: Chapter 48
Dolores only heard about Angela's encounter during dinner.
But at this time, Angela had already lost her frustration, and grinned and snuggled up with Edwin who came over from the Ravenclaw table.
"Where have you been, I've been looking for you for a long time." Lily hurriedly greeted her when she saw her seated.
And she could only laugh a few times awkwardly and didn't answer. Where was she going to be other than in the Defence Against the Dark Arts office and chatting with Voldemort, whom she hadn't seen in a week?
"Edwin gave me a new dress." Angela said excitedly.
For the next half hour the girl smiled and recounted the beauty of the dress and how excited she was to go to the school dance with Edwin.
"So, your dance partner?" Dolores asked Lily with a malicious smile when Angela was drinking water to rest.
"It's James, of course," Lily replied quietly. "He invited me long in advance."
"In other words, on Christmas Eve, everyone will know that Potter finally caught the Gryffindor Flower," Dolores still grinned, "although it will be a lifetime memory for someone. Christmas present."
Lily felt that she meant something, but she was used to Dolores's mysterious way of speaking. She didn't go into it and asked instead, "What about you? Have you decided who you want to go to the dance with?"
Dolores pouted and shook his head.
In fact, some boys tried to invite her, although they were the same people who had gone after her after hearing that her uncle was a wealthy arms dealer.
"I saw that you rejected several boys, let me guess," Lily then gave a meaningful smile, and she deliberately lengthened her voice, "—Professor Voldemort?"
Lily, or all of her friends, didn't believe she could resist Voldemort's pursuit, and in fact, to some extent, they were right.
"He hasn't asked me yet," Dolores replied flatly, though the drooping corners of his mouth still betrayed her displeasure.
The clever Lily certainly did not miss this unpleasantness, "He will definitely invite you." She comforted.
Dolores' noncommittal attitude towards Lily was not because she suspected that Voldemort was not planning to be her dance partner, but rather that the control freak would definitely go to the dance with her, leaving her with no chance of accepting any other boy's invitation.
What she questioned was that Voldemort didn't actually invite her formally, but took it for granted.
He didn't even ask what color dress she would wear! Even Edwin knew to wear the same shade as Angela!
Dolores kicked the armor placed at the corner of the hallway angrily, the armor let out a grievance and wailed, and then stopped tremblingly under her stare.
"Tom! Tom!" came a familiar voice down the hall, it was Slughorn. Dolores subconsciously ducked aside.
"What?" The impatient voice was familiar, too, from her dear husband, Voldemort.
"Someone, someone broke into my office!" Slughorn's voice was very flustered. "I think something is wrong!"
"I've always thought you were a little paranoid, Horace," Voldemort said, still in a bad tone. "Who would go to great lengths to harm a lowly potions professor?"
"I-I have proof!" Apparently catching up with Voldemort made him gasp. "My African tree snake bark is all gone!"
Voldemort stopped. "Maybe it's just a few mischievous students, Horace. You can't expect me to help you find potion thieves while I'm busy hosting the minister."
Slughorn realized that this would be the end of the conversation, and murmured down the hallway.
"Come out," Voldemort said lazily after confirming that Slughorn had left.
Dolores reluctantly came out of the wall where he was hiding. "How did you know I was here?"
"Everyone except that old man Slughorn sees you clumsily hiding here." He sneered.
She opened her mouth to refute, but couldn't find any words for a while, so she turned her head to the side angrily.
And Voldemort took her hand and said softly, "I've been very busy lately, be yourself."
"You didn't tell me anything, and you still want me to listen to you?" If Dumbledore hadn't revealed a little bit of information to her, she would have been really confused by the illusion of peace and prosperity now.
"It's beyond your purview, you're a student now," he said. "If you had allowed me to use that rock, you might have known more now."
The stone he was talking about was the Infinity Stone they brought from that parallel future - the Reality Stone. This stone contains the power of ether, and all scientific codes and laws of nature are meaningless before it. In other words, Dolores has the ability to modify reality without paying any price.
Dolores guessed that he was annoyed that no one but himself could use it, or even touch it.
She and Dumbledore shared the same opinion in this regard - Voldemort's actions need to be policed, even though he doesn't seem to be an extreme racist anymore.
It was also the only task Dumbledore had given her: overseeing Voldemort. And it was obvious that only she was capable of completing this task.
Her refusal to use the Reality Stone had infuriated Voldemort, who saw her as a stupid little girl, lucky enough to have the ability to become a god, but shelved this precious gift.
Fortunately, he quickly dismissed this idea, and probably realized that this power would make everything easy and boring, so he quickly threw himself into other complicated and interesting plans.
Dolores didn't want to mention the Reality Gem anymore, so he changed the subject: "What the **** is going on with Vanessa Plimell?"
"What? Did she embarrass you?"
"That's not true," she smiled. "I just think she's a little too arrogant."
Voldemort remembered that Vanessa's son and his fiancée were among her friends, and immediately understood: "Looks like Miss Brown isn't getting along well with her?"
"Does she really get along well with anyone?" She was very young when she left the British wizarding world, and because of Joshua's relationship, she rarely socialized, and her impression of Vanessa was based on hearsay.
"Of course, she's no devil. In addition to our current minister, Mrs. Millison, she has a close friend," Voldemort paused. "You're also familiar with this person. Her name is Karen Rice. Trange."
On the third day of the Ministry official's visit, Vanessa's past stories began to appear in everyone's conversations, and the stories circulated fairly quickly, and by the end of the night, almost most of the students were able to tell them vividly.
Her husband, Mr. Plimle, died very early, when their son Edwin, a pureblood who had always been ailing, died of illness when he was five years old.
But no one sympathized with the young widow soon after, as a rumour rose that it was Vanessa who killed Mr. Plimle herself.
This rumor sounds absurd, but when people see the newly mourned Mrs. Vanessa, they start to waver again - this woman never wore black mourning clothes after the funeral, she danced and drank recklessly, her face from the face There was never a trace of sadness and vulnerability.
Most women grieve the death of their husbands, but for Vanessa Plymle, oddly enough, it was a rebirth.
