The meal for three people was quickly ready: a bowl of steamed bacon, a plate of fried pickles, and a plate of fried dried tofu with chilies.

The three of them ate the simple meal happily.

After dinner, Zhang Ran rushed to wash the dishes.

"Studying is hard, you don't need to wash the dishes." Luo Youdi pushed Zhang Ran away and snatched the bowl back.

There were only three bowls in total. Zhang Ran did not fight with her for them. He stood by and watched her wash the dishes and chatted, "Aunt, have uncle-in-law and the others come to cause trouble again?"

"It's okay, I beat them all out." Luo Youdi said casually, but her brows revealed a trace of fatigue. Her in-laws frequently came to her house, disturbing her peace.

"Aunt, I know an acquaintance who is planning to open a shop in town to sell clothes." Zhang Ran looked at her eyes carefully. "She can't handle it alone, and needs someone to help run the shop and sell clothes. Do you want to go?"

"Ah? Me?" Luo Youdi's eyes were full of hope, but soon they faded like stars and became dim. "Xiaoying is still too young and can't leave me." No one would give a job to a woman with a child.

Zhang Ran confirmed her attitude and decided to wait until she bought the shop before bringing up the matter, lest the news leak out before anything was decided and some villains might come out to ruin her plans.

At night, I turned on the light and continued to do my homework on the table in the main room.

After Luo Youdi helped the child wash up, she reminded him as she passed by the main hall: "Don't study too late, go to bed early."

"Yeah." Zhang Ran responded without raising his head and continued doing his homework.

Seeing her studying so hard, Luo Youdi felt both relieved and distressed. She did not dare to disturb her anymore. She took the child back to the room and gently closed the door.

After finishing her homework, Zhang Ran took out her wrong answer book and started doing questions. She wanted to check whether she had really answered all the questions she got wrong on the last competition paper.

Make a tick for some of the questions you have mastered, and for some questions that you still cannot understand, mark the questions that you have made mistakes again and again with a five-pointed star and save them as the ones you will focus on reviewing next time.

Before I knew it, it was late at night and there was a creaking sound from the door, which was particularly clear in the silent night.

Luo Youdi stood at the door and looked at Zhang Ran: "It's already 12 o'clock, why are you still doing your homework? Go to bed early, it will be the same if you get up tomorrow." Seeing that the girl finally put away her books and went to the kitchen to wash up, she went back to the room and continued to sleep with peace of mind.

The next day, after getting up and having breakfast, Luo Youdi took Xiaoying to the vegetable garden.

Zhang Ran was sitting at the table drawing a design.

Suddenly, there was a sound of footsteps in the yard, which made her look up alertly. "Fifth Uncle?"

Luo Laowu walked into the main room and looked around like a thief. After making sure that Luo Youdi was not at home, he put on the airs of an elder and sat opposite Zhang Ran, "Xiaoyue, I'm not saying anything bad about you, but how can you let your aunt live here all the time?"

Zhang Ran half-squinted his eyes and looked at him, "Uncle Wu, do you want me to kick her out?"

Luo Laowu immediately sat up straight and said, "I didn't say that."

He didn't say that, but he meant it. Zhang Ran's face was filled with sorrow. "Fifth Uncle, my uncle's family beat my aunt, so it's good for her to live with me."

"What are you worried about? Your aunt is so tough, she won't suffer any loss." Luo Laowu said in a preaching tone: "Besides, what couple doesn't fight? Didn't your parents often fight in the past? When did your mother run back to her parents' home instead of coming home?"

Zhang Ran's face suddenly darkened: "So my mother killed my father."

Luo Laowu choked, anger rising on his face, "Look at the villagers, whose daughter-in-law always lives in her parents' home and doesn't go back?"

"She doesn't live in her mother's house, she lives in my house," Zhang Ran corrected.
