Chin rested on one arm, Jiang Qianxue was operating the mouse with her other hand and browsing through web pages, feeling bored. Her Persian cat, Snow Ball, was lying on her lap for a nap.
She had been sitting in front of the computer for an hour and had skimmed several times through the cuisine and travel section of Wang Haige, but she still couldn’t find any new place worth visiting. This was quite normal, for Snowy had high requirements for the locations for her live broadcasting. .She wouldn’t settle for any mediocre places. Besides, Binhai City was not a large city where novel and interesting shops could keep springing up.
Under the keyboard was a piece of paper written with a few lines of advice provided by the netizens, among which many lines had been crossed off. This meant that Snowy had paid visits to these shops, but they had failed to meet her standards as live broadcasting sites. The netizens had been urging her for an update — anything would do, even cleaning Snow Ball’s feces seemed viable to them.
She released her hand from the mouse, and used her finger to help check the items listed on the paper, and stopped at a shop named "Back to the Old Days", which had also been suggested by the netizens. She couldn't figure out what the shop consisted of at the beginning, but after a reminder by the netizens, she realized it was a place that specialized in selling second-hand goods, some of which were not available on the market anymore, so the products in that shop were quite expensive.
Honestly, that shop was the best choice as of now. Snowy knew that, but she just didn't have any interest in buying second-hand products. She had hosted a live broadcast in a used bookstore before, but used books and other second-hand goods were different in nature.
Besides, staying at home was really boring, with her mother keep complaining about her. After struggling for quite a while, Snowy decided she should go visit the shop.
"Snow Ball, stay at home and be good, I need to go out now." She picked up Snow Ball from her lap and put it on the bed, then used her fists to beat at her thighs, which had become numb from Snow Ball’s weight. Snow Ball had been gaining weight very quickly recently. It was not a kitten like it was when she bought it anymore, but instead was more like a fully-grown big cat.
"Meow!" Snow Ball approached her. It seemed like it wanted to go out too.
"Snow Ball, stay at home. Your fur will get dirty outside, and the pet shop hasn’t reopened for business yet, so they can't give you a bath. Perhaps another day, okay?" Snowy affectionately touched Snow Ball’s forehead.
She put on a thick down jacket, a pair of gloves and plush hat to shield herself from the chilliness, brought her must-have cell phone and purse, and left the bedroom.
Knowing that her father was not home, Snowy didn’t need to sneak out anymore. She walked past her mother, who was making a phone call in the living room.
"Where are you going? It's so cold outside," asked her mother, putting down the phone.
"Just going out for a walk. It's so boring staying at home." Snowy waved to her mother, "Mom, you should also go out for a walk. Don't just sit at home, go dancing with the neighbors or something."
"Are you lecturing me?" HYer mother was annoyed and amused, "You think I am still a wild child as you? You will get a cold easily if you go out in this weather! Let me tell you, if you are sick, don't complain to me."
"Relax, I won't get a cold. Look what I’m wearing." Snowy patted her down jacket, "See you later, Mom."
Before her mother said another word, Snowy had pulled the door open and ran outside.
"You... What a wild girl!" Her mother hit the table angrily and picked up the phone again, "Hello, where were we?"
Snowy hummed the melody she made for herself and walked jauntily towards the entrance of the villa district.
Covering a spacious area, this luxury villa district was extremely quiet. The artificial lake in the center of the district was filled with withered yellow leaves, making the lake look like a field of wheat when the wind blew.
Usually, she could run into a few seniors taking a walk in the district. But since winter had arrived, it seemed that everyone had been hiding inside their homes. Even when they needed to go out, they would choose to drive their fancy cars instead of walking. There were very few youths living in this district, not to mention youths the same age as Snowy. Most of the residents were middle-aged, such as her father. As for the presumptuous and bullying young people born with silver spoons in their mouths...perhaps they were in this district, but she had never met one before.
Such melancholy was soon dispelled by Snowy’s optimistic and cheerful characteristics. She knew that as long as she left the villa district and entered the real world outside, the scenes would not appear bleak, and she wouldn’t feel lonely anymore.
Besides, she didn't hate winter, because her birthday was in the winter. When her birthday approached, she would receive lots of gifts, and her parents would stop nagging her so that she could enjoy a few quiet days without their complaints. It would be even better if it could snow! She would build rows of snowmen in front of her house like they were her exclusive guards, and she had been doing that every winter.
Beep! Beep!
Just when she was fully immersed in her thoughts, a car was blasting the horn behind her. She turned around and saw a Mercedes-Benz limousine . Since there were few pedestrians on the street, she had been walking away from the sidewalk absentmindedly and had unintentionally blocked the way of the limousine.
Snowy walked back on the sidewalk, and curiously stared at the black rear window of the limousine, wondering which neighbor was inside—the license plate number was strange to her, and she didn't remember ever seeing it in this district before. The tinted windows were perfect for keeping the privacy of the people inside. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t see a thing in there.
Although she had cleared the way, the Mercedes-Benz limousine didn’t speed up; instead, it was moving slowly by her side.
The car window winded down. Before she could see clearly who was inside, she heard barking, and then a dog stretched out its head, winking and making grimace face at her.
"Hey, isn't this Good-for-Nothing?" said Snowy surprisingly.
She often saw Uncle Jin walk his dog in this neighborhood, so she was close to this Husky named Good-for-Nothing. Besides, there was only one Husky in this district, so she would never mistake it for other dogs.
Snow Ball and Good-for-Nothing didn’t get along well. They would fight every time they met. But usually, Snow Ball was the one chasing and punching Good-for-Nothing… Don't be fooled by Good-for-Nothing’s large size, it was actually a dork!
A moment later, she pointed to Good-for-Nothing and laughed, "Good-for-Nothing, what the hell is on your neck?"
A strange thing was surrounding the Husky’s neck, as if a dog's head was sticking out from the middle of a sunflower. The Husky’s appearance was already very stupid, and this thing made it look even more stupid!
Good-for-Nothing extended its head out of the window to look around. That awful Persian cat was not around, but there was still a light smell of it somewhere. Just when it was about to cheer up, Snowy’s words hit its sensitive nerves. It lowered its head and looked at her with grievance.
Snowy felt so amused that she had completely ignored Good-for-Nothing’s feelings.
After laughing for a while, she realized that, if Good-for-Nothing was in the car, then Uncle Jin should also be in the car.
"Is Uncle Jin in there?" she said to the dark car.
An arm stretched out and pushed aside the head of Good-for-Nothing. Jin Er squeezed his head out of the car window and greeted her, "Hello Snowy, just when I think you had forgotten me."
It was really funny that a man and his dog were putting their heads together and looking at her.
"Good morning, Uncle Jin." Snowy politely greeted him, but then confusion arose.
"Uncle Jin, are you attending some serious matters today?" asked Snowy curiously.
Jin Er startled, "Why do you ask? Are you saying what I usually do is not serious enough?"
"Because you are not driving, It's the first time I’ve ever seen you in a passenger seat." Snowy bit her lips and didn't answer his second question. The answer was self-evident. Her father, Jiang Qianda, had been saying that Jin Er was wasting his time in his habits, and that his company would be doomed sooner or later, although Jin Er didn’t worry about that at all.
"Oh, that..." Jin Er signed, "It's a long story. Simply put, I was racing in my car in the city a few days ago, and then my driving license got suspended!"
