Water and Fire Twins Magician
Chapter 34 Go it alone
Finally, he passed the test and reached the third floor of the Masala Ruins. The shining sea of slimes appeared before him again, and this time he could finally give it a good hug.
Not only Jacques, but for all travelers, the Slime Sea at the entrance to the third floor is hailed as one of the most impressive scenes in the Masala journey.
While Jacques was rolling around in the group of slimes, there were actually quite a few tourists nearby doing the same.
This sea of slimes is actually not very large, only about 200 square meters. But to create and maintain this scene, more than sweepers are needed to set up defenses in the nearby roads to prevent other monsters from entering.
This is actually a very difficult task, because the monsters on the third floor are already strong. Shiny slimes are a delicious tonic that is very attractive to all monsters, and there are so many of them. The sweepers have to keep fending off the monsters, and at the same time, a large amount of "delicacies" gather in front of them, which will only continue to ignite their animal nature.
"Huh? It's Master Jacques! You finally made it to the third floor!" A cleaner spotted Jacques.
"Now is not the time to say hello! Master Jacques, please go over there and take the place of Uncle Lei who was just injured!"
So Jacques joined the sweepers in their collective defense.
The strength of these sweepers should not be underestimated, and they are basically above average among the garrison members. But even so, they have to unite and cooperate with each other to resist the continuous attacks of monsters.
Before he grew up enough to venture out on his own on the third floor, Jacques could only serve as a member of the group every day, observing and learning from battles how to deal with the irrationally hostile monsters.
Although the monsters on the second floor were no pushovers, they did not pose a threat to Jacques. Although he had to be careful in dealing with them, he did not have the determination to "either you or I die".
But the sweepers on the third floor have to face deadly threats from monsters every day, which requires them to remain highly vigilant at all times, with sharp eyes and a determination to move forward and win rather than lose.
"This is the will to fight." Jacques seemed to understand something.
"Yes, you have finally made another step forward." Gandalf said: "Some things cannot be taught by words or actions. You must take risks to understand them personally."
This was the first time that Jacques experienced a true fight for his life.
After working hard for half a month, Jacques's nervousness gradually subsided, replaced by an inexplicable excitement.
During this dangerous cleanup job, he always had an excited smile on his face. He began to feel the joy of fighting from the bottom of his heart, which also meant that he could handle the tasks in front of him and chat and joke with his companions during the battle with relative ease.
"There is less than half the time left. It's time to go it alone." Although he felt that his strength was slightly insufficient, Jacques had decided to venture deeper into the third level and take the risk alone.
This is a job that only powerful sweepers can perform, because one of their tasks is to lead slightly stronger adventurers into the deepest part of the ruins to find higher quality and rarer shiny slimes.
Wherever there is a need to entertain tourists, sweepers are needed to control the number of monsters and the areas where they appear.
The third floor of the ruins is darker than the previous floor, so there are a lot of snake and scorpion monsters, as well as a lot of small flying monsters, such as silk-spinning bats and dark ditch flying squirrels. Unfortunately, these ghost things are cute in appearance but extremely deadly in reality.
Jacques was completely helpless against flying monsters. Limited by his size and weapons, he could not kill these flying monsters with his sword, and could only wave his sword to drive them away. This made him very embarrassed, and when he went on an expedition, there were always a lot of flying monsters following him.
But this is not a serious problem. As long as they can survive on the third floor, they will be qualified. After all, Jacques and Gandalf's goal is to find the predicted weakness of the barrier on the third floor of the ruins so that they can escape from Marsala before the deadline.
Due to the constant interference from flying monsters, it took Jacques three days to walk through the third floor.
"It's really strange. The magic elements on this floor are distributed very evenly, and I can hardly feel the flow of potential energy." Gandalf said.
"You mean, the barrier's weakness isn't on this floor?" Jacques scratched his head. "Could it be on the second floor? But the second floor is also crowded with tourists. If that were the case, it should have been discovered long ago, right?"
"It shouldn't be on the second floor, because I clearly feel that the third floor is closer to the weak point." Gandalf said, "There's nothing we can do. Maybe we didn't search carefully enough. Let's start over."
Jacques had no choice but to do as he was told.
