Mysteries: Arcana Wars

Chapter 12 Decision

The telephone rang, the cell phone rang, the voice call rang, all the communications rang at the same time, and the noisy and harsh syllables filled the entire small apartment.

Ding-ling-ling! Ding-ling-ling! Ding-ling-ling!

But Klein just sat in front of the computer in silence and didn't answer any of the calls.

The index finger was lightly raised, dipped in the bright moonlight and slowly tapped the table. Tap, tap, the small crisp sound was drowned out by the whistling.

After a long while, Klein made a decision.

I pressed enter, and the ringing in the entire room suddenly fell silent.

“Klein Moretti!!”

A middle-aged man's angry roar exploded from the headphones.

"Where's your test report? It's the last round! You're the only one missing! Tomorrow, tomorrow! We'll deliver it online tomorrow!"

It was Klein's boss, Mr. Aiden Norman F. Pierce.

"Half an hour! You were out of contact for a full half an hour! At this critical moment, you suddenly disappeared for half an hour!"

The man on the other end of the phone pounded on the wall anxiously.

"If you don't answer the phone, I'm going to call emergency services!"

To be honest, Klein quite likes his boss, Team Leader Aiden. Although Team Leader Aiden always likes to yell in the office, clattering around everyone's workstations with his old leather shoes, emphasizing some node deadlines, in fact, Team Leader Aiden is not a good-for-nothing who only knows how to yell. On the contrary, he is a senior predecessor that Klein respects. Team Leader Aiden's shiny back of the head is proof of his superb skills. During his constant inspections of the office, all kinds of difficult and complicated problems that everyone encountered were cleverly solved with his yelling. Whether it was a program error or a life difficulty, Team Leader Aiden was always a reliable predecessor for his subordinates.

"Sorry, team leader, I'll send the report here right away."

Klein expressed his apologies over the phone and submitted his report to the working group.

Rupert's Heart Beta10.5.6.01 test report 1:20-Klein.zip has been uploaded.

"Okay, I saw it. And Klein—"

"Team Leader Aiden!!"

"What the hell!"

The desperate cries of colleagues were heard over the voice chat. Team leader Aiden rushed over before he even hung up the phone. Suddenly, the channel was in chaos, with the sounds of keyboards, mice, shouts, prayers, chattering, and crackling.

"R&D team, get moving! Don't think I don't know. The previous version of the test report has been integrated and sent to you! Mr. Kerridge Andu, I have corrected your stupid questions here. Hurry and finish this cup of coffee and continue!"

"Right away! Gabi is uploading it!"

"Not fixed yet? If it doesn't fix it, I'll go and settle accounts with the people at the company's Internet service provider. I provided you with the fastest service for this project. My elites, you can't afford to offend this client! You can never imagine how powerful the other party is. I beg you to hurry up. If something goes wrong, we can't bear the consequences!"

"Then let me help you - Steam! Please speed up the internet for us!"

"Don't worry, boss. We've already completed so many projects. Based on our past experience, we'll definitely be able to finish the project in time. Unless there's a cyber ghost called Wau that eats up our code!"

"Damn it! Stop talking Enid! Our group's transmission is stuck!"

Klein sat in front of his computer, listening to his colleagues on the work channel trying to have fun despite the deadline, and he couldn't help but laugh out loud.

All this happened so fast, just like the ups and downs of life. A few hours ago, he was still working overtime for work, so busy that he was worried that Aiden, the person in charge, would knock on his window, but now he felt that Aiden's anxious jumping up and down for everyone and the project was really kind, as if the middle-aged man with a pouting beard was yelling in front of him.

Except for Klein, everyone else in this project team is an expert with outstanding abilities and rich experience. Under the leadership of Boss Aiden, they have completed many wonderful projects. As a new programmer in the past few years, Klein has learned a lot of valuable experience here and spent an unforgettable time.

But Klein had made his decision.

Unexpectedly, at this moment, Boss Aiden sent a private message.

"Turn off the public screen microphone. I want to tell you something."

"Don't pretend you didn't see it! It's urgent!"

How could he take time out of his busy schedule to chat with me privately? How important is this?

Boss Aiden's behavior was a little unusual, but Klein still connected to Boss Aiden's private chat channel after divination.

"Klein, Klein! Are you okay?"

Aiden lowered his voice and called out to Klein anxiously, which was unusual for him. The noise in the office just now became distant, and even sounded a little echoing in the quiet surroundings.

He was secretly on the phone.

"Listen, Klein. I'm only telling you these things. Don't tell anyone else. Be careful. I'll tell you everything that's going to happen next. Don't ask questions. I don't know anything. Don't interrupt me."

There was a sound of wind and noise coming from the phone, and it sounded like Team Leader Aiden was looking around.

"I told you that Rupert's Heart is a confidential project. Our client this time has a very terrifying power. Not to mention our project team, even our entire company can't afford to offend him!"

"They are very anxious. They even told me that in order to ensure the smooth delivery of the project, they even sent mercenaries to protect us today!"

"The point is, they really did it! There are several guys standing outside our office who look tough! They even didn't let go of you guys who were working from home, and they already sent you some damn bodyguards!"

"Klein, I know that you have always trusted my judgment as the team leader. I don't think our clients would kill small fry like us to silence us. So the question is, what are they guarding against?"

Team Leader Aiden's nervous breathing suddenly stopped, and a strange and deep voice suddenly sounded.

"Mr. Pierce, are you done?"

"Ahaha, I'm so sorry. You know, I haven't had a good sleep for a few weeks, so I'm a little constipated, haha." Aiden's greasy, flattering and cautious laughter came from the phone, "Mr. Hanmang, please wait a moment."

"Mr. Pierce, please hurry up and don't make our work more difficult." The "cold light" sounded impatient. "You should know that our mission is to ensure your personal safety before you deliver the work, not to get you toilet paper in front of the toilet door!"

"Hey, I know, I know. It's really troublesome. Thank you for your hard work. It will only take a moment, just a little while."

The strange gap appeared on the phone again. Klein could only hear Boss Aiden's heavy and trembling breathing. A moment later, Aiden's hurried words sounded again.

"Klein, you heard it, right? Those are the mercenaries they hired. I just heard them say that the bodyguards they sent to you have lost contact! Steam, what on earth are these bodyguards protecting?"

"Damn it, these people always appear and disappear suddenly, never telling us anything and not allowing us to ask, but they seem to know everything about our farts. I even doubt whether they really have the legendary magic..."

Aiden suddenly stopped talking, and an unprecedented shudder crept into his heart.

“…Klein, you are still Klein, right…”

Bang bang bang bang!

Before Klein could respond, a series of fierce knocking sounds exploded on the phone!

"Aiden Norman F. Pierce! Please get back to your work right now!"

With a series of loud bangs and crackles, Team Leader Aiden hung up the phone.

A moment later, Team Leader Aiden's usual roar was heard on the public screen, and Klein finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Who is this mysterious Party A? His divination did not give a clear answer, only some fragmentary images, mostly some complicated dresses and high-tech glass buildings. Unfortunately, he lacked understanding of this era for more than a thousand years, so Klein could not figure out who these clothes and buildings were referring to.

Judging from the fight just now, the mysterious party A's worries were justified. This unlucky test engineer was really attacked by a killer, and he had never even seen that unlucky mercenary bodyguard.

From another perspective, sending out a Sequence 7 assassin just to target an ordinary person is really too much of a luxury! You are simply using a butcher knife to slap a mosquito!

But things have come to this point. The mercenary bodyguard has lost contact, the killer has lost contact, but the unlucky programmer has survived. If someone investigates this matter further, it will definitely cause great trouble to themselves, and even to Team Leader Aiden and the entire project team.

The most important thing is that you have made your decision.

After submitting his last job, Klein stared at Aiden's small window in silence for a long time, and finally made up his mind and hit the enter key.

Resignation letter.doc has been sent.

His fingers were as heavy as iron knives.

[Test] Klein has launched a group chat for the [Heart of Rupert] project team. Go, go, go.

He stared at the empty computer desktop in a daze. The high-color gamut monitor vividly displayed fake beautiful natural scenery.

After a long moment, Klein closed his eyes and raised his hand, bidding his final farewell to this brief fate.

I wish that this programming project will be bug-free.

With a snap of fingers and a farewell gift, programmer Klein Moretti's life came to an end.

The story of Merlin Hermes, a miracle magician who does not belong to this era, will begin tomorrow.

But before that, Klein thought, he should get a good night's sleep.

"Good night."

Anxious Aiden, hurried colleagues, brother and sister who don't know where they are, and Leonard who doesn't need to sleep.

And the confused self.

Klein wrapped himself in the quilt and closed his eyes.

"Oh, mysterious. Is your expectation a wish or a curse?"

The colorful silk threads spontaneously entwine into complex patterns and knots in the void.

"The wonderful play you have written for yourself is about to begin."
