Chapter 177 Banquet and Anger
In a quick year, the royal farm was covered in golden color. The king looked at the fields full of golden ears of wheat, which looked like a curtain of golden beads, sparkling in the bright sun, and he could not help laughing.
Seeing him like this, Rui also smiled!
The next morning, he could not wait to see the king and wanted to travel far away, but was told, "Your Majesty has a lot of official business these days, it is difficult to meet!"
After waiting for half a month, Rui could no longer sit still and planned to leave a letter and leave without saying goodbye. However, the guards put a sharp knife to his throat and took him to the throne.
"I originally thought that you should have seen through my meaning long ago. Now it seems that Mr. Rui is really just a good man who is devoted to his studies and ignorant of worldly affairs!" The king's face was no different from before, but in Rui's eyes at this moment, there was no kindness at all.
"Why, didn't your majesty promise me?"
"How can such a treasure be leaked out!" The king looked down at him calmly, "Do you know how much wealth these grains, which have never been seen on the market, will bring us. Look at this rich appearance, and how warm it is when you peel off the skin, like white jade. It will be very valuable!
Look at these again, what wonderful creations, so light, yet able to resist the cold; sweet and delicious, easy to store and preserve... these are all things that can make money. Mr. Rui, how can I bear to let you go!"
The sunlight shone through the huge round glazed window above the throne, diffusing into countless colorful lights that illuminated the king's back. A huge shadow enveloped Rui, and looking at those greedy eyes, Rui felt as if he had fallen into an icy cave.
His voice was trembling, and he was a little bit unbelievable. "Aren't you the king? This grain can relieve the hunger and poverty of the people, and this white cotton is for the cold winter... Why do you only care about gold and silver, but not your people?"
"People? Subjects? Humph, you mean those untouchables!" The king seemed to have heard a huge joke, "What kind of subjects are they? Hahahaha...hahaha...
Eleven years ago, how many of them died in that cold winter? Aren't they scattered all over the ground now? How could such a good thing be given to them?
As long as the royal family and the nobles are still there, the kingdom will still be there. Even if all the untouchables die, I will have a way to get new untouchables. They are just tools. Why can't you, who is so smart, understand this?"
Hearing this, Rui's brain buzzed, as if thunder exploded in his mind, and he didn't even know how he left.
He was then imprisoned, and the guards who had accompanied him in the past were completely aware of his surveillance. Ray refused to continue his research and teaching, and no one paid any attention to him.
Inside the palace, the king stood with his hands behind his back, "Mr. Rui, you are still unwilling to work hard!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!" After the minister replied respectfully, the duke could not help but say, "What a fool! You are worthy of being a baron. Do you need me to do anything, Your Majesty?"
"There's no need to do unnecessary things. When he faces reality, he will understand that those ridiculous ideals are meaningless!" The king looked at the colorful glazed windows. The brilliant light illuminated the gloomy and terrifying face, like a twisted desire.
"Then may I have the honor of inviting Mr. Rui to my banquet, Your Majesty?" A young and handsome duke in the crowd spoke with a voice as gentle as jade and his manners were generous and elegant.
"Of course, but I hope you can control the strength. I don't want to bring back a madman!" The king did not look back. He recognized the other party's voice and just smiled slightly, making the face swaying in the light and shadow even more terrifying.
"I will, your majesty!" The young duke thanked him heartily and turned to leave.
A few nobles in the crowd looked at his departing figure with dim eyes. Some of them couldn't help but sigh, "Alas!" They thought to themselves, "How could such a madman be able to hold the position of Duke?"
A week later, Rui was taken to a banquet. It was said that many nobles were present and it was a regularly held gourmet banquet. The Duke who hosted the banquet specifically emphasized that he must be present.
The venue was dominated by gold and red, and was magnificent. The nobles were dressed elegantly, and most of them brought young dance partners, which was very glamorous. But for some reason, Rui felt a chill down his spine when he looked at their smiles.
Wandering alone in the venue, Rui was a little hungry. Just as he was about to take some food, a gray-haired old man pressed his arm down inconspicuously, "If I were you, I wouldn't eat the food here."
Before Rui could see the other person clearly, the old man had already gone far away, as if he had casually passed by and merged into the crowd.
At first, Rui didn't understand what the other party meant, but he didn't touch the food in the field. Instead, he sat quietly in the corner. It was not until the host with long light golden hair and pale face, who was not like an ordinary person, made a drowsy speech that Rui finally understood what the old man meant.
"That's enough small talk, let's move on to the theme of our banquet. Guess what kind of delicious food I have prepared for everyone here this time!"
As the young duke finished speaking, a girl in a white dress came pushing a food cart half a person's height. It was covered with a red cloth, hiding the food that was more than half a person's height below.
Amid everyone's cheers, Rui stared blankly at the red cloth being slowly unveiled. All of a sudden his stomach churned and he vomited all over the floor.
After the intense nausea, endless anger surged into his mind. He uncontrollably pushed past the group of cheering monsters and headed towards the so-called delicacy, "What... are you doing!"
Rui roared, and used his strong body to break a path through the crowd, but was pinned to the ground by a group of heavily armored knights.
Rui's eyes were red, the corner of his mouth was broken, blood stained his teeth, and he screamed like a madman, "What are you doing, bastards!"
"Of course I'm tasting delicious food. I think your guard should have told you the theme of this banquet." The young Duke squatted in front of Rui with a smile. His smile was still so decent and noble, but in Rui's eyes it was like the devil's smile.
"That's a person...that's a person!" Rui's voice was trembling. He struggled hard, the veins on his neck bulged, and his eyes were bloodshot.
On the dining car, there was a beautiful girl kneeling with her hands clasped in front of her chest. Her lifeless eyes seemed to be looking up at her god, praying for His protection.
She just knelt there quietly, with no trace of life left in her body. Her pale skin was faintly visible with blue veins, like cracked ceramic that could break at any time.
"People?" The young duke suddenly laughed, looking at Rui as if he had seen a joke. "No, no, it was food. It was the most delicious food I have ever eaten in my life. You should know how wonderful it is to have a full stomach when you are extremely hungry. It's a pity that I have never been able to find that taste again. My cooking skills were obviously very poor at that time."
"That's a human!" Rui couldn't help but screaming heartbreakingly. He listened to the sound of the young man's laughter, which echoed throughout the hall, and his heart was terribly chilled!
"You actually treat the untouchables as human beings, how strange! I remember that you seem to be a descendant of the nobility, right?" The young duke said in disbelief, and then as if he remembered something, he pretended to be enlightened and said, "Oh, I almost forgot, your father died of starvation. I think in his territory, he must have been an aristocrat who treated those untouchables very well. What a stupid guy!
If he had chosen to treat these untouchables as food like I did at that time, you would not have died, you would not have wandered overseas, your poor mother would not have starved to death, and your family would still be fine now..."
Before the young man could finish his words, a strong hand grabbed his chest as he leaned forward, and pulled him to the ground. A large amount of blood came out of his mouth and nose, and he was knocked unconscious.
"Don't insult my father. He is not worthy of being compared with you monsters!" Rui shouted angrily.
When he was taken away again, Rui was still cursing, "You are a bunch of monsters in human skin. Now is not a famine, and now is not a cold winter, but you are still doing such things. You are not worthy of being human!"
