Traveling Through the Grave Robbers' Chronicles: Starting from Meeting You
Chapter 40 We are robbing a tomb, not committing suicide for love, right?
The next morning, when it was just getting light, Zhang Qiling woke up early and started packing his bags. He looked at Zhang Hanyan who was sleeping soundly, and moved deliberately quietly so as not to wake her up.
There was no systematic wake-up service today, so Zhang Hanyan did not get up on time like she usually did during training.
Zhang Haike opened his sleepy eyes and saw Zhang Qiling packing his bags and putting out the fire which had not yet gone out.
"You woke up so early?"
His loud and undisguised voice immediately woke up Zhang Hanyan. She opened her eyes, looked at the sky, and hurriedly got up.
"Brother, have you packed everything? Why don't you ask me to pack with you?"
Zhang Qiling tied up his bag and stood up with it, "It's okay, I've packed it."
Zhang Haike looked at the only open bag lying flat on the ground, walked over in two steps, packed it up and put it on his back.
"I'm done packing too, let's go!"
Zhang Hanyan took her bag from Zhang Qiling and followed Zhang Haike forward and backward with him.
For more than half a year thereafter, they wandered around Jiangsu and Zhejiang for a long time and fell into many traps.
But these buckets are so barren that it is speechless, and the things inside are not worth showing off.
Then, they went to Jiangsu area and found several relatively large buckets in Xuzhou. After entering, they found that they had been completely looted and nothing was left.
The broken tiles in the tomb cannot be handed back as keepsakes.
The three of them traveled across most of China and had almost spent all the money they had with them, to the point where they had to beg for a living.
"What should we do next? We don't have much time left. If we can't find anything valuable to take back, we will fail the exam and be embarrassed."
Zhang Haike sat on the ground in frustration. He looked at the blue sky, like a deflated ball. He no longer had the high spirits he had when he first started.
Zhang Qiling looked towards the direction where the sun was setting and said softly, "Let's go to the west and have a look."
To the west is the old-school ancient tomb site. If they go to the west, they might be able to pick up some fish that have escaped the net.
"Okay! Then let's go west!"
Zhang Haike slapped his thigh, exuding a feeling of desperate risk.
Zhang Hanyan looked at the gradually sinking sun. The setting sun coated the mountains with a layer of gold, and the beautiful bright yellow glow dyed the sky red.
In the blowing evening breeze, the sun completely disappeared from the sky, night officially fell, and countless shining stars dotted the dark blue sky, illuminating the earth.
"Brother...why aren't you asleep yet? What are you thinking about?"
Zhang Hanyan looked at Zhang Qiling, who was leaning against a tree trunk and looking up at the stars, and tiptoed over to sit beside him.
Zhang Qiling gazed at the starry sky, wondering whether he should tell her his final destination.
He turned to look at Zhang Haike who had fallen asleep, and decided to tell her his ultimate goal.
"Han Yan...I will go to the ancient city of Sizhou...I will find the bronze bell and bring it back to the Zhang family."
He looked at her steadily, and did not detect the slightest sign of shock on her face.
From the moment she heard his words, she was very calm, as if she had known his decision for a long time.
"Han Yan, you..."
"I'll go with you!"
Zhang Hanyan interrupted him and expressed her own thoughts.
The determined look on her face told Zhang Qiling that no matter what he wanted to say next, it would not change her decision.
Zhang Qiling stood there in a daze, silent for a long while, and finally nodded heavily.
"Okay, let's go together!"
The next morning, the three of them got up early and headed west. On the way, they met three children from the Zhang family who were also out roaming.
"The west? You don't need to go! Tomb robbers are rampant in the west. Those ancient tombs have been robbed hundreds of times. They are like a hornet's nest. There are no valuable treasures left!"
When Zhang Haike heard this, his originally happy smile instantly turned gloomy, and his eyes revealed a hint of confusion and helplessness.
"So what should we do now? We don't have much time left to spend on the journey to find the tomb. If we don't return within the stipulated time, it will be considered a failure in our release."
Zhang Qiling and Zhang Hanyan looked at each other, and with just one glance, they knew what the other was thinking.
He walked up to Zhang Haike and stood in front of him, looking down at Zhang Haike who was sitting on the ground with his head down.
"I know a place with a big curtain, but... it's quite dangerous. If you want to get something out of it, you need some luck."
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Haike and the other three children of the Zhang family immediately understood where the place he was talking about was.
There is no need to look for that tomb; it is right there in plain sight, but no one can steal it.
The tomb was located in a village called Ma'an Village. Among the village chiefs was a local rich man whose ancestral tomb was on the back mountain of the village.
Ma'an Village has been in this village for thirty-six generations. If the back mountain has always been the ancestral tomb, according to the funeral customs since ancient times, there should be a very large tomb group in the back mountain.
Zhang Haike and the other three children looked at each other and made up their minds to do it!
It's better to take a risk than to return with nothing and be embarrassed.
After everyone made the decision, they rushed to Ma'an Village as quickly as possible. Several people ran to the vicinity of the village, pretending to be children playing, to spy on the enemy's situation.
After they finished their investigation, they unanimously decided to wait until night time, divide the work and cooperate to dig a hole in a hidden place.
It took them about three weeks to dig through the tunnel and they successfully reached the bluestone bricks on the top of the tomb.
"We have finally reached the bottom. Next we need to send one person down to observe. This will save a lot of time."
Zhang Haike looked at the hole made by the person in front. The hole was too small. Except for the thin Zhang Hanyan and Zhang Qiling, none of them could get in.
Zhang Qiling understood what he meant, decisively took the hemp rope in his hand, tied it around his waist, and jumped down from the cave.
"Bro!"
As soon as Zhang Hanyan walked into the tomb passage, she saw him leap forward.
She was worried that he might encounter danger if he went down alone, so she picked up the rope on the ground, tied it around her waist, and put the other end into Zhang Haike's hand.
"Get it!"
After she finished speaking, before Zhang Haike could react, she jumped out of the cave.
"We are robbing graves, not committing suicide for love, right?"
Zhang Haike asked in a low voice, but no one from the other three responded to him. They had not yet recovered from what they had just seen.
