Chapter 15 – I’m Really a Good Person (2)

A few days later…

“Young lady, didn’t you train us to be your personal hired men? Why do we have to learn to write?” Ye Xiaolang asked gloomily. He was a child who hated reading.

It’s been a few days since he had been under Ye Mu’s wings and Ye Xiaolang had surprisingly found that under the “ferocious” so-called disposition of Ye Mu, she was actually quite approachable. Therefore, his courage to be laxer around her grew day by day.

Ye Mu snorted, and said pompously in front of everyone within earshot:

“Fool! How can the personal killers of this Young lady be illiterate like dogs wagging their tails, who can’t even read simple characters?! It’s embarrassing to even think of taking you out with me! If you want to be trained but feel like studying is no good—don’t even think for one second that I won’t whip you!”

As soon as the maid standing next to her heard that the Young lady, who had been peaceful for a few days, was going to whip people again, her expression distorted, silently looking at Ye Xiaolang with a cry for help.

But Ye Xiaolang knew that Ye Mu’s words were all bark and no bite. With a small smile on his face, he replied, “Well, since it was ordered by the Young lady, Ye Xiaolang will certainly study hard!”

Ye Mu nodded, satisfied and then looked at Mo Linyuan.

Mo Linyuan is actually[JV1] literate, but he had escaped from the Mo Country’s Imperial Palace at the age of six, which means he has not been exposed to the systematic education for a long time, therefore there were gaps in learning that had to be filled.

In the current era, learning to write and read can only be considered a luxury for well-off family, so he cannot understand why Ye Mu would let them have this expensive treat.

When he saw Ye Mu looking at him and Ye Xiaolang, he nodded, “I will also study hard.”

After all, to be able to have the privilege of education as his current status as a slave is already considered a miracle. He absolutely would not give this opportunity up.

Seeing the two of them cooperating well, Ye Mu signaled to the people on her side to go out and call in the teachers she had hired as private tutors.

There two men, both young and old. She said to the teacher with a beard “You, teach him starting with Three Character Classic**.” She pointed to Ye Xiaolang

**T/N: Three Character Classic, 13th century reading primer consisting of Confucian tenets in lines of 3 characters

Then she said to other teacher left, “You, start teaching him the National Policy.”

Ye Xiaolang was incredulous when he heard this. His childish ego was angry and jealous. When he saw that others had something he didn’t have, he yearned for it. He impatiently asked, “Young lady, why do I have to learn differently from him?”

Ye Mu patted him on the shoulder and said earnestly, “As you can see he’s so thin that he might possibly take the profession of a scholar in the future. How can he compare with you, who can be both a fine scholar and military man?”

With this rousing speech, Ye Xiaolang swept his eyes over at Mo Linyuan’s body then nodded vigorously! So the young lady originally values him more?

He immediately said, “Don’t worry Young lady, I will protect him in the future!”

“En. Good!”

Mo Linyuan was listening on one side.

The child in him who had almost vanished also made its appearance. A scholar trained in martial arts? Is she sure it’s not just a simpleton with a set of developed limbs?

To conclude, until Mo Linyuan’s wound was healed, Ye Mu gave them text lessons first.

When Mo Linyuan’s wounds were almost healed and it was alright for him to move without affecting it, Ye Mu begun to drill them according to her training regimen.

Where, the first part of the martial arts training required them to master the horse stance**.

**T/N: The stance is shown in the image below.

In order not to show too much concern, Ye Mu left for her room to sleep and ordered a servant girl to look after them. Who knew that only after a while, she would hear Ye Xiaolang’s angry voice resound from outside?

“What are you doing? He’s not well yet!”

The servant girl guarding them sneered scornfully, “The Young lady said that an hour is an hour, and an hour hasn’t passed yet. Why are you pretending as if you’re already on the verge of death? Get up quickly!”

Hearing the incident taking place, Ye Mu instantly ran out to see Mo Linyuan’s pale face as was he lifted from the ground by Ye Xiaolang. On his arm was a bleeding fresh wound from being whipped by a barbed whip.
