Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy

Chapter 217: Obi-Wan and Satine's Past

During this heated debate, the clones continued to sweep below and the luxury ship entered hyperspace.

The Avengers and Jedi talk in the room Anakin and Obi-Wan shared during this trip.

There was a slight awkwardness between them, Obi-Wan being unusually silent, all eyes on him.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Kenobi said loudly.

"So~" Natasha started. "What's going on between you and Satine?"

"Nothing." Kenobi tried to brush aside his former Padawan's sneer.

"Please, Master. Don't avoid this subject, because we know this is unlike you. What is your history with Satine?

Obi-Wan didn't respond at first, choosing to remain silent.

"Your heartbeat spiked there for a moment, Obi-Wan," Matt pointed out, making the Jedi Master tense.

Obi-Wan sighed and acquiesced to their request.

"In my youth, this was an extended mission. Master Qui-Gon and I spent a year on Mandalore protecting the Duchess and her family from the insurgents that threatened her world. They sent bounty hunters after us. We were always on the run, living an itinerant life, never knowing what the next day would bring." He said in a distant tone.

"Sounds romantic." Anakin quipped, earning a wry look from his Master as Natasha and Steve laughed. Matt just smiled.

"That's it for you," Kenobi said.

"Well, what's not romantic about that?" Natasha asked with a smile. "It sounds like a typical cliché romance movie from Earth. The boy is a bodyguard, responsible for protecting the girl. The girl is initially resistant to the boy before they fall in love.

Matt again noticed Obi-Wan's heart rate spike, but remained silent.

"A civil war killed most of Sardin's people, and she abhorred violence. When she returned, she took on the daunting task of rebuilding her homeland alone. Kenobi continued, shrugging off Natasha's comments.

"Aren't you staying to help her?" Steve asked.

"No. My duty as a Jedi Knight requires me to be elsewhere," Obi-Wan said bluntly.

"A request? But it's clear you have feelings for her. That must have influenced your decision." Anakin said fiercely.

"Oh, I see," Obi-Wan said, not denying it at all. "I live by the Jedi Code."

The Jedi Master didn't miss the disapproving look the Avengers shared.

"Of course. As Master Yoda said, 'A Jedi must not form an obsession'. Anakin said in a rather bitter tone, which did not go unnoticed by the Avengers.

"Yes. But he usually ignores the undercurrent of regret." Obi-Wan admitted.

"Why don't you try it?" Natasha asked. "Why run away?"

"It will only lead to suffering," Kenobi said. "The Jedi Code states that obsession will only lead to inner conflict within oneself and may lead you down the path of the dark side."

“Honestly, that sounds contradictory,” Steve said, crossing his arms. “How can you forbid attachment and yet emphasize compassion and caring?”

"Our compassion and care are for all, not just one individual," Obi-Wan countered. "Attachment gets in the way of that concept."

"Boys, you're lucky Tony isn't here." Natasha said calmly. "If he were here, he'd upset the whole order. He'd probably annoy all of you.

"Sounds like it'll be fun," Anakin said with a grin.

"Anakin." Kenobi gave him a disapproving look, but the Jedi simply shrugged.

"What? They have to lighten their load sometimes," Anakin said flatly. "All these rules and restrictions can come back to bite us, you—"

"Something's wrong." Matt said suddenly in a sharp tone. "I just heard a clone trooper...his heart completely stopped.

"What?" Anakin said in horror. "Are you sure?"

Steve raised his wrist instead, “Captain Rex, Commander Cody.

"Yes, Captain Rogers?" Rex responded.

"Call all the soldiers in and make sure they are accounted for," Steve ordered...

"Red Eyes, did you hear that?"

All they heard was silence.

"We need to get over there," Obi-Wan said, and as he was about to leave the room, Anakin held out his hand.

"I'll go, Master. If there's anything dangerous down there, the clones and I can handle it.

"Mind if I join you?" Steve stepped forward to join Anakin, and the Jedi nodded. "Natasha, Matt, do you think the two of you can hold down the fort here with Obi-Wan?"

“We’ll do our part.”

Steve and Anakin nodded and left, and Natasha looked to Obi-Wan.

"What now, Obi-Wan?"

"Now we must do our part to keep the Senator and the Duchess safe," Obi-Wan said, for that was the most obvious thing to do.

The group was currently sitting down to dinner when the Jedi Knight and his two companions left to meet the Senator and the Duchess.

Cham Sindula sighed to himself as he gazed upon all these luxurious and exquisite foods and compared them with the scraps and rations he had eaten not long ago in Ryloth.

It's still a jarring experience, to say the least, for the Twi'lek war hero, who's more accustomed to fighting for his people on the battlefield than arguing for them. But he's not here just for himself. He's here for his beloved wife and daughter, to use the influence he's gained to shape the galaxy into a better place.

"Sindulla."

The Twi'lek Senator blinked and glanced at Satine who was looking at him curiously.

"Is everything ok? Is the food to your liking?" Satine asked politely.

Chaim gave her a slightly nervous smile.

"Very good, Duchess," Chaim admitted. "But I'm still not used to this kind of pomp and circumstance."

Satine turned around as the door to the restaurant opened and Obi-Wan walked in with Murdock and Romanoff.

"Excuse me, Senators. Our men are investigating the situation below decks. I ask that you wait here until it is resolved. Kenobi notified everyone present, causing some nervousness, but now with the Jedi and two Avengers present, things seemed to be under control.
