Learn magic in Harry Potter

Chapter 66 Ancient Magical Writings

The next morning, while having breakfast, Wright asked Borgin to teach him alchemy!

Borgin agreed respectfully, but warned that learning alchemy was not safe and accidents were not uncommon.

"Is it very dangerous?" Wright frowned, thinking back to the books he had read, which basically only introduced the principles of alchemy without many cases.

"Of course it's dangerous. Alchemy is generally divided into two categories! Ancient alchemy and modern alchemy!"

"Ancient alchemy is mostly based on extracting life and changing matter! Many evil magic rituals and even the three unforgivable magics are derived from it."

"The black magic props currently circulating in the world are all made using ancient alchemy. They are relatively easy to make but the risk of backlash is high."

"What about modern alchemy?" Wright pondered for a moment and continued to ask. Although Borgin was definitely proficient in the making of black magic props, Wright didn't want to develop in this direction.

"Modern alchemy was proposed by Nicolas Flamel. It is based on magic writing and engraves magic directly on objects, thus eliminating the need for the casting process."

"But when making magic props, if you draw the magic words incorrectly, an explosion will occur!"

After saying that, Borgin paused and looked at Wright, waiting for him to make a decision.

Wright had to admit that Bogin was very qualified to be a teacher. After listening to his explanation, he immediately understood the differences and risks of the two schools.

"Which one are you better at? Any suggestions?" Wright thought for a moment and threw the question back to Bogin.

After a moment's thought, Bojin expressed his opinion:

"I am more proficient in ancient alchemy! But I also know modern alchemy! If you are a beginner in alchemy, I suggest you start with modern alchemy."

Borgin's answer was not too far beyond Wright's expectations, but he became curious after hearing his last sentence.

“Why is it recommended that beginners learn modern alchemy?”

"Because modern alchemy is more controllable and there are enough literature as reference, it won't be a big problem."

"Ancient alchemy is too uncontrollable and too professional, and many valuable books have been collected by large families or destroyed."

Borgin revealed everything he knew.

"Okay, then let's learn modern alchemy first and get started." After listening to Bogin's advice, Wright made a quick decision.

The two hurriedly finished their breakfast and went to the basement. The store was closed!

Instead of going directly to the work area, Borgin took Wright to the secret room where the books were collected in the dark and handed him a key.

"Here is the key to the library. All the documents you need to study and refer to are in here!" After saying that, Bogin took Wright to the next more secret room.

Wright then followed Bogin to a small door in the corner and watched in amazement as he opened the many safety guards and took out a large stone slab!

Light looked at Borgin, panting as he carried a stone slab half a person's height on his back, and seemed to understand why he had a hunchback.

Wright helped Borgin carry the slate to the work area. Looking at Borgin who had just finished his rest, he asked in confusion, "What is this? Didn't you say you were going to teach me modern alchemy? Or is it related to this slate?"

"Indeed, the spells of the modern magic system are constructed mainly in Latin! This is because the ancient magic texts have been lost, and only this inefficient method can be used to cast magic."

Having said that, Bogin straightened his clothes and continued speaking solemnly.

"And the writing on this stone tablet is the third generation of magic writing! It can be said to be the oldest writing that still exists in the wizarding world. It is also the most precious treasure in the family."

Looking at the serious and solemn Bogin, Wright didn't know what to say for a moment.

"Can you explain it to me?" Seeing that Bogin had been proud for a long time, Wright couldn't help but speak.

Hearing Wright's words, Bogin also recovered from his proud mood and answered respectfully.

"Boss! I've said before that the modern magic system is composed of Latin, and the expressions are often not as precise as those in ancient writing. Casting magic in Latin will increase the chances of accidentally hurting yourself!"

"The same goes for alchemical items! Using ancient characters can reduce the risks when making alchemical items to a certain extent!"

"And we can arrange the ancient magic texts in a specific way to obtain more precise effects than modern magic."

"Plus, learning magic words will be very helpful in studying ancient alchemy in the future."

Bogin explained the function of the stone slab and the purpose of taking it out with a sincere look on his face.

"Then how do I interpret them?" Wright felt a headache looking at the hundreds of ancient characters sparsely written on the table.

"Boss, the key is already in your hands! The library contains the achievements of several generations of our family!"

Bogin looked at Wright with burning eyes, very happy with his decision to betray his family.

Feeling his eager gaze, Wright couldn't help but shrink his head and said guiltily:

"Then I have to memorize the text translated by your family first, right?"

Bogin kept nodding his head and praising Wright's intelligence, which made Wright feel even more guilty.

"What's next?" Wright interrupted Bogin's bragging with some embarrassment and guilt!

Bogin also came back to his senses, stopped boasting, and continued talking about the next steps!

"The second step is to engrave ancient magic text on the item that can operate stably."

"The final step is to arrange the ancient magic text so that it can be used to cast spells stably, and the missing text can be filled in with Latin."

As Borgin spoke, he took Light to the library and took out dozens of translations of ancient magical texts!

"Unexpectedly more?" Wright watched Borgin carrying a cart to load the books.

"There is no other way. After all, every word must have accurate information to prove its effect. Otherwise, it will be very dangerous!"

While looking for books, Borgin explained to Wright why there were so many books to explain the hundreds of ancient magical texts.

Borgin pushed a cart full of books and followed Wright to the work area.

"Boss! Let's start learning!" Bogin stood in front of the stone slab and began to explain the meaning of ancient magic texts!

"This inverted cross has a horizontal line that cuts off the bottom section, representing that things are interrupted at the very beginning. It can be used to make protective props."

"This text is small at the bottom and wide at the top, representing the expansion of the event. It can be used to make enhanced props."

“This text…”

……

This week, with Borgin's dedicated teaching and Light's enhanced talent and unremitting efforts, Light finally learned and understood all the ancient magic texts.

At the same time, Wright also received the message from the stone tablet: "Skill: Magic Rune: 2".
