The most powerful wizard in the magic world

Chapter 209: Rumors about the Mentor

Although greed surged deep in his heart, he knew that the value of this badge could not be measured by money. It not only represented the identity of Torild, but also the symbol of the powerful mentor behind him. If he acted rashly, it would cause unnecessary trouble.

"What a pity." Gerling muttered to himself, his voice so low that it was almost inaudible. The shadows around him suddenly changed, and he looked up suddenly, seeing his friend Allen approaching slightly.

"Do you want it? I think it's a hidden treasure." Alan looked at the badge, looking eager to try. But there was a hint of caution in his voice, "But are you sure you want to touch this? I've heard a lot about Torid."

"I won't act rashly." Gerlin responded calmly, with a hint of determination on his face, "We didn't come to this town for the purpose of taking risks. The lesson from last time is still fresh in our memory."

"Of course, I remember." Allen frowned slightly, as if thinking about something, and his eyes shifted from the badge to Gerling's face, "Then what should we do with this badge? It would be too boring to just walk away."

"This requires a better strategy." Gerling slowly sat up straight, his eyes becoming more determined. "We can only observe secretly and find an opportunity to see who will come looking for it."

"Maybe we can set a trap." Alan's eyes flashed with ill intent, "lead some guys who are interested in this badge over here and observe who is interested in it."

"But if Torid's mentor finds out, we'll be screwed." Gerlin shook his head and said tentatively, "You know the temper of that mentor."

"Then we will disguise ourselves as other people. Who says we have to be in our original form?" Alan said with a hint of provocation, "I don't believe that the instructor can recognize us on the spot."

"I don't want to take this risk." Gerlin sighed, feeling even more depressed. He did not completely deny Alan's idea, but deep in his heart he had a deep respect for Thorild. Although he was not a native of this world, he had lived in this land for quite some time and had heard many rumors about Thorild and his mentor.

"You are always so cautious." Alan shook his head in disappointment. "Sometimes opportunities slip away quietly during hesitation."

"I'd rather do nothing than get involved in trouble." Gerling said seriously, "We still have a lot of things to do, more important things. Why don't we leave here first and think of a solution when we go back?"

"Do you think we can escape from this city?" Alan asked doubtfully. He looked up at the thick night sky, with a rare flash of anger on his face. "We are trapped and cannot ask for help from the outside. The scary thing is that time is running out and opportunities are disappearing faster and faster."

"That's why we have to be more careful." Gerling's voice gradually rose. "Don't attract the attention of those people. Listen to me, give up this badge."

Alan was stunned for a long time before he slowly sighed, "Okay, I believe you. But I still want to know what kind of power it is that makes you so afraid."

"I think everyday life is exciting enough." Garlin's face showed a trace of fatigue. He glanced around to make sure that no one was paying attention to them. At some point, he really wanted to reveal his true identity and be honest with Allen, but he couldn't bear the consequences of doing so.

"Let's go, let's go back first." He stood up and guided Alan to leave, but turned around and unconsciously took a closer look at the badge. A question emerged in his mind: Is this power mysterious or dangerous?

The two walked cautiously through the dark alleys, and only heard occasional whispers and noises not far away, as if they were some unknown omen. Every step they took was filled with tension, as if there were potential threats hidden in the shadows around them.

"I'll go home first and think about the next plan." When they were about to separate, Gerling stopped and looked firmly at Allen's face. "We can't delay any longer."

"I'll find some clues and keep in touch." Alan nodded, his voice becoming serious. "In this town, it's vital to know more intelligence. You have to take care of yourself."

"You too," Gellin agreed softly, secretly glad that he had a friend to go with him. However, the moment he turned around, he knew that no matter what happened next, he would not give up easily.

After the two parted, Gerling walked to his residence alone. As the night deepened, the silence around him was filled with invisible oppression. He suddenly had an ominous premonition, as if someone was following him quietly in the dark.

It was late at night and the place was particularly dark. Although he had checked and memorized every detail countless times, he felt extremely uneasy at this time. He opened a window and the night breeze that came in was slightly damp. He wanted to take a deep breath of fresh air, but he felt oppressive in his chest and couldn't breathe. He sat cross-legged at the table and began to draw up a plan without distraction, trying to sort out his thoughts.

At this moment, there was a slight sound outside the window. He immediately became alert and quietly moved closer to the window to check. Through the gap in the curtains, he saw several vague figures wandering on the street. If they were not looking for the badge, then who was it?

He observed silently, his heart tense, and tried hard to recall the story of Torild that Alan had mentioned. That family had a pivotal position in the city, and even those high-ranking officials had to be in awe of it. Gerlin's hands unconsciously stroked the table, and he felt uneasy.

At this moment, there was a light knock on the door, and his heartbeat suddenly accelerated. It must be those who were interested in the badge, and a survival instinct suddenly rose in his heart.

"Who?" He pretended to be calm and tried to keep his voice steady.

"It's me, Alan." The familiar voice made him feel relieved. After hesitating for a moment, he opened the door.

"Why are you back? I thought you went to investigate." There was a hint of doubt in Gerlin's voice.

"The situation on the street is somewhat disturbing." Allen frowned slightly, as if he was thinking about some heavy facts. "Torid's people have begun to move around nearby. They are looking for the whereabouts of the badge."
