The Low-Key Life of a Necromancer

Chapter 339: The Midnight Snack is Gone

The fish stew menu that Li wrote down put the king's chef in a difficult position.

The production steps written on the menu are extremely complicated, to the point of being frustrating.

“Why do we need to remove the fish bones when stewing fish? Also, what the hell is it about frying first and then making soup? And what the hell is it about stewing the fish bones with spices first!”

According to the chef's original experience, cooking fish means killing the fish.

Fine chefs will scale and gut the fish, while rustic cooks will roast the whole fish over a fire.

"Chef, it's not ready yet. The King must be waiting anxiously!"

Seeing that there was no news from the kitchen for a long time, the waiting servants could not stand any longer.

The servant ran into the kitchen and saw the chef, with an angry look on his face, throwing the processed fish into the pot to cook.

The fish is still raw, and it will probably take at least half an hour to cook the fish soup.

However, a rich aroma wafted from the soup pot that had been prepared in advance.

The aroma of the soup base ingredients written by Li is very gentle, which makes people have a strong desire to eat after smelling it.

“…Chef, is this soup base correct?”

"How can it be wrong? I followed that crappy menu and weighed them one by one using a scale!"

It was not difficult to find the materials written by Li in the palace, but the standards for their delivery made the chef suffer.

For some large doses of spices, Li wrote down the number of grams in detail, but for some small amounts of spices, Li just wrote down such strange quantity words as "a little", "an appropriate amount", and "a pinch".

"Chef, I'm not doubting you. I'm doubting the person who wrote the menu. What if there's something wrong with the soup?"

After the waiter reminded him again and again, the chef finally reacted.

Everyone in the kitchen gathered in front of the soup pot and stared at the boiling soup.

Suck~

After everyone took a deep breath, they all showed an intoxicated expression.

"This is horrible! This soup could be an unknown psychedelic drug!"

They looked at each other and made a decision together.

"Who comes first?"

The chef was holding a small soup bowl, and so were the others.

There was a mouthful of fish soup in the soup bowl. Everyone looked at each other and poured the soup in the bowl into their mouths.

Smash it! Smash it!

"…How is it? Did you detect the poison?"

"I can't taste it. Do you want to try it again?"

Half an hour later, only a little bit of the fish soup that had been simmering for half a day was left at the bottom of the pot.

While the chef and the attendant were enjoying the meal, they began to have a headache about how to remedy the situation.

"How about making a new pot?"

“…It’s too late!”

The chef added water to the pot according to his own understanding and threw in some beans and herbs.

After simmering for another ten minutes, the head chef scooped out the food, put it in a jar, and asked the attendant to serve it.

The attendant carried the dishes and hurried towards the king, but when he arrived at the door, he encountered an obstacle.

"stop!"

The cold voice startled the attendant. Fortunately, he had many years of professional training, otherwise the soup pot in his hand would have flown away.

The attendant almost forgot that there was someone waiting at the king's door.

The deputy commander of the Knights of Judgment, Lord Edward!

Just like what happened with Lian, the king took Edward to the door and left him there.

Fortunately, Edward was more independent-minded than Lian. He did not stand in front of the door waiting foolishly, but sat on the steps nearby early.

Night fell and a cold wind blew. Edward had been waiting for so long that his stomach was growling.

Seeing the attendant coming over with a bowl of soup, Edward called him fiercely.

Before the attendant could react, Edward snatched the bowl of soup away like a hungry wolf.

Tons, tons, tons!

As his attendants stared in astonishment, Edward quickly finished the midnight snack prepared for the king.

"Lord Edward! How could you do this! This is dinner prepared for the King!"

The attendant seemed horrified on the surface, but he was actually very happy.

Edward destroyed the evidence of everyone stealing food in the kitchen, so now the king's anger would not fall on him!

"Never mind me. I will explain it to the king myself!"

Who is Edward? He is the most temperamental soldier on the front line.

Many times, demons would avoid him when they saw him. He didn't even take a mere king seriously.

Under the dull gaze of the attendant, Edward pushed aside the guards blocking his way and kicked open the palace door.

"Stop him quickly!"

After entering the door, there is a short corridor where the king and Li play chess.

Edward strode forward, and several shadows appeared in the corner of the palace.

These shadows hidden in the palace were the secret guards arranged by the king. When they saw Edward rushing into the palace, they jumped out to stop him.

Someone hid his body as soon as he came up and tried to attack Edward from behind, but was knocked to the ground by Edward's backhand elbow.

A magician chanted a spell quickly at the lowest volume, creating a huge fire snake to attack Edward.

Edward burst out with holy light, forming a holy light shield all over his body, blocking all magical attacks.

Edward walked so fast that all the guards only had time to launch one attack.

Then, Edward walked to the door of the inner hall safely.

Edward held the jar in one hand and knocked on the door politely with the other.

"Hello, I'm Edward, I'm coming in!"

Edward had some manners, but not much.

When he pushed open the door and walked in, everyone in the courtyard widened their eyes.

They were waiting for the king's call. If Edward made any move to threaten the king, they would rush in to rescue him immediately.

However, after several breaths passed, no sound of fighting was heard from the inner hall.

After Edward went in, he closed the door behind him to block out the cold night wind outside.

When he turned around, he saw Lee and the old king sitting under the bright magic lamp.

The two men were confronting each other at opposite ends of the chessboard, and the old king was obviously dissatisfied with Li's layout.

Edward moved over and moved a cushion to sit on the ground.

"Sorry, I stole your midnight snack. This soup tastes good, burp~"

Edward raised the empty can and shook it twice in front of Lee and the old king.

After learning that there was no midnight snack at all, Li picked up the broken cake thrown aside with disgust and began to nibble on it.

Edward's sudden intrusion did not disturb the king, and the king's mind was still focused on the chessboard.

"No, how did you arrange the chess pieces? Why don't I have a bishop on my side?"

A new game of chess begins, and Li places the chess pieces himself.

Just as the King had previously withheld all of Lee's pawns, Lee also took the King's bishop pawn.

"Because the temple is not yours."

Lee's argument was so powerful that it nearly choked the king to death.

The king pointed at the two extra black bishops on Lee's side.

"Then why do you have a bishop here? You can't say that the Holy Church will support you!"

The old king shouted this very loudly, intending to provoke Edward's dissatisfaction with Lee.

However, Edward was just watching the fun and paid no attention to the hidden meaning in the verbal exchange between the two.

Li was very satisfied with Edward's style of doing things. A warrior should have a warrior's attitude, and Edward was very good at this.

"Your Majesty, I have the bishop chess piece here. It is because our Northland is loved by the goddess. It is written in the holy book that the goddess's holy light will care for every human being~"
