Fantasy Game: Infinite City

Chapter 17: Infinite City Downtime Maintenance

After leaving Despair Town, Han Zu and Lu An were teleported back to the safe zone. When they walked out of the safe zone, the number of players in the lobby outside doubled, and they were all discussing something intensely.

"Why is there no settlement after the dungeon is over? I didn't get any rewards!"

"You're not bad at all! I was about to pass the level, but I was forcibly teleported out by the system! What happened?"

Players basically encountered the same problem. Either they did not receive any rewards after completing the game, or they were forcibly teleported out of the dungeon.

However, they didn't suffer any losses, except for wasting some basic recovery items, so the crowd was not angry, but just felt a little strange.

"All server notification: Due to a problem with the main server of Infinite City, Infinite City will be shut down for maintenance. The estimated time is: 72 hours. After the server maintenance is completed, the rewards for players who have passed the level and the system maintenance compensation will be recalculated. You will not be able to log in to Infinite City during the maintenance period. The estimated maintenance start time countdown is: 1:37"

"Hey! It turns out the server crashed. That's all right!"

One player in the crowd sighed in relief, and soon stopped caring.

"What's going on? The server crashed. Is everything okay?"

"It's normal. When Infinite City first appeared, the server crashed every ten days or so. It was because the number of players increased too much and the information couldn't be processed. It crashed. We just need to wait for the official to replace the server! It's no big deal!"

"Will our data be lost? I am more concerned about this."

"No, but the higher the level of the player, the slower the data recovery. I can understand that. After all, their skills and equipment are much higher than others, so the data is relatively complicated. But so far, I haven't heard of anyone's data being lost, so don't worry, you just can't play the game for a few days."

"Oh, that's fine. But speaking of which, the server of Infinite City hasn't had any problems for a long time."

"Yeah, I remember the last time the server crashed was a year ago, because at that time Infinite City had just been introduced overseas. Now it may be that the number of people has reached or exceeded the threshold that the server can handle."

"What does this compensation mean?" asked a man who looked like a novice player.

"Oh, it's similar to the compensation given by other games during maintenance. Usually it's some currency, or a discount in the store, but if you're lucky, you might get a box."

"Box? What do you mean? A treasure box for the lottery?"

"Almost. The full name of that thing seems to be... Wait a minute, let me think about it... Ah! Yes! It's called "A Joyful Treasure Box Full of Infinite Possibilities"

"The box has a full name? Is there something special about it?"

"Yes, the boxes can contain some rare equipment or items that cannot be taken out of the dungeon. After getting them from the boxes, you can use them normally. However, I heard that those items cannot be traded or auctioned."

"Wouldn't it be a loss if we got something useless?"

"Those things can be smelted and used to strengthen equipment or props. If you are not satisfied with them, you can also directly decompose them into... experience points."

"Oh! That's good!"

"But it is said that the drop rate of the box is very low."

"Normal, normal. If this thing had a high drop rate, who would still go to the dungeon? They would just wait for the server to crash!"

The players gathered together and discussed the matter.

Han Zu was about to say something to Lu An next to him, but Lu An, with a red face, raised his head and looked at the sky, looking very strange.

"What kind of performance art is this?"

"Um...you're still naked..."

"what?"

Han Zuyi lowered his head, still maintaining his naked posture.

"It seems to be a system problem. My clothes have not been refreshed."

"Give."

Lu An took out a huge cardboard box from the prop bar and blocked Han Zu's lower body.

"Item Name: Fool's Disguise"

"Effect: Hiding your body in a cardboard box will allow you to sneak around perfectly. The cardboard box will force other people's minds to rationalize the existence of the cardboard box. If the cardboard box cannot cover your entire body, it will not work."

"Item description: It looks like the cardboard box of a domestic brand refrigerator."

"Features: It's really just a cardboard box, except that it can be used for stealth."

The cardboard box was not very big, so it could only cover Han Zu's key parts, but that was enough.

"Check your information panel to see if there is any problem. Mine can't be opened now. It says it is waiting for maintenance."

Lu An looked at his information panel and saw that it had turned into a gray option, but the items, equipment and skill bars were still normal.

"Let me see... Ouch... Something went wrong. I guess it's waiting for maintenance."

Although Han Zu's information panel could be opened normally, the data on it turned into a bunch of garbled characters. The panel kept flashing. Suddenly, the voice of the system came from Han Zu's mind.

"Trying to repair...hiss...hum..."

"Restart successful, player abnormality detected, adaptive modification in progress."

"Editing, please wait."

Han Zu opened his data panel and looked at it again, and found something strange.

"Level: 15"

"Occupation: Support Super Soldier (discovering a new route, evolving)"

"Secondary Attribute (Strength): 107"

"Main attribute (Constitution): 170"

"Health:"

"Skill: Biochemical transformation of the body (Phase 1, abnormality found, adapting)"

"Professional Super Skill: Orbital Airdrop (Anomaly Found, Appearance Modified)"

“Equipment: “Erica” (abnormal, offline modification in progress)”

"Buff: Gift of Death (Concentration: 15%, abnormal, adapting)"

"Debuff: Colossus (abnormal, adaptive)"

Basically, all of my data has an abnormal entry at the end, and I cannot modify it or view the detailed information for the time being.

"Shen Yi sent me a message that the guild war event has been postponed for a month. There is nothing to do for the next two days."

"That's it, let's quit first and go out to get something to eat."

"Okay, I've got the props back, let's go."

After exiting Infinite City, Han Zu and Lu An left the game cabin and got some food. After eating and drinking, Lu An browsed the Infinite City forum and checked the game video of Despair Town, of course, from Han Zu's perspective.

Han Zu had nothing to do, so he squatted in the toilet, took out his mobile phone, and started a 1v9 battle in the orphanage. It was strange that this game had been around for decades and had not yet collapsed.

“Hiss…hiss…”

"Huh? My phone is broken?"

Han Zu heard the sound of electricity, but he thought there might be something wrong with the phone, so he didn't think much about it.

After coming out of the toilet, Han Zu stopped the game, lay on the sofa wearing only his pants, and watched borderline videos until after six in the evening.

After listening to the same music for hundreds of times, Lu An, who could no longer bear it, came behind Han Zu, slapped him on the head, and snatched his phone. Han Zu, who had lost his entertainment, lay on the sofa and grumbled for a long time until Lu An returned his phone to him.

"Brother, I'm going to take a nap. Please put on your headphones. Please!"

"walk slowly."

Lu An walked into the bedroom. It seemed that what she saw and heard in Despair Town made her feel very tired, so even though it was only seven or eight o'clock in the evening, Lu An fell asleep quickly.

Han Zu put on his headphones and continued to watch borderline videos. At around nine o'clock in the evening, it seemed that he had watched enough. Han Zu plugged in the charging cable, turned off the lights in the room, and found a crime movie to watch.

The movie was very long, nearly three hours, but the plot was very intricate and the actors' acting was very good, so Han Zu was concentrating and spent the time quickly.

After watching the movie, Han Zu felt a little tired, so he lit a cigar. It was his habit to smoke a cigarette before going to bed.

Soon, after finishing his cigar, Han Zu threw his phone on the coffee table, pulled the blanket next to him to cover his stomach, turned over, closed his eyes and prepared to take a nap.

"Adaptation completed."

Han Zu heard a sentence while half asleep and half awake, but he became sleepy and soon fell into a deep sleep and forgot about it.

late at night.

The dim living room was filled with the sound of Han Zu's heavy breathing as he slept, but other than that it was very quiet.

"Ah.."

Lu An woke up, wearing pajamas, yawning, and walked out of the bedroom in a daze. He walked barefoot on the carpet, went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water, and sat on the sofa with the glass in his hand.

After taking two sips, Lu An was still a little dazed. He stared at the cup of water on the coffee table in a daze and dozed off. After a while, he finally remembered to go back to bed. He stood up shakily, walked back to the room, fell asleep on the bed.

Han Zu was still sleeping soundly. He turned over in his sleep and his left hand hung on the carpet.

"Woo?"

Suddenly, a burst of light flashed near Han Zu, briefly illuminating the room for a second, but Han Zu was sleeping soundly and did not notice it. When the light faded, two huge death hounds suddenly appeared beside Han Zu. The hounds felt very unfamiliar with this environment.

"Woo!"

But soon, they found Han Zu sleeping on the sofa next to them, and recognized his appearance and smell. The two hounds barked briskly, but in order not to disturb their owner's sleep, they quickly quieted down.

However, this did not solve their excitement. The two hounds rubbed Han Zu's body affectionately with their heads and licked Han Zu's face with their tongues from time to time.

After being excited for a while, the two sturdy death hounds lay quietly beside the sofa, and used their heads to lift Han Zu's big hands hanging on the carpet to their backs. Then they closed their eyes contentedly and fell into a deep sleep.

"?"

Not long after, the two hounds raised their heads and looked towards the entrance. They heard a sound.

"Buzz~!"

A few minutes later, several motorcycles passed by Han Zu's warehouse, and there was nothing unusual. The hounds lowered their heads and fell asleep again.
