Chapter 58

There was a time when Eyjafjallah had given up hope.

She no longer desires to see the colors of this world, listen to the voices of this world, as early as when she joined Rhodes Island, she already knew her future destiny.

By then her hearing was already failing, and though the process was suppressed by the Rhode Island medical department, it could not be reversed until her eyesight also began to fail.

Afterwards, Eyjafala began to need the help of equipment to have a normal conversation with other people. If she had already prepared for this, whenever she saw that person's figure getting blurred and his voice becoming more hazy, Eyjafala would smile , hide the sadness in the bottom of my heart.

She would borrow notes and materials from him in the name of reading, and call him frequently, just to get his response.

Until she can no longer read books and can only let him read to her.

At least before her own growth stopped, she wanted to take another look at his appearance, whether it was wearing a mask or the familiar and reassuring black coat.

Unfortunately, this is no longer possible.

"Don't worry about me, senior, I have little black sheep to accompany me." Aiyafala looked at the blurred figure in front of him, showing a soft smile. "Go and do your own thing, I'm fine."

The figure in front of him seemed to nod his head, but even though Eyjafala's beautiful eyes widened, he couldn't see clearly. He seemed to say something. Eyjafala listened carefully, but he could only hear a few words.

"--Take care of yourself."

When hearing this word, Eyjafala curled the corner of his mouth, his pretty face with his favorite smile.

"Goodbye, senior."

After he left, Aiyafala was still watching hard, looking for his back.

Didn't seem to see that he had gone out of the room.

And after that day, Eyjafala never saw the senior again, nor heard his voice.

A few days later, according to the notice from the medical department, due to the deepening of the ore disease infection, it was confirmed that operator Aiyafala lost all vision and all hearing.

In the endless darkness and silence, Eyjafala lay on the hospital bed, recalling that familiar figure over and over again, missing all the pictures and sounds of the past in the spreading ore disease infection.

If I left, would I be able to see my deceased parents? As a scholar of volcanology, Eyjafjallah first had such unfounded expectations.

If I leave, will the seniors be sad?

As a young girl, Eyjafala also felt some kind of reluctance for the first time, and worried about her seniors who worked hard day and night.

Occasionally, Eyjafjallah could feel a hand holding her fingertips before losing consciousness completely.

"Senior, if you don't mind, I'll give you my little black sheep. Although they like to sleep, they can help carry some books and other things occasionally. They are very obedient." Eyjafala struggled to organize his words, " Also, remember to wear heat-resistant gloves when petting them~."

Aiyafala could feel the hand holding her fingertips stunned for a while, then gently grasped her fingertips to express understanding.

Although there is still a lot to say, Eyjafala no longer knows what to say.

She could only hold his fingers tightly, before she lost all consciousness.

After spending an unknown amount of time in the endless darkness, Eyjafala couldn't tell the difference between day and night, whether she was awake or in a dream. Apart from vision and hearing, her other senses were also declining until her consciousness had lost its meaning.

Whether waking up or sleeping, her world is dark and dead.

However, Aiyafala failed to see her parents after all, because she survived by luck.

When Ayjafjallah perceived the world again, it was on the grass in Rhode Island Central Park.

When she just took off the bandage in front of her eyes, Eyjafala felt a little dazzling, her beautiful eyelashes fluttered, and after adapting to the light that dispelled the darkness, Eyjafala slowly raised her eyelids to welcome the picture that came into view.

Stars that haven't been seen for many years began to appear in the black sky, and the clouds floating in the sky were dyed a red glow by the setting sun. Eyjafala could see the outline of every cloud.

When I lower my head, the forest in the distance is so lush, and the green grass under my feet is so gentle.

She could hear the sound of the wind, the rustling of the leaves swaying with the wind, the conversation and laughter of people in the distance.

She stared blankly with bright eyes, looking at everything in front of her eyes, listening to the sounds around her, until the tears flowed down uncontrollably.

When tears blurred her vision, a hand holding a handkerchief stretched out in front of her, gently wiping her tears away.

A familiar and clear voice sounded beside him.

"Welcome back, Ayjafjallah."

Eyjafala lowered her head and let the people around her wipe away her tears. Then she mustered up her courage, turned her head slowly, and looked at the very familiar figure beside her.

She looked at the figure that could only appear in her sleep.

After a long silence, the girl's voice trembled a little, showing a soft smile suitable for her age.

"Well, I'm back, senior~."

The doctor looked at the smiling and tearful girl in front of him, and just stroked her soft curly hair, making her see that she was not dreaming, and that everything in front of her was real.

Accompanied by Eyjafala in a wheelchair, the two enjoyed the ordinary and precious sunset scenery for Rhode Island on the grass in Central Park of Rhode Island.

After recovering from the ore disease, Eyjafala continued her volcanology research, and with the help of various new equipment, completely eliminated the possibility of re-infection with the ore disease.
