The Split-Actress in Conan's World

Chapter 53 New Map Unlocked: Osaka

Osaka is the second most developed city in Japan along with Tokyo.

Compared to Tokyo's clear sense of order between commercial and residential areas, Osaka is obviously not so particular about urban planning.

For example, landmarks such as Tennoji Zoo, Osaka Dome and Tsutenkaku are actually surrounded by residential buildings.

Unlike people in Tokyo, people in Osaka seem more leisurely when they appear in these places.

Because Tokyo people tend to have clear goals. They go to work when they go to work and go home when they go home. On their days off, they go out for fun.

But people in Osaka are not like this. They may simply finish their meal at home, walk around or take a walk.

This is the difference in cultural style caused by the planning of the two cities.

The city of Osaka has more of a rural and earthy feel, and the people here, like the land, have inherited that warm and simple temperament.

"What do you think? Osaka is a good place, right?" Hattori Heiji stood on the observation deck of Tsutenkaku, with his back to the whole Osaka, his arms open, with pure pride on his face.

As a typical Osaka man, he loves the place where he grew up from the bottom of his heart.

Osaka is never worse than Tokyo, he thinks so.

The capital has its own prosperity, and Osaka also has its own characteristics.

"The view is really great." Conan stepped on a small stool and looked out through a telescope.

Maori Kogoro looked around and gave a rather tactless comment: "It looks exactly like the Tokyo Tower."

"No way, don't compare it with that boring red iron tower. Our Tsutenkaku has the advantage of cultural heritage!" Hattori Heiji wore his classic baseball cap backwards and smiled.

"Tsutenkaku and the nearby Shinsekai are full of the local customs and culture of Osaka people."

"It looks like Haido Town." Mao Lilan also looked outside and couldn't help but sigh.

"We've been walking around for almost the whole morning and I'm almost starving. Hey, Osaka boy, do you have any plans for our lunch?" Uncle Maori loosened his tie, touched his stomach and began to complain.

Hattori Heiji rolled up his sleeves and looked at the watch on his wrist: "Well, wait a little longer, someone should be here to pick us up soon."

Kogoro Mouri had no choice but to run to look at the orange-shaped lantern hanging on the wall, wondering if this thing could be eaten.

Seeing that the attention of the Mori father and daughter was not here for the moment, Conan jumped down from the small stool, pulled Hattori Heiji's arm and ran to the corner to start a whisper between the detectives.

"Hey Hattori, there must be another reason why you asked me to come to Osaka, right?"

Hattori Heiji was stunned for a moment, then smiled and waved his hands: "No, didn't I say I would invite you to Osaka when you grew up last time?"

He held onto the railing and looked out, his eyes surprisingly deep.

“Because life is unpredictable.”

“The moment of life and death often comes at an unknown time.”

"?"

Conan looked at this guy who started to feel sad for no apparent reason, and a big question mark appeared above his head.

Isn't this what Haibara did? How come you, with your thick eyebrows and big eyes, also learned it?

"I had a dream." Hattori Heiji said in a heavy tone.

"Dream?"

"Yes," he put one hand in his pocket, turned sideways and stared at Conan, "When I was about to arrest the murderer, I was stabbed by the murderer instead..."

His attitude was so cautious that Conan even felt a little nervous.

Then this guy went back to his annoying look: "You ended up dying in this dream."

"Hattori, this is not funny." Conan squeezed out a pair of dead fish eyes and chuckled.

A young policeman with a crew cut ran up the stairs from the Tombstone. He had a big, thick nose and a pair of bulky black-framed square glasses on his nose.

He rubbed the back of his head and smiled sheepishly, "Sorry, Heiji."

"Oh, it's finally here." Hattori Heiji looked back.

"I'm Yusuke Sakata from the Higashijiri Branch of the Osaka Police Department. I'm so sorry, I was stuck in traffic for a while."

Mao Lilan came over from the observation deck with a confused look on her face. "What are the police doing here?"

Hattori Heiji smiled at her cheerfully, "My dad heard that you were coming, and he said, 'Mr. Mori has come all the way to Osaka, so you should entertain him well.'"

"Oh, by the way," he said, remembering something and looking down the stairs. He didn't see any other familiar figures. "Where's my dad? Didn't he say he would come?"

Sakata Yusuke glanced around, a little hesitant, and after hesitating for a few times, he came close to Hattori Heiji and said, "The director is in a meeting about that case, so..."

Although he lowered his voice, Conan, who was standing next to him, still heard it because of his height advantage.

That case?

Conan secretly took note of this key point and kept it in mind.

"Okay, okay, he is a busy man after all." Hattori Heiji didn't have much hope in the first place, as he also knew something about that serious case.

"What about the car? Is it ready?"

"Of course!" Sakata Yusuke quickly rummaged through his pockets and took out a brand new car key. "As you requested, I borrowed the best car in the Higashijiri Police Station!"

Uncle Maori heard their conversation, and his long-lost memories of working at the Metropolitan Police Department began to revive. He narrowed his eyes and guessed something in his mind: "Hey, the car you are talking about could be..."

"Let's go, I'll show you around." Hattori Heiji looked mysterious and led the way downstairs.

A few minutes later.

"Sure enough, I knew this would be the result." Kogoro Mouri covered his forehead and sighed, but he was vaguely eager to try.

He hasn't ridden in a police car for almost seven or eight years since he quit his job as a criminal police officer. How should I put it? He even misses it a little bit.

"You will know soon that police cars are the best for navigating traffic in Osaka." Hattori Heiji took the lead and skillfully got into the passenger seat and fastened his seat belt.

He called for the Maori family to get on the bus quickly: "People will give way when there is a traffic jam, so the journey will basically be smooth."

"You can run a red light occasionally, but you have to use the siren."

Watching the three people getting into the car with different expressions, Hattori Heiji turned around and asked with a smile: "Okay, where do you want to go now, three distinguished guests?"

Conan's mouth twitched, and he sat between Uncle Maori and Maori Ran, sitting very obediently: "I... Heiji-nii, isn't it a bit strange to use this kind of car to visit Osaka!"

"Why, you don't like it?" Hattori Heiji said with a hint of genuine doubt. He stroked the clean leather cushion, patting it here and there. "This is a new car."

"No, no, I think what Conan meant is..." Mao Lilan also looked a little embarrassed. She looked at the strange eyes of passers-by on the sidewalk outside the window, with a little blush on her face, "It's a bit embarrassing."

“It felt like I was under arrest.”

Hearing this, Hattori Heiji laughed out loud and sat up straight with his arms folded: "Don't worry about it. We haven't done anything bad anyway. It's fine as long as we are aboveboard."

"When I was a kid, my dad would often send me to school in a police car when I was almost late. I got used to it."

"Oh, then he is really a fellow traveler!" Uncle Maori became excited. He sat up slightly and was in a rare mood to reminisce.

"I used to drive Xiaolan to school in a police car when she was almost late. It was really useful!"

"Huh?" Mao Lilan was confused as she listened to this. She had no such memory.

And Dad rarely talked about his past experience as a criminal policeman.

"You were still in kindergarten at that time, so it's normal that you have no impression of it." Uncle Maori waved his hand casually, didn't continue speaking, and turned to look at the street scene passing by outside the window.

However, after a few glances, he suddenly narrowed his eyes and stared at the rearview mirror intently.

If I remember correctly, that taxi had been following them two blocks ago?

After silently memorizing the license plate, Kogoro Mouri collected his thoughts and stopped participating in the laughter and play in the car. He calmly observed the taxi with its strange itinerary.

I could vaguely see someone in the back seat, so the car was not empty.

The wheels turned very stiffly during the two lane changes just now, and it looked like they were just following their temporary lane change.

There was some reflection on the upper part of the windshield, but the lower half of the driver's face could be seen, and his mouth was moving all the time, possibly communicating with the passenger in the back seat.

Well, there is a possibility that the driver was distracted by chatting and did not have time to change lanes.

"There's a very authentic udon noodle restaurant in front. Let's go there and try it first!" Hattori Heiji pointed to the street and shouted back.

Upon hearing this, Yusuke Sakata immediately turned on the turn signal and prepared to pull over.

Kogoro Maori glanced at the taxi following behind him.

Very good, I pulled over in advance.

He had made up his mind.

"Is this the one? It doesn't look that great." Kogoro Mouri's seat was closest to the edge, so he was the first to get off the taxi. He put his hands in his pockets and while looking around the store, he secretly kept an eye on the taxi out of the corner of his eye.

What’s strange is that even though the car was pulled over, the passengers didn’t seem to have any intention of getting off.

Hattori Heiji quickly took them to their seats and placed their orders with ease.

Soon, several bowls of pork bone udon were served.

"How is it?" Hattori Heiji first pressed down the pork slices with a spoon, scooped a spoonful of golden and clear soup, brought it to his mouth and took a few sips.

"Authentic udon requires clear broth!"

Conan broke open the chopsticks, scooped up the soft and glutinous udon noodles, slurped them into his mouth, and then paired them with a spoonful of boiling hot and sweet soup. His whole body trembled and he squinted his eyes in satisfaction.

"It has a light taste and is delicious!" As a person who has always loved sweet and sour tastes, he spoke highly of the sweet taste of Osaka.

Kogoro Maori followed their example, took a big sip from the bowl, and then smacked his lips.

"Hmm, tasteless."

"Isn't it? It's delicious, right?" Seeing that they all liked it, Hattori Heiji was delighted and started to eat his own portion with satisfaction.

"Uh, I mean... forget it." Kogoro Maori stared at him for a while, and finally gave up correcting the mistake.

After all, not everyone's taste buds have been destroyed by Eri Kisaki.

One-third of the ingredients in half a pot of miso soup are salt.

After tasting this "human delicacy", even those with a weak taste for food will no longer be able to enjoy it.

The owner of the noodle shop seemed to be very familiar with Hattori Heiji. Seeing that they were enjoying their meal, he came over with a smile and asked if they wanted more noodles.

"Heiji, who is this girl? Is she your new girlfriend?" the boss teased in a joking tone.

"Oh, is it similar?" Hattori Heiji was not annoyed, but touched his head and smiled.

"No!" Mao Lilan quickly clarified with a red face, "I'm from Tokyo..."

Halfway through her words, she suddenly felt a little uneasy, as if a pair of evil eyes were staring at her from behind.

But when she turned back to search, she found nothing.

"What's wrong?" Conan asked when he saw that Mouri Ran was a little restless.

"I feel a chill..." She shook her head, attributed it to an illusion, and quickly put it out of her mind.

After tasting the udon, they returned to the car and began looking for the next target to attack.

"How about Okonomiyaki?" Mao Lilan suggested, pointing to a picture book called "Osaka Travel Guide."

"I know there is a restaurant with delicious food, but it's in the opposite direction." Hattori Heiji took the illustrated guide from her, feeling a little distressed.

"Osaka is good in every way, except that there are too many one-way streets. It would take a long detour to go back home."

Kogoro Mouri yawned and a tear came out of the corner of his eye. He wiped it away and looked through the rearview mirror, and sure enough, he saw the taxi again.

But this time, the passenger in the back seat came to the front seat, and with his eyesight, he could just see the girl's gnashing teeth in anger.

She looks about the same age as my daughter.

Thinking of the joke the store owner played on Hattori Heiji, he almost understood it.

Glancing at Hattori Heiji who was struggling with the route, Maori Kogoro could only sigh for him.

Alas, peach blossom debt.

Debts must be repaid——

He didn't know what he remembered, and he shivered all over. He crossed his arms obediently and tilted his head to look at the scenery.

Yusuke Sakata, who had been driving diligently, smiled and said, "Then I'll take you to a restaurant that's closer. It's also delicious."

He turned a few corners and saw an okonomiyaki restaurant with an old sign on the side of the road.

Sakata Yusuke parked the car and waved to them apologetically: "I'm going to make a phone call first and will be back soon. You guys go in first."

"He looks quite anxious." Mao Lilan was stunned for a moment, then lifted the curtain and walked into the store.

"I guess he wanted to call to inquire about the situation because of the shift change at the police station. That's what being a police officer is like. You have to keep your cell phone open even when you're on vacation." Hattori Heiji said nonchalantly.

He shouted to the boss who was frying okonomiyaki, "Boss, don't forget the rice!"

"Eating Okonomiyaki with rice?" Kogoro Mouri complained. Even in Kisaki Eri's diet, eating staple food with staple food is extremely inhumane.

“This is how they eat it in Osaka. It tastes even better when you pour the sauce over the rice!”

As he said that, he walked towards the sauce area and prepared some condiments for himself.

"Osaka and Tokyo are really different." Conan and Mao Lilan looked at each other and reached a consensus.

Da da.

The flat sneakers deliberately stomped heavily on the ground, making a not-so-crisp knocking sound.

The person who came was wearing a beige sweater and passed behind Conan and Mao Lilan.

She pulled out the seat that originally belonged to Hattori Heiji next to the two of them, pulled up her skirt slightly, and sat down very decisively.

"Ah, here..." When Mao Lilan looked up, she saw a girl of the same age as herself. She had a high ponytail that looked very youthful, with two strands of hair falling in front of her forehead. She wanted to remind her that there was someone here, but was interrupted by the girl.

"You are Kudo, right?" The man held his cheeks with both hands, making his chubby cheeks pout.

"Ah?" Conan was sandwiched between two women and was suddenly hit on the face by a flying dragon. His brain suddenly stopped working.

"Heiji often mentions you in front of me." She released her right hand, turned her head to look at the two of them, her narrow eyebrows slightly wrinkled, and an inexplicable fighting spirit burned in her eyes.

Hey hey!

Conan was shocked. Could it be that Hattori was so unreliable?

Is he going to be exposed again?
