoped to be like her and help more people."
The two were silent for a while, enjoying the warmth and strength brought by memories. The train continued to move forward, and the destination gradually approached.
"Erin, have you ever had a mentor like this?" Lin Nan asked.
Irene sighed softly, "I have a sister who has always been my companion and friend. We have experienced many adventures together and have supported each other. Although she is no longer with us, her courage and wisdom have always inspired me to move forward."
Lin Nan held Irene's hand, giving her support and comfort. "Your sister must be proud of you. Everything we do is for those we love and those who need help."
Irene nodded, determination flashing in her eyes, "Yes, we will complete this mission together, for the people we love, and for the world."
The train gradually slowed down, and the lights of the station were faintly visible in the distance. Lin Nan and Irene packed their equipment and prepared for the upcoming challenge. They knew it would be a difficult battle, but they were fully prepared.
Emily and Anthony exchanged a look, obviously considering the feasibility of this suggestion. "This may be our only option." Emily said, "But we have to act quickly, because time is running out."
The team quickly packed up their equipment and set out again to find energy. Passing through the ruins and debris, Lin Nan led them towards the east of the city. Along the way, they carefully avoided collapsed buildings and burning ruins, maintaining a high level of vigilance.
As they approached the main power station, they found that the damage was more serious than they had expected. Huge power towers had collapsed, cables were scattered on the ground, sparks flew, and the whole area was filled with a dangerous atmosphere.
"We have to be careful," Lin Nan warned, and she led the way into the main control room of the power station. Most of the equipment here was destroyed, but some core facilities were still intact.
"Look over there, there are a few backup generators." Emily pointed to some equipment in the corner and said, with a hint of excitement in her voice.
Lin Nan and Emily quickly checked the status of the generators and found that one of them was still usable, but it needed to be manually started and the output power adjusted.
"Anthony, can you help us start this generator?" Lin Nan asked. She knew that Anthony had rich experience in mechanics and electricity.
Anthony nodded, walked over to the generator and started to operate it. As he adjusted it, the generator emitted a low hum and gradually resumed operation.
"We did it!" Anthony announced, a rare smile on his face.
Emily connected the time controller to the output of the generator and began to charge it. As the current flowed, the screen of the time controller lit up again, and the progress bar rose rapidly, this time without the previous signs of instability.
The two ran for a long time, and only stopped to rest when they were sure they were no longer being chased. Their hearts were beating fast and they were sweating all over, but fortunately they still kept some of the items they found.
"My God, that old woman is like a warrior," Emily gasped, trying to rub her injured leg.
Lin Nan nodded. The pain in her shoulder made her feel a little uncomfortable, but she endured it. "We have to keep moving forward and not let these setbacks bring us down."
They reorganized their belongings, made sure everything was still there, and continued to move towards the safe area. Although they encountered an unexpected attack, they did not give up. They knew that returning to the safe area and ensuring the operation of the time controller was the most important thing.
When they finally returned to the safe area, Anthony saw their miserable state and rushed over to them. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"We had some trouble, but we found some useful things." Lin Nan replied briefly and began to hand the found batteries and chargers to Anthony.
After being driven out by the old woman, Lin Nan and Emily did not walk far. They stopped a short distance away from the residence and decided to try to talk to the old woman again. They realized that this old woman might know more about the situation in this place and might even provide some important information.
Lin Nan and Emily adjusted their emotions and walked towards the residence again. This time, they raised their hands to show that they had no hostility.
"We really have no ill intentions, we just need some help." Lin Nan stood outside the door and spoke loudly, hoping the old woman could hear him.
After a while, the door opened again and the old woman stood at the door, still holding the iron rod in her hand, but there was less hostility and more caution in her eyes.
"Why did you come back?" the old woman asked coldly.
"We just want to understand some things." Emily took over, trying to make her voice sound soft, "Maybe you can tell us more about what's going on here. We really just need some help."
The old woman stared at them for a while, finally sighed, put down the iron rod, and motioned them to come in.
"Come in, but don't try to do anything tricky," the old woman warned.
Lin Nan and Emily breathed a sigh of relief and followed the old woman into the house again. They carefully sat on the sofa in the living room, ready to listen to the old woman's story.
"My name is Martha, and this place used to be my home." The old woman said, with a gleam of memory in her eyes. "Everything has changed since the disaster."
"Disaster?" Lin Nan asked, appearing very interested.
"Yes, the falling of planetary debris." Martha nodded. "That day, I saw strange lights flashing in the sky, followed by a huge explosion. The whole city was in a state of panic.
