After a simple rebirth

Chapter 106 Homemade Desk

When Fu Ying was almost done eating, Little Heitan came over leisurely after brushing his teeth and started eating.

After finishing her meal, Fu Ying said to her mother, "Mom, put away your things and take out what you need. Mine is already ready. Then I need a shelf with many layers to hold things. If it's too expensive to buy one, we can build it ourselves!"

"I definitely won't buy it. A cabinet costs hundreds of dollars! I used to bring back wooden boards. I can just put one together myself."

Even if Fu's mother didn't spend that money, there would be many places to spend money at home after she returned home. Now we can't farm during the summer vacation, and we have to buy all the food and daily necessities from others, so we can't save any money.

"Okay, then find me four sticks of the same length to use as a base and I'll assemble it myself." Fu Ying didn't think it was impossible. She wasn't an expert in handicrafts, but she also loved doing this kind of handicraft.

"Can you do it? Otherwise, I'll call you Brother Kui or your second uncle?" Fu's mother didn't believe that her daughter could make this kind of table. If it were so easy, those furniture sellers wouldn't be able to sell it for so much.

"Of course, as long as it doesn't shake, it can be used. There are not many requirements, so there is no need to trouble others." Fu Ying prefers to do things by herself and is not willing to trouble others. If the result is not what she wants, she can't say it and she will still owe others a favor.

"Okay then, you can open the largest package. There are wooden boards inside, both big and small, and sticks too, but they are very short," replied Fu's mother.

Her factory in Guangdong Province is a wood board factory. Some waste materials are not used in the factory, so the workers will take them home. Fu Ma thinks that these waste materials can be used and it would be nice to make a few stools at home, so she would take some home and then bring them back to her hometown.

"I have several square and round wooden sticks at my house. I'll ask your second uncle to come and help you. He also has tools such as hammers and planers." Aunt Fu, who was nearby, heard this and spoke up.

"It's okay, second uncle. I just need to do some practice so that I can have material for my essays in the future." Fu Ying deliberately spoke in a high-sounding way. She really didn't want to trouble her second uncle. He was stingy and nagging. It would be better for her to die of exhaustion than to trouble him.

Sure enough, when the second aunt heard this, it seemed as if what Fu Ying was doing was very important, so she stopped talking and took the initiative to take her to her home.

Her house is just opposite the Fu family. It is still an old house and has not been demolished and rebuilt. The area is not small. In fact, in the past, it took a lot of money to build it.

Her husband, Fu's second uncle, used to work in a state-owned enterprise. After he retired from the army, he became a railway worker. He also went abroad on business in that era. Anyway, he always had a pension, which used to be more than 1,000 yuan, and later increased to more than 3,000 yuan.

Therefore, his family has always lived a relatively good life in the village. Because he is a public official, he can only have one child, which is Fu Ying's cousin's son. There is even less pressure at home, and the house was built earlier.

Later, my second uncle's son went into business and made some money. He asked the old man for money and demolished the house and rebuilt it. Later, with the help of my second uncle's connections and the help of the village officials, I became the village committee secretary in my thirties without any education.

For various reasons, the second aunt's family had always looked down on Fu Ying's family. The two families often had conflicts, and the second aunt would pile up dirty things at her house and plant her own things on the land that her family did not plant.

The Fu family is not in their hometown all year round, so they don't care too much. Besides, they are direct relatives and neighbors, so they help each other. The Fu family doesn't often go to Fu's second aunt's house when they have nothing to do, so as not to make others think they are asking for money, but the second aunt will come to Fu's house when she has nothing to do.

His old house was a rare house with a wall, the yard was inside the wall, and it was not facing the main road like other houses, but facing east and west. But the new house was the same as others.

The current house has a yard when you enter the front door, and on the left are three connected houses like Fu Ying's house. On the far left is the dining area with a stove.

The door was not closed and her second uncle was sitting there watching TV. Fu Ying greeted him.

Then the second aunt asked the second uncle, "Where are your carpentry tools?"

My second uncle asked, "What are you going to do?"

Second Aunt scolded him directly, "Why are you asking so many questions? Just give it to me."

The second uncle was also a little angry at this remark, "Isn't it in the house next to the chicken coop? Go find it yourself!"

Second Aunt decided on the location and took Fu Ying there. Fu Ying took a saw, a hammer, and a handful of nails. Then she followed Second Aunt to the pile of wood. Second Aunt asked her to take everything she wanted. Fu Ying took four square sticks of similar thickness, about 1.3 meters long, and needed to cut them. The others were not used for the time being.

When she got home, Xiao Heitan had finished eating and Fu's mother was washing the dishes. Fu Ying went back to her room to assemble the desk because she didn't need him anymore.

Saw the four sticks flat on one side, keep them on a level surface, and avoid different heights. Then measure the exact length and mark them before sawing. The manual saw made a creaking sound, but fortunately the sticks were not big, so although it was still hard to saw, it was not too slow.

Fu Ying planned to make a rectangular table, not a ladder-shaped one, which was suitable for assembly with screws. Nailing it herself would be too unstable.

After unpacking the big packages, the largest one was 1.5 meters long and 1 meter wide, quite large and perfect for using as a desk.

I compared the remaining sticks and wanted to put them between two sticks to add an extra layer of reinforcement, but it turned out to be not long enough, neither long nor wide enough. I had no choice but to run to my second aunt's house, talk to my second uncle, and get two more sticks.

The four upright sticks were used as pillars, and the two new sticks were used as beams to roughly nail out the base of the table.

Then put the big wooden board with the front side facing the ground and the back side facing up, and put the base on it. The board is a little wider, but it's not a big problem.

Fu Ying first used the small triangular wooden blocks that had been sawed in advance to nail at the contact position between the pillar and the board. After nailing a few nails to roughly fix it, she slowly turned the entire table over and then nailed it at the four positions of the pillar.

After nailing it down, she tried the table and found it was not very stable. Fu Ying checked it carefully. The good news was that the height was fine and there was no one high and one low. The bad news was that the contact position between the base of the column and the board was not fixed enough.

Fu Ying hammered the nails all the way in, and then hammered another nail in each corner until no visible nails could be felt on the surface of the table and no scratches were to be feared. Then she reinforced the small wooden blocks between the pillars and the board, with two wooden blocks at each corner, and the table was stable.

As for the issue of long-term use, we will talk about it after using it for a long time.

There were still some scraps left, and Fu Ying wanted to get it all done in one go.

So I cut the narrowest wooden board into a rectangle, cut out three wooden boards about the size of A4 paper, found a narrow wooden board that was also meters long, and nailed the newly cut wooden boards on both sides and in the middle.

This is not suitable for placing small triangular wooden blocks, so Fu Ying chose rectangular building blocks and nailed them at the contact point between the vertical and horizontal wooden boards.

Finally, nail the narrow wooden board parts to the large desk, and the simple version of the desk is finally completed.

The narrow space on top can be used to store sundries and books, and the desk below is purely for studying. Install the small desk lamp bought from Guangdong Province, and the study atmosphere will be created.

If we squeeze in a little, Little Black Charcoal and I can do homework together, as the narrow wooden board happens to have partitions.

The last step is to smooth it with sandpaper. The wooden board that Fu Ma brought back was already sanded, but the nailing position still needs to be felt. The stick area was also carefully sanded with sandpaper wrapped with a rag.

Xiao Fu, who made a large handicraft for the first time, succeeded!

It's so fulfilling to watch.
