Hogwarts Lion Girl
Chapter 46: Penelope the Petrified
The walls of the castle looked even older in the thick darkness. The cracks between the stones exuded a chilling chill. The windows, with their flickering yellow lights, were like the eyes of ghosts, peeking at the outside world from the inside.
There was an oppressive damp chill in the atmosphere, and the moist air seemed to condense into water droplets, hanging on the dark ivy and moss in the corners of the wall.
Every breath seemed to be able to taste the dew. On the wall, the outlines of the plants trembled in the wind, giving the castle a vitality, but this vitality became particularly panic and uneasy in the boundless dullness.
In the distance, thunder rolled gently over the mountains, and then dissipated into the night with an inexplicable pressure.
Salina finished her evening practice and was about to return to the Gryffindor common room. As soon as she turned a corner, she saw an extremely horrifying scene.
His heart was pounding, his blood turned cold in an instant, and the wand in his hand almost fell off.
Salina's footsteps seemed particularly loud in the silent night, as if even the sound of her own breathing and blood flowing joined this quiet and almost eerie melody.
The echo of the spell still lingered in her mind, but at this moment all her senses were focused on that corner.
Her muscles were tense, and Salina stood there stiffly, unable to support her own weight.
A Ravenclaw girl was lying on the floor, her face as pale as snow, her long hair spread out on the ground like a lifeless vine, spreading out helplessly.
His body was slightly hunched, as if he was experiencing unspeakable fear before his death, and the fear frozen on his face was unforgettable.
Her fingertips were slightly raised, as if pointing to the depths of the corridor, or trying to hold on to something.
Serena recognized her, Penelope Clearwater, the prefect of Ravenclaw.
At this moment, her eyes were wide open, and the shock and despair reflected in her pupils destroyed her former intelligence and elegance. Her eyes were like an empty corridor, with only the wind whispering, but unable to awaken the sleeping soul.
The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only the sounds of breathing and heartbeats interweaving to create a heavy sense of compassion.
Next to her was Myrtle, who was no longer the light, agile, transparent milky white, but was surrounded by black smoke. She was quietly suspended six inches above the ground, with the same terrified expression on her face as the girl on the ground, and her eyes were staring blankly ahead.
With rapid breathing, Salina looked around in confusion in the empty corridor. Every step she took echoed on the deep stone slabs, as if receiving some kind of response in the invisible darkness.
At the end of the corridor were large ancient suits of armor, their armor casting shadows under the pale light, like silent guardians, watching her hurriedly walk past them.
The spiders in the corners seemed to sense some invisible fright, and they hurriedly fled along the walls and cracks, as if foreshadowing a disaster. They fled in panic, leaving tiny shadows on the cold gray walls.
"Spider?! It's a basilisk!"
Salina took a deep breath and tried to calm her heartbeat, but the silent corridor and sudden movement made her feel uneasy.
She hurriedly hid in an empty classroom nearby, and soon a little ghost jumped out from the wall at the end. It was Peeves.
Peeves giggled, jumped up and down, did a somersault halfway, and suddenly stopped.
Peeves took in everything in front of him from a shrewd angle, and his movements came to a sudden halt, like a clockwork toy that stops stiffly after its string breaks.
His round face twitched slightly, and a pair of naughty little eyes flashed cunningly under his dark gray skin.
He seemed a little overwhelmed by the sudden silence, so he tentatively raised his head slowly, looking at Penelope, who was as stiff as a sculpture, and Myrtle who was crying beside her with a hint of confusion and curiosity.
Originally in his plan, this was just another night of pranks, but the scene before him was obviously beyond his imagination, causing his arrogant face to stiffen for a moment.
Peeves stood up quickly and swiftly, his squinting eyes moving rapidly as he observed the gloomy environment around him.
He seemed to be searching for a reasonable explanation, but his sculptural rigidity had obviously been broken by the shock of the current situation.
Peeves took a deep breath of air, although as a ghost he didn't really need to breathe.
This action symbolically expressed a moment of decision. Then, Peeves straightened his no longer light body, suddenly opened his translucent mouth, and began his alarm.
"Something happened! Something happened! Something happened again!" Peeves' scream was extremely sharp, piercing through the stiff silence of the corridor, like a knife cutting directly through the thick darkness.
His voice dragged out long notes that bounced off the stone corridors, and the echoes were full of tremors and warnings.
"No one, whether human or ghost, will be spared!" Every word he said was filled with panic and foreboding, with panic burning in his eyes. He, who once loved playing pranks, was now like a messenger, eagerly delivering warnings.
"Everybody run for your lives!" His screams echoed in the corridor, and his figure began to appear and disappear, like the last lighthouse jumping in the fog, issuing a silent cry for those unknown dangers.
The professors hurried over, their faces heavy and nervous.
Penelope lay on the stretcher, her face still frozen in fear and pain.
The long slanted shadows were cast on the ancient stone walls, swaying with their hurried footsteps, as if even the air was filled with a sense of urgency.
Their figures gradually disappeared around the corner and walked towards the school infirmary.
Salina's mood had not yet calmed down from the chaos just now, and she felt a mixture of dizziness and anxiety.
But when she turned around and raised her head slightly, her gaze slowly settled down because she saw Professor Dumbledore.
In the anxious and chaotic corridor, Professor Dumbledore's demeanor seemed unusually calm, like a quiet harbor in the center of the storm.
There was no fear in his eyes as in the previous scene. Instead, there was a gentle and kind smile on his face, like the bright North Star, guiding a lost sailboat.
Dumbledore wore his iconic robes, and it seemed that every fold contained the luster of wisdom.
Salina saw the hand he extended, which was like a protective umbrella in the dark night, and the uneasiness in her heart began to dissipate.
Dumbledore's eyes seemed to be able to see deep into one's soul. The corners of his mouth slightly parted, and his voice was calm, "Would you like to come to my office and sit down?"
Salina nodded slightly and responded to Dumbledore: "Okay, Headmaster."
Although she was still nervous about what had just happened, with Dumbledore by her side, she believed that the upcoming conversation would bring a ray of light to the fog in her heart.
