Mysteries: Arcana Wars

Chapter 34 Rescue

As the ground shook, Emlyn rolled and crawled to avoid the broken floor and flying debris. Everything happened too suddenly, and he was completely unprepared.

His legs were weak and his whole body was shaking. The etched pistol in his hand burned his palms. The lead bullets and water jugs were too heavy for an overworked doctor and almost crushed him.

But...I...I'm a doctor!

...I want to survive!

Emlyn screamed and ran with his gun to give himself courage, then turned around and fired at the broken floor with his eyes closed.

“Praise the Mother Earth ahhhhhh!!”

The guide bullet flashed with fire and rushed towards the gap. The ancient magic circle was activated instantly, and the whole building seemed to come alive. Lush vines swarmed out from the surrounding hideous gaps, growing rapidly in pursuit of the bullets, building a passage of life for the stranded people.

"Quick! Retreat!"

Emlyn screamed hysterically and ran wildly in the shaking corridor, spraying the hospital's special disinfectant on the patients coming and going, regardless of their condition and just throwing it at them.

Live! Live!

It doesn’t matter whether the disease is cured or not, but if the patient fails to survive today, there is absolutely no hope!

The strong and pungent smell of disinfectant made Emlyn retch as he ran, but there were not many spray cans left.

Emlyn ran up the stairs and replaced the last box of lead bullets. Emlyn, who had never received military training, could not stand the recoil of this large-caliber pistol. His wrist was trembling violently with pain and swelling. It took him several attempts to successfully insert the gun.

"Brain Department Clinic! The director is injured! Requesting nearby support!"

The news in the headset startled Emlyn so much that he missed a step and fell down the stairs.

It's okay, Emlyn. Look at how dignified that skinny old man was when he left. Nothing serious will happen...

Emlyn, with a bruised face and nose, smashed open the deformed door of the Dermatology Department, stared and shouted, and shot at the collapsed wall.

"Follow the vines! Quickly—"

Before he finished speaking, the nearby tea room suddenly exploded, and the huge shock wave slammed Emlyn against the wall.

The men's screams and the women's cries, the noisy sounds were everywhere in Emlyn's chaotic consciousness.

Also, there is...

His vision was blurry, the blood from his head blurred his eyes and smeared on the wall. Only Emlyn's blood was quickly absorbed by the living wall, and a green bud grew in its place.

Emlyn didn't care about these changes at all, or rather, he didn't have time to think about why all this happened. He raised his pistol tremblingly and fired with blurred vision.

But he didn't notice that the magazine was empty.

So Emlyn gritted his teeth and pulled the trigger. Immediately afterwards, the intricate and exquisite patterns on the pistol immediately glowed with dazzling light, and a green light bullet shot out from the muzzle. More thick vines grew out of the broken building, roughly repairing themselves following the guidance of the bullets.

Emlyn only felt that the bullet that appeared out of thin air had drained away his incredible strength, but it didn't matter. It was effective and could save lives, and that was enough.

That's it!

Emlyn staggered along the collapsed corridor, beginning his final round of shooting and evacuation.

No matter what this gun took away from my body, be it strength, blood, or even lifespan and luck...it doesn't matter, just take it all!

A fearless spirit of giving up everything rose up in Emlyn's heart, and he lifted his limp feet to sell to the nurse who was stuck in the corner by the machine.

The last one, the last one!

Just as Emlyn was about to grab the little nurse's hand, a muffled bang completely blew up the entire base of the wall!

Emlyn, with nothing under his feet, used his last bit of strength to push the little nurse onto the remaining platform, but he himself was thrown out heavily by the blast!

Emlyn thought he would hit the floor below, but after a moment of trance, Emlyn found that he was falling.

The flickering corridor lights of the hospital disappeared from Emlyn's sight, while the ancient church dome appeared before Emlyn's eyes, and the chandelier of the museum seemed within reach.

It turned out that I had reached the junction of the hospital and the museum...

Everything around him slowed down before Emlyn's eyes.

The terrible explosion blew through the giant wall from the hospital all the way to the museum. The scorching flames lit up everywhere on the giant wall, like blooming red flowers, and the slowly spreading dust was like a huge ball of cotton stuck to the wall and floor. The scattered rubble and broken floor surrounded Emlyn and fell together.

Emlyn couldn't remember how old he was when he last came to the Harvest Church Museum, it seemed to be when he was a teenager. He had received quite a few flyers, but he never had the courage to carve out some time in his life to come to this museum and do nothing.

When I left, I certainly didn't expect that I would come back to this museum in this way.

The people who had just evacuated in front of Emlyn appeared in Emlyn's mind again like a revolving lantern.

Those who ran away may recover soon, or their lives may fall into a terrible haze. I am just a small doctor and can do nothing to relieve the suffering of the patients after they say goodbye.

But today, in this disaster, at this moment, I pushed them out and let them continue to face the uncertain future of their lives.

I...at least today... saved them, right?

The antique treasures flying all over the sky were like scattered stardust, refracting the flashes of the explosion and the light of the lamps. The escaping light made the suffocating dust emit a psychedelic light.

As the light and shadows flickered, Emlyn saw a hazy figure above him, falling down with him along with the chaotic debris.

He subconsciously reached out to the figure and was about to shout, but found that it was not a fallen patient, but just a doll, an antique doll that he had seen on a flyer. It seemed to be a rare thing preserved from the Fifth Epoch and was very precious.

Emlyn laughed at himself. If he had made a wish to the magician at that time, any wish, would everything be different now?

But there is no if.

"...Mother Goddess is above..."

Looking at the puppet's clear and delicate glass eyes, Emlyn reached out, wanting to hold the puppet in his arms at the end of the fall.

I seem to have mustered up the courage to save a lot of people today...

So, in the end, can I try to save you?

The moment he hugged the doll, Emlyn's thoughts suddenly stopped.

The heavy memories are like new buds in early spring breaking through the soil, and the millennium of time is like a flood pouring down. The forgotten lofty words and the obscured firm beliefs all surge in with the breaking of the shackles, carrying with them the vicissitudes of a thousand years.

A tarot card slowly fell in the air, flipped from reversed to upright in Emlyn's sight, and then quickly disintegrated.

The intricate etchings on the pistol suddenly shone with a dazzling green light, and surging spirituality poured into the magazine. Emlyn fired upwards without hesitation, and the bullet condensed from the spirituality rushed out of the barrel, guiding the green vine to rise up and steadily catch Emlyn and his puppet.

[Moon], return!
