New Gods of North America
arrest
The chain on the private clinic's front door was kicked open, the door slamming inward with force.
Wayne managed to dodge the initial attack, and several people rushed inside, with more exorcists quickly gathering around.
Having dealt with the Church's exorcists quite a bit, it's easy to see that they have different specializations. Some are better at 'hitting people,' while others are better at 'hitting ghosts.'
But generally, their expertise lies in dealing with strange evil spirits and supernatural beings, not with ordinary 'armed thugs.' So, facing someone whose abilities are close to 'firearms,' they were a bit out of their element.
Inside, Anton Chigurh tossed out another 'light point' and quickly retreated deeper into the clinic. One of the exorcists beside Wayne took a 'shot' for his comrade, grunting in pain and becoming the first casualty. Luckily, it didn't hit a vital area.
Seriously, man, you're supposed to 'dodge' bullets. How many can a normal person 'block'?
At least try to pull him out of the way...
Wayne couldn't worry about that too much. Activating his Simple Lines vision, he chased after Chigurh, firing two shots. The sparks from the bullets chased after the man's backside.
Sanders and his ever-present follower, who quickly caught up, seemed more suited to dealing with 'low-end thugs.' Sanders had already pulled his lever-action rifle from under his coat, ready to provide suppressing fire.
Entering the clinic, Wayne quickly scanned the layout, getting a feel for the 'map.' He signaled for the others to guard the perimeter, especially to watch for anyone jumping out of windows. Not too many people needed to enter, to avoid friendly fire.
The clinic was converted from a street-facing shop, not very large. It probably served ordinary citizens as well.
Inside was a waiting area with benches, and a table. It seemed relatively spacious; initial treatments or simple wound care might be performed here.
Further down the hallway was a more private examination room with a bed. It seemed that most of the clinic's ground floor was used up to this point. The remaining space was likely for a pharmacy, storage room, and stairs.
Wayne had previously noted that the building this row of shops was in was a 'back-to-back' terraced structure. This private clinic wasn't on the end, so it seemed the only exit was the front.
There was a person who looked like a doctor lying dead in the corner of the examination room. It didn't seem like this was a pre-planned 'hideout.'
If this was a temporary resting spot, there shouldn't be a 'back door.' That's why he told the others not to crowd in, in case the guy jumped from the second floor and ran.
Following the figure to the end of the hallway, Wayne took off his hat and tossed it around the corner.
A 'light point' immediately flew out, abruptly changing the hat's trajectory in mid-air.
Wayne then half-squatted and 'braked' as he slid past the wall, exposing half his body.
Spotting the figure, he fired two more shots towards the stairwell.
The figure didn't linger after firing the 'light point.' It seemed this supernatural ability didn't have good 'rapid-fire performance,' at least not as fast as Wayne.
But the interval between 'light points' wasn't long. Wayne quickly imagined it as a special type of revolver, with much faster bullet speeds, but otherwise similar performance.
If it's a 'firearm,' maybe it also has a 'magazine capacity'...
Wayne didn't have time to think too much. He bent down, picked up his hat, and continued towards the stairs. Before entering the stairwell, he tossed his hat again, and a 'light point' launched a 'meteor strike' from above.
Heh, amateur.
Experienced gamers crawled out of the 'stairway kill' pit of corpses. This trick is outdated.
Wayne tried to keep out of the line of sight as he fired back, while Sanders, who had arrived behind him, turned his back, stood at the entrance to the stairs with a lever-action rifle, and unleashed suppressing fire at the upper part of the stairwell.
Then 'Discord' who was chasing after them snapped his fingers, causing what sounded like thunder to echo on the ceiling. Using this opportunity, he rushed to the corner of the stairs at the 'half-floor' position.
Wayne continued to move forward to fill the gap, quickly ejecting the spent cartridges and loading demon-hunter bullets into his gun.
The 'group assault' that the detective agency taught in class was now undergoing its first real-world test under Wayne's observation.
'Discord' guarded the corner, Sanders and 'Airflow' advanced in staggered movements, and Wayne took the opportunity to fill the gap. It looked quite professional.
Wait,
It was understandable that the exorcists weren't rushing to the front lines, since they were from a 'sister unit' with different areas of expertise.
But wasn't that follower right behind Sanders? Why was he slacking off?
Wayne didn't have time to worry about him. There was no one in the second-floor hallway, but there were three doors, two closed and one ajar.
The layout of the second floor should be similar to the first floor. Wayne strained his ears, but didn't hear any movement from the street, so he guessed the person hadn't jumped out the window.
The streetscape wasn't as uniform as in later years. This row of shops was actually made up of several 'buildings' connected side-by-side, with different floor heights.
This private clinic appeared to have three floors from the outside. The second floor was lit, while the third floor seemed dark.
'Airflow' and 'Discord' coordinated their supernatural abilities, causing wind and noise to erupt in a brightly lit room. At the same time, Sanders poked the barrel of his gun in the doorway.
This seemed to be the doctor's living quarters, similar to a 'living room,' where ordinary people would entertain guests and relax.
There was no one in the living room, but there were many medicines and bandages piled on a small table next to the sofa, indicating that the figure had been healing there.
Wayne was in the hallway providing rear cover. 'Airflow' and 'Discord' advanced in staggered movements under Sanders's gun cover. The living room was indeed empty, and the balcony was also empty.
Then the three switched positions and checked the next room. With the faint light of the streetlights outside, this appeared to be a dining room and kitchen.
Finally, there was only one closed door left on the second floor. This corresponded to the storage room on the first floor, so it should be a small room.
Sanders, the strongman, used his strength to slam the lock, breaking off a piece of the door.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"He's over there!"
As soon as the noise rang out, Wayne turned his head and saw a figure jump from the third floor to the stairs, then jump down again over the railing.
Wayne and the figure made eye contact in mid-air, and they both opened fire on each other.
The figure was protecting his head and couldn't aim well. While dodging the 'light points,' Wayne chose to shoot at the body. An agent next to him turned around and also landed a shot. The figure, wounded, continued to flee downwards using momentum.
There should be several people on the first floor now. The noise quickly grew louder, with gunshots, shouts, cries of pain, and the sound of objects being smashed intermingling into a chaotic din.
'Airflow' and 'Discord' flew downstairs to chase after him, while Wayne ran to the living room next door.
Rushing to the balcony railing, he looked down.
Good heavens,
What kind of firepower is this?
The guy was swinging his arms, and every flick of his fingers shot out 'light points.' He was practically wielding a supernatural shotgun, mowing down everything. You could see a formed 'bullet screen' scattering across the street.
Seeing that the figure was about to reach the carriage and seize the reins, Wayne was about to 'raise his gun and shoot' out of reflex.
But realizing that witnesses were becoming rare, he wanted to interrogate anyone who could still breathe before sending them to the gallows.
In desperation, Wayne winked at Sanders, who had followed him, and gestured. Then Wayne was quickly lifted up by Sanders, whose clothes instantly tightened, and 'smashed' forward.
Hey, hey, this isn't the right pose!
Wayne wanted to strike a cool 'flying kick' pose to deliver 'justice from above,' but he ended up flying headfirst, belly down.
In mid-air, Wayne could only straighten his arms and push the revolver forward, using the hard object as the 'impact point.'
In a state of acceleration overload, Wayne seemed to hear nothing. Just as he adjusted his posture, he crashed straight into him.
Anton Chigurh, who had just sat down on the carriage, hadn't had time to settle in when Wayne slammed him off the side of the carriage. The two even slid along the road for a distance before the man below hit a lamppost with his head.
Lights were now on in many of the houses on both sides of the street, having been awakened by the commotion.
Wayne heard a little girl's childish voice asking from the nearby upstairs, "Mommy, did you see that? Why was that person flying?"
Seeing that the guy under him was unconscious but still breathing, Wayne braced himself against the feeling of his body falling apart and quickly got up.
Looking up, he tried to maintain his image. "Because I am Super man!"
