Chapter 345: The prelude to the storm

As the night fell and the stars twinkled, Bennett and Mika were sitting around a worn oak table in an ancient library far away from the hustle and bustle. The dim candlelight danced on their faces, casting long shadows. Bennett stared intently at a yellowed parchment scroll, while Mika kept flipping through a thick magic book beside him, looking for a long-lost secret.

"Look here, Bennett!" Mika suddenly shouted excitedly, pointing his finger at a complex rune pattern. "I've seen this symbol in another ancient book. It represents the 'Hidden Path'."

Bennett raised his head, a gleam in his eyes. "Hidden path? This may be the clue to the legendary lost city!" His voice was filled with irrepressible excitement.

The two smiled at each other, as if they had seen the glorious sight of the mysterious city. However, they did not know that their every move was being monitored by a pair of hidden eyes.

At this moment, a slight noise broke the silence of the library. Bennett stood up alertly, the candle in his hand flickered, casting an uncertain shadow. "Someone is coming." He whispered.

Mika quickly hid the book, and the two hid in the shadows. The door slowly opened, and a mysterious figure in a black robe walked in. His face was covered with a veil, revealing only two sharp eyes.

"Welcome to the temple of knowledge, stranger." Bennett walked out from the darkness, trying to hide his nervousness. "What are you looking for?"

The man in black robe did not answer, but just looked around quietly, as if looking for something. After a moment, he said softly: "I came to find you."

Bennett and Mika looked at each other, and an ominous premonition rose in their hearts. But at this moment, the black-robed man suddenly moved, and a black light shot out from his hand, heading straight for Bennett.

The battle was about to break out. Bennett reacted instinctively, waving his staff and summoning a shield. The light collided with the shield, making a deafening roar. The bookshelves in the library were shaking and dust was flying.

"Run!" Bennett yelled, pulling Mika toward the door. Their footsteps echoed on the ancient stone road, and the man in black robes followed closely behind, unwilling to let go easily.

After passing through the winding alleys, the two came to the square in the city center. Crowds gathered here to hold the annual festival. Bennett and Mika blended into the crowd, hoping to get rid of the pursuer.

However, the black-robed man did not seem to be ready to give up. He gathered a stronger dark energy in his palm, ready to release a large-scale spell. The whole square was enveloped by this power, and people began to panic.

At this critical moment, Bennett took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began to chant an ancient spell. A halo formed around his body, enveloping him and Mika. The dark energy hit the halo, but could not penetrate it.

Finally, the black-robed men were forced to retreat, leaving behind a mess and a terrified crowd. Although Bennett and Mika were safe, they knew that this adventure had just begun. It was late at night, and the cold wind blew through the empty streets. Bennett walked alone under the dim street lights. He came to a seemingly ordinary hut and knocked gently on the door. The door slowly opened, and an old woman with a wrinkled face appeared at the door, her eyes revealing a deep wisdom.

"I know why you are here, young explorer." The old woman's voice was deep and powerful. "I have been waiting for you for a long time."

Meanwhile, Mika makes a new discovery in the library's underground chamber. She finds a map of a lost city in an old atlas. However, when she prepares to leave, she finds that the exit is blocked by a powerful magical seal.

Bennett learned from the old woman about the existence of a secret organization that was dedicated to fighting against the dark forces and protecting the balance of the world. The old woman told him that only by passing a series of trials could he gain the support of the organization. Bennett accepted the challenge without hesitation.

As they walked down step by step, the stone platform above slowly rose up again, closing the entrance. Now they could only move forward, with no way to retreat.

At the end of the stairs was a huge dome space shining with light, in the center of which stood a magnificent city model made of pure crystal. This was the lost city they were looking for - the pinnacle of an ancient civilization.

Bennett and Mika approached the city model and felt a strong energy fluctuation. They knew that they had found a historical treasure, and all this experience would become the most precious chapter in their adventure story.
