Rebirth: My Brother Can Only Be Mine

Chapter 44 Brother, why do you think the village is gone?

Gukou Village is located ten miles away from the back mountain of Yuanjian Sect, surrounded by dense forests.

When the four of them came out, they found themselves at the dilapidated mountain god temple. Only a bare platform was left where the mountain god statue had originally been placed.

Unlike the clean platform five years ago, it is now covered with a thick layer of dust and the temple is filled with cobwebs.

Walking out of the temple gate, I saw that no one had burned incense on the bronze tripod in front of the temple gate for a long time. The unburned incense inside had lost its color, and only some of it was left in a dilapidated state after being beaten by rain and wind.

"It seems that no one has come to the mountain temple for a long time. Could it be that the old lady moved away?" Lin Huaijin said.

"What? My sister moved away?" "Then where will my sister go?" Yue Lingluo asked anxiously.

"Don't worry, let's go down the mountain and take a look first." Lin Qing comforted.

The village is at the foot of this mountain. The forest on this mountain is denser and more prosperous than those on other mountains. Most of the trees are so thick that it takes two adults holding hands to hug them.

The leaves are dense and the branches are numerous, and from a distance they look like soldiers standing in rows.

The trunks of each tree are straight and the leaves stand side by side like shoulders.

It is not as big as the big trees in the secret forest, but it is much bigger than other normally grown trees.

The four of them walked quickly down the mountain.

When they met the serious grandma here five years ago, the two of them followed her slowly and were ready to help her down the mountain, but she was unwilling.

Uncle Yue and Yue Lingluo both felt that the old lady should be Yue Lingmeng, but they didn’t know why she had to dress up as an old lady.

In less than half an hour we reached the foot of the mountain.

A few people came out of the secret realm in the afternoon, walked through a dark passage, and then went down the mountain from the mountain temple.

The sun had already set when they reached the foot of the mountain. Seeing the scene before him, Lin Huaijin opened his eyes wide in shock.

The last time I came here, the village was filled with red glow under the setting sun, and smoke was rising from each house.

Some people just came out of their homes, carrying wooden basins to wash clothes in the river. Some people were bending over to pick vegetables by the fields. Children were running around under the big tree at the entrance of the village, calling their friends. A man was walking home with a full bucket of water from the well, and a big yellow dog was lying lazily in front of the door.

Everyone becomes a silhouette in the twilight and sunset glow, forming a vibrant and down-to-earth picture of the world.

However, this village, which once had hundreds of households, now only has some ruins left. The dilapidated houses have almost collapsed, with only a few intact houses left.

"What happened?" Lin Huaijin was surprised.

Lin Qing looked around and said, "Let's go to my mother-in-law's house first."

Lin Qing walked towards her mother-in-law's house based on her previous memory.

At the twilight, on the outskirts of the village stood a small courtyard with a fence. The fence had collapsed in several places, and only the original shape could be vaguely seen.

Originally, the yard was planted with cabbage and unknown saplings, and there was green moss on the ground.

Now the grass in the yard is taller than a person.

It was autumn, and the weeds in the yard began to turn yellow and wither, making the yard look even more desolate and dilapidated.

"What's going on?" "Did my sister live here before?" "Why is she gone?" "What happened?" "Is my sister okay?"

Yue Lingluo was so anxious that she was running around in circles. She walked into the courtyard, reached out to push away the weeds that were taller than a person, and walked towards the house.

"Don't worry, Reimu is so smart, she will be fine." Mu Xia pushed aside the weeds and followed.

Lin Qing and the other person looked at each other and followed.

After checking around the house, it was almost dark, so everyone decided to stay here for one night and then conduct a detailed investigation tomorrow.

After a quick cleanup, we found that two houses had collapsed quite badly and were no longer habitable.

The four of them slept on the floor in the only relatively intact room.

Since Yue Lingluo was afraid of fire, she didn't make a fire.

Although it was a bit chilly in the autumn night, they all had some skills so they were not too cold.

Yue Lingluo walked around the room anxiously, she was very worried about her sister.

"Xiao Luo, take a rest first, we will search again tomorrow." Lin Qing said.

"Brother Lin Qing, is something wrong with my sister?"

"That shouldn't be the case. There are no signs of a fight in the room. Your sister should have left on her own."

"But if she's not waiting at the exit, where else can she go? And the whole village is deserted. There's no way to even find someone to ask."

"It will be fine." Mu Xia stood in the shadows and said in a firm tone.

"Sister, please be alright."

"It's too late today. You should have a good rest so that you can have the energy to investigate carefully tomorrow to avoid missing any news." Lin Qing comforted them.

"This is the only way." Yue Lingluo stopped wandering around, jumped onto the roof, found a place on the roof, turned into a vine, and forced herself to rest.

There was a big hole in the ceiling of the room, and you could see the stars directly through the hole when you lay down.

Yue Lingluo transformed into her original form and lay on the thatched roof to practice in the moonlight.

Mu Xia did not turn back into his original form, but he was lying on the thatched roof basking in the moonlight. His usual confident and arrogant appearance was nowhere to be seen under the moonlight.

He just stared at the moon in a daze, not knowing what he was thinking about. After a long time, he closed his eyes and rested.

Their plants can absorb the essence of the sun and the moon for cultivation. Lin Huaijin looked at them with envy.

Lin Qing had already cleaned up the usable things in the house, leaving a relatively intact table. After wiping it clean, his brother could lie on the table and sleep.

There is also a stool in the room so I can sit and meditate at night.

It was late at night and the two people on the roof were already asleep, but Lin Huaijin was still not sleepy. After coming out, anxiety swept over him.

He slept on his side, looking at his brother who was meditating on a stool, and asked softly, "Brother, why do you think the village is gone?"

Lin Qing was not in a state of meditation, but was just practicing his mental skills. Upon hearing this, he said softly, "I'm not sure yet."

Lin Huaijin quietly moved over, and his brother sat with his chest probably at the edge of the table.

Lin Huaijin wanted to get close to his brother's ear to talk, but found that it was really tiring for his neck to lie on his side and get close to his brother's ear.

So he turned over and sat up, sitting cross-legged on the table, holding his brother's head with both hands, leaning over to his brother's ear and asking, "Brother, do you think it was done by the Yuanjian Sect?"

Lin Qing opened his eyes and looked at his brother, who was now sitting higher than him and talking furtively like a thief. He smiled unconsciously and lowered his voice quietly, saying in his brother's ear: "No, there is no reason."

Lin Huaijin: "Could it be that because we two are missing, Sect Master Lin destroyed the village?"

Lin Huaijin moved closer and spoke almost in a whisper.

Lin Qing felt a warm breath in his ears, pulled away a little, and said, "The reason is not sufficient. The two of us did not disappear in Gukou Village. We were punished in the back mountain at that time. They should not know that we came back to Gukou Village."

Lin Huaijin felt a little relieved.

Lin Qing continued, "And judging by the dilapidated state of the house, it should have started four years ago, and we disappeared five years ago, so the time doesn't match."

Lin Huaijin was puzzled: "And there are no signs of fighting."

Lin Qing: "Yes, the houses are naturally dilapidated, and there is no bloodstain in the few houses we saw along the way." After a pause, he added: "But it is not ruled out that the bloodstains were washed away by rain. Let's check again tomorrow during the day."

Lin Huaijin felt relieved, and the panic and anxiety that had surged up after seeing the village eased a little.
