The CMOS image sensor has the same basic principle as the CCD sensor. All use photosensitive elements as the basic means of image capture, and the core is a photosensitive diode (photodiode), which converts changes in light intensity into electrical signals.

The CMOS process is different. Each pixel has an independent signal processing unit, and the optical signal is directly converted into a digital signal. The processing of digital signals is much simpler than that of analog signals, and the power consumption of the chip is greatly reduced.

Subsequent analog-to-digital conversion and other auxiliary circuits are no longer needed, and the complexity of the solution is greatly reduced.

As long as the process is improved, the pixel density will naturally increase, and the cost will be reduced accordingly.

Of course, the CMOS process is not without its shortcomings.

In order to integrate the amplifier and analog-to-digital conversion circuit, each image point is composed of a photosensitive diode and three transistors. Compared with the CCD, the effective area of ​​the photosensitive diode is greatly reduced, and the light sensitivity is reduced.

Because the magnification of each pixel is not synchronized, it causes noise. Due to the high level of integration, the components are relatively close together, and additional noises are also caused. All these problems need to be solved step by step.
