The markets in rural areas in the north are open-air. Walking east from Liangzhuang where Qiqi lives, a wide dirt road is ten miles away to Yanjia Village.

Yanjia Village is the largest village among the dozen or so villages around it, with more than a thousand households. The north-south street at the intersection is where the market is held. The market opens on the 25th, 26th and 27th of the ten days, and the other six days are closed.

Because it was May 1978, everyone had not yet split up to work on their own, and the old farmers were not yet bold in doing business.

The people squatting on the roadside were just some country folks selling vegetables and chickens. The busiest place was the big stage at the southwest corner of the intersection, where operas and movies were shown.

Qiqi walked there alone.

When Qiqi arrived at the market, the morning market was very lively.

Farmers in groups of three or four were browsing and bargaining at various stalls. Most of the peasant women were holding young children or dragging their older children. They went to the market not to buy anything, but just to see the excitement. When they were tired of shopping, they would sit at a small stall under a tree with their children, eat a bowl of cold noodles, and buy some cakes for the children, and both adults and children would be happy.

Qiqi walked from one stall to another, looking through the products carefully.

In addition to selling a variety of vegetables and fruits produced by farmers, they also sell chickens, ducks and dog breeds.

She doesn't want to buy any of these things.

After walking around for a while, Qiqi stopped in front of a stall selling baskets.

"My daughter, all the baskets in my house are woven by my old man. He has decades of experience in this craft. Look, they are strong and beautiful."

When the old lady who was watching the stall saw that there was business, she hurriedly pulled Qiqi and showed her the various baskets.

Qiqi thought that her elder brother Liangshan knew how to weave things, and if this business was good, she would go back and cut brambles with her brother and father, and weave baskets to sell.

"Girl, which one do you like?"

"I'll take a look."

Qiqi only had that little money in her pocket, so she was reluctant to spend it.

She decided not to buy anything. She had been squatting in front of the old lady’s stall for too long. She felt embarrassed to continue looking at it, so she had to leave.

Qiqi was just about to put down the small flower basket in her hand reluctantly.

"I want this. I'll give you the money. Don't worry about the change."

A deep voice suddenly sounded behind her.

Qiqi turned his head,

He is handsome, with a frown on his face, and is wearing a national defense green "Dacron" summer suit.

(In the 1970s and 1980s, Dacron clothes were the most popular in summer because they kept people cool.)

"Why are you here?"

Qiqi asked in surprise, how did Yan Chenbei know she was here?

"This is Yanjia Village."

Yan Chenbei looked at the confused girl.

The market of Yanjia Village is not that big, and she is Yan Chenbei's newly engaged young wife. Of course there are people in the market who know her and have been talking about her for a long time.

Isn't it easy for him to find her?

"follow me."

Yan Chenbei turned around and walked forward.

Qiqi could only follow behind.

There were so many people at the market, talking and laughing, they were really eye-catching.

Yan Chenbei led Qiqi to the back of the village.

There is a jujube forest next to the small ditch behind the village.

The jujube trees are crowded together. They are as thick as a bowl and are full of fresh jujube flowers. Clusters of light yellow jujube flowers are lightly embedded in the lush dark green leaves. When the breeze blows, the jujube leaves rustle and the flowers fall...

"Why are you so obedient? I asked you to come and you followed me?"

Yan Chenbei looked at his young wife jokingly.

"I like you!"

Yan Chenbei originally wanted to tease his young wife, but he didn't expect that his young wife was so bold and actually said that she liked him.
