Chapter 72 How to Prepare
Naanman was sitting at the desk, flipping through detailed accounts, her expression focused and determined, as if every stroke was a struggle with this manor that was once considered clumsy.
"Naanman, will you really succeed?" The maid Mili beside her couldn't help but ask. Her voice was full of doubts, and her eyes flashed with anxiety.
Naanman raised her head and smiled at Millie, her eyes gentle but firm, "Of course we will succeed, Millie. As long as we work hard, everything is possible. Look at these accounts, last month's harvest was better than the previous months. Even with the contempt of the nobles, we can prove our ability."
Millie didn't seem to believe it. She curled her lips and whispered, "But nobles always like to control everything. Who would be willing to believe that a maid can manage their property?"
There was a sound of hurried footsteps outside the door, and Gerlin walked in. He looked very anxious, with a frown on his face, "Naanman, do you have time? I need to talk to you."
Naanman stood up quickly and looked at Gerlin seriously, "Of course, what happened?"
Gerlin took a deep breath and held his forehead, as if thinking about how to speak. "This morning, the Earl came. He was dissatisfied with our current situation and believed that we did not deserve all the benefits."
Naanman frowned, knowing that this was another obstacle. She tried to keep her voice calm and clear. "Why is he unhappy? We are already working hard to improve productivity, and many projects have paid off."
"He said you were just an ordinary maid and couldn't understand the nobles' thoughts, let alone manage their lands." Gerlin smiled bitterly, "He even threatened to withdraw financial support."
Naanman's heart sank suddenly, but she did not show her frustration. She clenched her fists and analyzed calmly: "Then, we have to find a way to make him believe that we can do it. I will talk to the count and convince him."
"Are you sure you can do it?" Gerling asked worriedly.
Naanman's eyes sparkled, and she nodded firmly, "If I can manage the industry in an orderly manner, then can't I make him believe in my ability?"
Although Millie had some doubts, she calmed down a little when she saw Naanman's determined expression. "I will help you prepare the necessary documents and information."
"Thank you, Millie." Naanman smiled slightly, "We can't be intimidated by him. The future is in our hands."
A few hours later, Naanman put on her neatest clothes and walked out of the manor to the Earl's mansion. On the way, she noticed the surrounding scene. The crops in the fields were growing very lushly, and the villagers were working hard for their livelihood. She secretly thought in her heart that she had to fight for a better future for these people.
Arriving at the Earl's Mansion, Naanman took a deep breath, sorted out her thoughts, and knocked on the door politely. A low "Come in" came from behind the door.
She walked in and saw the old earl writing, with his desk full of unfinished documents. The earl looked up and saw Naanman's posture, frowning slightly, "You are here, Naanman. I don't know why you have to bother me."
"Count, I came here to talk to you about our industrial management." Naanman spoke neither humbly nor arrogantly, looking directly into the count's eyes.
"Industry management? How dare you, a maid, come and talk to me about this?" The count laughed mockingly, his tone full of disdain, "I've said it before, you don't understand aristocratic affairs at all."
"I'm not here to argue about status, but I want to let you know that Gerling and I are doing our best to improve our management." Naanman smiled slightly, trying to impress him with words, "We are gradually changing the things you couldn't stand. If you can give us more support, I believe we can create better results."
"Oh? That sounds nice, but I don't believe it. Do you know how fierce the market competition is in our area?" The count's eyes were still full of doubt.
"I know that the competition between nobles is very complicated, but I believe that managing a piece of land is ultimately determined by pragmatism and results." Naanman continued in a firm tone, "We have recently replanned the planting structure and introduced new technology, and the harvest of crops has greatly improved."
The Earl frowned slightly, as if he was somewhat curious about her words. "Really? So you mean that your harvest is really better than before?"
"Yes, the results can be seen from the accounts. This season's revenue is expected to increase by at least 30%." Naanman said sincerely, showing her confidence to the fullest. "If you are willing to give us another chance, I will make full use of this path and make everything better."
A trace of cautious interest gradually emerged in the earl's eyes. He pondered for a moment and asked, "If I agree to give you a chance, how do you plan to prove your ability?"
Naanman was secretly delighted and seized the opportunity to answer: "We plan to hold a complete exhibition and invite the surrounding villagers, chambers of commerce and other nobles to come and observe our achievements. In this way, everyone can see our efforts and results."
"Exhibition?" The Count seemed somewhat interested in the idea, but still had a skeptical tone. "It's easier said than done. Do you think other nobles would be willing to come to an 'ordinary' manor like yours?"
"As long as you are willing, I believe the other nobles will give you face." Naanman smiled slightly, "I am willing to make extra efforts for this exhibition to ensure that everything goes smoothly."
The count was silent for a while, and the expression on his face began to relax. "Okay, I'm willing to try. Just take action, and I'll send people to participate."
"Thank you, Count!" Naanman said excitedly, and the tension in her heart was slowly released along with hope. She knew that this would be a great opportunity for her to demonstrate her abilities.
After returning to the manor, Naanman immediately convened an emergency meeting, calling all employees and Gerling. Everyone gathered together, full of expectation and tension.
"Everyone, I just talked to the count, and he agreed to support us in holding an exhibition." Naanman said with a smile, and the whole room cheered instantly.
"That's great, Naanman, you're awesome!" Millie said happily.
Gerlin also smiled for the first time in a long time. "I knew you could do it! How should we prepare next?"
Naanman felt everyone's enthusiasm and said seriously: "This exhibition is not only for increasing profits, but also for our dignity. We want to show everyone all our efforts and prove that we can do it."
