Doctor Strange, Mordo, Celeste, and Ghost Rider are running through the corridors of a hospital, a hospital that is very familiar to one of its former employees.

Between the four of them, Furuichi was placed on a rolling stretcher and they wheeled her down the hospital hallway toward the emergency room.

"Christine!" Doctor Strange yelled at the top of his lungs.

His ex-girlfriend looked up from her position at the counter.

"You've got to be kidding me," Christine muttered to herself, turning around to face her ex-boyfriend when she spotted the Ancient One.

In an instant, her emotions went from shock to anxiety, and she ran towards the group of "strange" people who brought her the latest patient.

"What happened?" Christine asked immediately.

"She's unconscious," Doctor Strange replied immediately.

"Neurogenic?"

"Yes."

They quickly moved the Ancient One's stretcher to a set of doors, while Doctor Strange temporarily stepped back and quickly dressed himself in surgical clothing.

Celeste, Mordo, and Ghost Rider are stopped by Palmer as they enter the emergency room.

"I'm sorry, but you three have to stay here."

"But we—"

"I understand." Mordo said with a gloomy face.

"Why did he go in and we stayed?" Ghost Rider asked, pointing at Doctor Strange who walked past them into the emergency room.

“He may have lost his hands, but his mind is still intact. Christine wasted no time in responding. “He is the best surgeon this hospital has ever had.

The three tried to argue further, but the door to the ER closed on them, prompting them to enter the observation room, which Kristen directed them to.

There, they could only stand and watch as Ancient One was wheeled to the center of the room, doctors moving quickly around.

Doctor Strange quickly donned the appropriate sanitary suit before he could step into the operating room. Millions of thoughts and scenarios played in his mind about how he could help save the Ancient One. Nothing of a mystical nature, but rather scientific.

He had spoken to Nick beforehand and told him that he would not be able to use any medical equipment due to his hand, but that he might help guide others if given the opportunity.

While Ancient One's head didn't take any damage, he saw that Muir had grabbed it while trying to absorb her power. Who knows what would have happened then.

Once everything was ready, Doctor Strange entered the room and stood in a suitable position so that he would not interfere with others while maintaining a good observation of what was going on.

Just then, something happened.

Doctor Strange squinted at the heart rate monitor and noticed it was blinking.

He then turned to Mordo, Celeste, and Ghost Rider, who were all staring at him, with Doctor Strange paying particular attention to the two sorcerers.

In an instant, he threw his head back and his astral projection exploded from his body.

A moment later, Celeste and Mordus joined in, and the three souls spotted the translucent Ancient One floating in the distance.

They briefly glance back at Ghost Rider, who surprisingly stares back at them and gestures for them to go after the Ancient One's spirit.

The three nodded and quickly caught up with the Soul of the Supreme Sorcerer.

"Master." Mordo called to her.

"What are you doing?" Doctor Strange asked. "You need to go back. You're dying!

They all followed her, through rooms, halls, and walls, until they all saw her stop on the balcony.

Gu Yi stared at the cityscape outside as raindrops continued to fall.

It's all true.

"You must return to your body now. You don't have time." Doctor Strange stressed.

"Time is relative. Your bodies haven't hit the ground yet," Ancient One said calmly.

"Master." Mordo said in a tense voice. "Please."

"Come on, Mordo," the Sorcerer Supreme chided affectionately. "You know as well as I do about my stabbing. I think enough of the rules of the natural order have been broken for one day, haven't you? No more is needed."

Celeste remained silent, her brow furrowed, her lips trembling.

Though she knew she couldn't cry in astral form, that didn't stop her eyes from shining with regret and sorrow as she realized her new teacher was in her final moments.

"I have spent so many years staring at this exact moment. But I cannot see it. I have prevented countless terrible futures. After every disaster, there is always another. They brought me here, but I can never go further." said the Ancient One with a haggard face.

Doctor Strange looked at Celeste and Mordo, and they all suddenly realized.

“You think this is where you’re going to end up?” he said.

“I know. I’ve known it since I was a kid, soon after I stumbled upon the London Temple,” she revealed. “I’ve lost everyone I’ve ever known and loved, and I was afraid I’d be next.”

While Celeste has no idea what the Ancient One is referring to, Doctor Strange and Mordo do. A medieval plague in the mid-1300s that wiped out millions of people across the Eurasian territories of Africa.

"That's how you once drew your powers from the Dark Dimension," Doctor Strange speculated. "The Black Death destroyed much of the known world at the time."

"It destroyed the Knights to a terrible degree." Ancient One added. "After the practitioners who stayed behind saved me, I promised them one thing, which was to maintain order. Therefore, I must do everything I can to rebuild it.

"But you've been gone longer than you should have," Mordo said accusingly. "The Dark Dimension is unstable and dangerous. What would you do if it got out of control?

“I was aware of the risk and made sure I would take action if it happened.

"You taught us that this was forbidden, yet you did it anyway. So did Caecilius and his fanatics. Now we are living with the consequences of your deception.

The Ancient nodded. "Yes. I did. You were a model student, Mordo. In the end, it was entirely my fault. Those who don't allow themselves to change are doomed to fail again and again."

Mordo closed his eyes and turned away. "I...can't change.

"Yes," said the Ancient One. "You may think this is false, but you are not the same person who first came to me in Kamar-Taj.

Mordo opened his eyes and stared at his mentor of many years, recalling: "You told me, 'I will teach you to defeat demons'.

"So I ask you once more, my friend. Let go of control as you did before, just as you did when Strange first came to us. You both need Celeste and the Wong to guide the future of our Order together.

She floated back gently for a moment, a hint of guilt flashing across her expression.

“I knew what I was doing was selfish, but I wanted to see how my journey would end after this first peek into the future. I just didn’t know what route would lead me to this point in time.

The bald Celtic looked at the slow-moving landscape in the distance, his eyes sparkling.

"I've been through a lot, and lost more friends and loved ones than I ever imagined possible by extending my own life." The Ancient One said, his voice slightly hoarse. "But... in the many centuries I've lived, I've seen the worst of people find their way back. Find a way... to start over.

A big smile, full of joy, directed at her three students.

“Do you think I did a good enough job?”

When they didn't respond, she continued.

"You know what I see in all your futures?" The Ancient One didn't wait for a response. "The endless possibilities of kindness and goodness."

She didn't need to look at the three of them to sense their doubt, not of her words, but of themselves.

“I have never seen a clear future like the one you have. None of this is set in stone. You will experience many struggles, but most importantly, you will have a great capacity for kindness that will shape and save many others.

She first thought of Doctor Strange.

“Stephen, you’ve always had problems with your self-esteem, which made you believe that you have control over everything. However, the reason you excel is not because you want to succeed, but because you are afraid of failure.

"That's what makes me a great doctor," Doctor Strange argued lightly.

“This is exactly what keeps you from greatness. Arrogance and fear still keep you from learning the simplest and most important lesson.

"When you first came to me, you asked me how I healed Jonathan Pangborn. I didn't. Through my teachings, he was able to channel dimensional energy directly into his body.

"He walks with magic?"

“He can choose to go back to his own life or serve something greater than himself.

"So I can have my hands back? My old life back?

“You can. The world will be a smaller place for it.

Gu Yi looked at the obviously conflicted Mordo, floated over to him, and gave him a warm smile.

"I'm sorry I had to hide what I did from you." The Ancient One said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Sometimes... we do things, we compromise for something greater than ourselves. That means bending the rules when needed. And yet, every time I draw inspiration from the Dark Dimension, I hate myself more and more. I wish I could be a better teacher."

Then, Ancient One turned to look at Celeste, who looked very distressed and sad.

"I'm so sorry to have to leave you so suddenly so soon, dear." Furuichi's voice was soft, accepting her last few seconds on this earth. "I wish I could have stayed and taught you more."

“You taught me so much.” Celeste’s voice trembled. “You brought Bucky and I in. Gave me a home in a world that didn’t belong to me.

In return, she received an even brighter smile.

Doctor Strange spoke with difficulty, "Is there any other way——"

"Death gives meaning to life." The Ancient One interrupted him. "I know I don't have much time.

She let out a shaky breath. "I thought after all this time, I'd be ready.

The bald Celtic looked at the slow-moving landscape and she said it again.

"You will need to work together to help stop not only Dormammu, but Maul as well."

"I'm not ready," said Doctor Strange. "Neither of us are."

“No one is ever ready.”

Ancient One looked back at the three of them one last time and gave them a bright smile.

"Would you please give your regards to the King and Buggy?" the Ancient One asked, though she knew she would not hear their response. "I want to make sure the One Ring is safe."

They tried to respond, but she just stared ahead at the slow downpour.

Her students wanted to talk to her more, but the last thing they felt was her arm around their shoulders.

The three of them looked at Ancient One one last time, only to find that she was gone.

Her soul isn't here.

It's gone.

She no longer exists.

Back in the emergency room, everyone in the room heard the long beating of the heart.

The three magicians have returned to their bodies, but Ghost Rider is still here, with his eyes closed, praying softly.

The doctor called soon after.

Doctor Strange separated himself from the others, he needed a moment of peace and quiet.

He doesn't have much time though, as Kristen finds him and washes her hands with him.

He wants to stay.

He wanted to be with her.

The time he'd spent away from her, in Kamar-Taj and those last few hours, had been wild for him, an extreme life change for sure.

I was strangely reminded of Gu Yi's parting words.

He thought about the new people he had made over the past few months.

Then he couldn't help but think of Bucky and Celeste, the two who were always together whenever the former wasn't out or the latter was training.

It reminded him of his time with Kristen.

He realized that he still wanted to be with her and that she still held his heart in her hands.

...

...

...

But he knew that he now had a greater purpose and mission.

The world is in danger, and he is one of the few who has the power to save it.

So he said goodbye to her.
