Chapter 11 In Danger

When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying on a hospital bed. The smell of disinfectant filled my nose, making my already dizzy mind even more unclear. I tried to sit up, but found that I was weak all over.

"Luo Xue, you're awake!" Zhong Yuxuan's familiar voice came to his ears, with a hint of fatigue and worry that could not be concealed.

I turned to look at him. His face looked terrible, his eyes were bloodshot, and there was a blue stubble on his chin. It was obvious that he hadn't slept all night. I opened my mouth and wanted to ask him what happened, but then I remembered the letter I saw before I fainted, and my heart suddenly rose to my throat.

"Who sent that letter?" I grabbed his sleeve, asking anxiously.

Zhong Yuxuan avoided my gaze. He gently put my hand back into the quilt and said in a low voice, "Don't worry, I'm already checking."

His eyes flickered, and he was obviously hiding something. I bit my lower lip and didn't ask any more questions. I knew that there were some things he didn't want to talk about, and I couldn't get any information out of him even if I asked.

At this moment, the door of the ward was pushed open, and Qin Xue walked in with a thermos bucket. Seeing me wake up, she showed a look of surprise on her face: "Luo Xue, you finally woke up! I was so worried!"

She put down the thermos, walked quickly to the bed, and looked at me carefully, as if to confirm whether I was really okay.

"How do you feel? Are you still feeling uncomfortable?" Qin Xue asked with concern.

I shook my head to indicate that I was fine.

"That's good, that's good." Qin Xue breathed a sigh of relief, "The doctor said you're just too tired. You'll be fine after a rest."

I know she is deliberately avoiding what happened before, but I didn't expose her. There are some things that I am not mentally prepared to face yet.

Qin Xue opened the thermos bucket, filled a bowl of porridge and handed it to me: "Come, have some porridge. You haven't eaten for a day."

I took the bowl of porridge, but I had no appetite. The photo and the letter kept replaying in my mind, and I was filled with anxiety and fear.

"Luo Xue, don't worry, I've found some clues." Qin Xue seemed to see through my thoughts and said in a low voice, "I checked the photo. It was taken in a very remote place. There..."

Before she could finish her words, she was interrupted by Zhong Yuxuan: "Qin Xue!"

Qin Xue glanced at him and hesitated to speak.

"Luo Xue needs to rest now. Let's talk about it after she gets better." Zhong Yuxuan's tone did not allow for argument.

Qin Xue opened her mouth but said nothing in the end. She just packed up the thermos silently.

I know that Zhong Yuxuan doesn't want me to worry, but the more he hides things from me, the more scared I become. I have a hunch that my life experience is like a huge mystery. Once solved, it will bring about earth-shaking changes to me, and even... danger!

The ward was silent. After Qin Xue left, the heavy air made me breathless. Zhong Yuxuan sat by the bed, holding my hand, his eyes were complicated and hard to read. I knew he had a lot to say, but he didn't know where to start.

"Are you going to go find them?" I looked him straight in the eyes and said firmly.

Zhong Yuxuan's body froze visibly. He was silent for a moment, but finally nodded: "Yes."

"I'll go with you." I struggled to get up, but Zhong Yuxuan held my shoulders.

"No, it's too dangerous." His tone brooked no room for argument. "Stay here and wait for me to come back."

"But..." I wanted to say something else, but was interrupted by Zhong Yuxuan.

"No buts." A trace of determination flashed in his deep eyes, "I must find out the truth about this matter and protect you."

His eyes were too firm, I could not refute, I could only watch him leave. I knew that he would face unknown dangers, but I believed in him, he would definitely return safely.

After Zhong Yuxuan left, I could no longer calm down. I tossed and turned, but I couldn't fall asleep. The photo, the dark room, and the shocking handwriting on the letter kept replaying in my mind. I had a premonition that my life experience was like a time bomb. Once it exploded, it would bring irreversible consequences.

I waited anxiously, but there was still no news from Zhong Yuxuan as time passed. My heart became heavier and heavier, and an ominous premonition came to my mind.

Finally, after a long wait, I received a call from Zhong Yuxuan.

"Hello, Yuxuan, where are you?" My voice trembled slightly because of nervousness.

"I'm fine." Zhong Yuxuan's low voice came from the other end of the phone, with a hint of fatigue, "I have found them."

"I'm glad you're okay." I breathed a sigh of relief. "Where are you? I'll come find you."

"No, I'm in a very safe place now." Zhong Yuxuan's voice sounded a little strange, as if he deliberately lowered his voice, "Don't worry, I'll go back after I finish dealing with things here."

"But..." I wanted to say something else, but a busy tone came from the other end of the phone.

I held the phone, feeling uneasy. Zhong Yuxuan's words revealed a deliberate concealment. Is the safe place he mentioned really safe?

I had a strong premonition that Zhong Yuxuan was facing great danger alone, and I was powerless and could only suffer in endless waiting and worry.

The phone slipped from my palm, and the light from the screen reflected my anxious face. Zhong Yuxuan's abnormal behavior and the deliberately low voice on the other end of the phone were like sharp thorns, piercing my heart. I couldn't just sit there and wait for death, I had to find him!

I resisted the discomfort and stumbled out of the ward. There was only one thought in my mind: find Zhong Yuxuan and ensure his safety.

I called Qin Xue, she is my only hope now. "Qin Xue, I need your help, I must find Zhong Yuxuan!"

Qin Xue on the other end of the phone was obviously startled by my flustered voice, but she quickly calmed down and asked me what happened. I briefly told her about Zhong Yuxuan's abnormality and my guess.

"Don't worry, I'll come and pick you up right away." Qin Xue said decisively.

With the help of Qin Xue, we began to track down Zhong Yuxuan's whereabouts. Through the clues left by Zhong Yuxuan, we finally locked onto a remote abandoned factory.

"It's right here." Qin Xue pointed at the gloomy and dilapidated building in front of her, frowning.

I took a deep breath, opened the car door and walked in. A rotten smell mixed with the pungent smell of chemicals hit me in the face, making me sick.

The interior of the factory was empty and cold, with all kinds of debris scattered on the ground, and the mottled marks on the walls seemed to silently tell of the crimes that had happened here.

Qin Xue and I searched carefully, fearing to miss any clues. Suddenly, I found a mobile phone in the corner, which belonged to Zhong Yuxuan!

I picked up the phone with trembling hands. There was a photo still on the screen. The photo showed a dim room filled with various instruments. Several people in white coats were busy working. They all had masks on their faces, so their faces could not be seen clearly.

My heart sank suddenly, and an ominous premonition came over me. What on earth did this factory and these people have to do with what Zhong Yuxuan was investigating?

Just as we were about to leave, a burst of hurried footsteps came from deep inside the factory. I immediately signaled Qin Xue to hide, and I hid behind a pile of debris, holding my breath.

A tall figure appeared in my sight. He was wearing a black hat with the brim pulled down so low that I couldn't see his face clearly, but the fierce aura he exuded made me shudder.

He looked around vigilantly, as if looking for something.

"Come out, I know you are here." His voice was low and hoarse, as if it came from the depths of hell, making people feel creepy.

I held the phone tightly in my hand, my heartbeat quickened, cold sweat trickled down my forehead. Who was he?

I held my breath, my heart was beating wildly in my chest, almost jumping out of my throat. He walked towards me slowly, and every step seemed to step on my heart, making me almost suffocate. I tightly grasped the phone, my palms were full of cold sweat, and my fingertips were cold.

“Don’t hide. I know you heard us talking on the phone.” His voice came closer, with a hint of teasing, as if he was enjoying my fear like a cat playing with a mouse.

I had no choice but to walk out from behind the pile of junk. Facing this mysterious man, I forced myself to calm down. "What do you want to do? What is your relationship with Zhong Yuxuan?"

He smiled contemptuously, didn't answer my question, just stared at me coldly. "You care about him?"

"This has nothing to do with you!" I glared back at him without showing any weakness.

"Heh," he sneered, "You'll soon find out whether it has anything to do with me."

At this moment, I heard a sound of fighting from deep inside the factory. I was startled. Could it be...

"It looks like someone is trying to ruin my plan," he whispered, with a hint of ruthlessness in his tone, "But don't worry, I'll be back soon to deal with you."

After saying that, he turned and walked towards the direction where the fighting sound came from. I watched him leave, anxious, with only one thought in my mind: Zhong Yuxuan!

I stumbled all the way to where the fighting sound came from, my heart pounding. Finally, in an empty factory, I saw that familiar figure.

Zhong Yuxuan!

He was being besieged by several people. Although he was outnumbered, he still fought hard, with fierce moves and a fierce determination to save his life. He had several scars on his body and his clothes were stained with blood, but he seemed to feel no pain and continued to fight tenaciously.

"Zhong Yuxuan!" I couldn't help but shout out, and tears instantly blurred my eyes.

He paused slightly when he heard my voice. At this moment, a man in black took the opportunity to attack him from behind and kicked him hard on the back. Zhong Yuxuan groaned, knelt on one knee, and a trace of blood flowed from the corner of his mouth.

"No!" I screamed heartbreakingly and wanted to rush over, but Qin Xue held me back tightly.

"Calm down! If you go over there now, he will only be distracted!" Qin Xue said loudly.

I could only watch Zhong Yuxuan fall into trouble, my heart filled with powerlessness and despair. He stood up with difficulty, his eyes swept across the enemy in front of him, his eyes were as sharp as a knife, with a resolute cruelty.

"It's not that easy to catch me!" He roared, and tried his best to break out of the encirclement. In the end, he succeeded, but he also paid a heavy price.

I watched him staggering away, and my heart ached.

Back at the hospital, I stayed by Zhong Yuxuan's bed, holding his hand, tears streaming down my face. He was seriously injured, but what worried me more was that after he woke up, he just looked at me silently, his eyes were empty, as if he had lost his soul.

"Luo Xue..." His voice was hoarse and weak, "I'm sorry for making you worry..."

I shook my head, choking with sobs and unable to speak.

At this moment, the doctor came in and said to us solemnly: "Mr. Zhong, Miss Li's condition has suddenly worsened. If we don't find an effective treatment, she may never wake up..."

My world seemed to collapse at this moment, and everything before my eyes was dark.

Zhong Yuxuan raised his head suddenly, his eyes filled with shock and fear. He grabbed the doctor's hand and asked in a trembling voice: "What did you say? This is impossible! Why is this happening..."

The doctor's voice was like a thunderclap, exploding in my ears, and also shattering Zhong Yuxuan's last glimmer of hope. He loosened his hand weakly and fell into a chair, his eyes empty, as if his soul had been pulled out of his body.

"Impossible... This is impossible..." He muttered to himself, repeating this sentence over and over again, his tone full of despair and disbelief.

My heart seemed to be tightly grasped by an invisible hand, I had difficulty breathing, and my vision went dark. I wanted to speak, to comfort him, but my throat seemed to be blocked by something, and I couldn't make any sound.

I saw him touch my cheek with his shaking hands, his fingertips were cold, as if he was touching a fragile treasure. The pain and self-blame in his eyes were like sharp knives, stabbing my heart fiercely.

"Luo Xue, I'm sorry... It's all my fault... If I hadn't involved you, you wouldn't..." His voice was hoarse, filled with deep regret and self-blame.

I wanted to tell him that it was not his fault, that none of this was his fault. However, I could do nothing but watch him sink into deep self-blame and pain, and I was powerless.

The atmosphere in the room was suffocating and time seemed to have stood still, with only the sound of our heavy breathing remaining.

I don’t know how long it took, but Zhong Yuxuan finally stood up. He looked at me deeply with a complicated look, which showed pain, reluctance, and deep love.

"Luo Xue, wait for me, I will find a way to save you, I will..." He murmured in a low voice, his voice firm and powerful, like a promise to me, and more like a vow to himself.

After saying that, he turned and left the ward, his back looking lonely and desolate.

I wanted to chase after him, wanted to hold him back, but my body felt as if it were filled with lead, so heavy that I couldn't move.

I could only watch him leave, tears silently falling, my heart filled with fear and despair.

I was afraid. I was afraid that he would never recover. I was afraid that he would do something impulsive. I was even more afraid that he would... give up on me.
