Reborn As a Pirate

Four hundred and three great victories of the laborers

December 25th, Christmas.

During the Christmas holidays in previous years, the Drake Chamber of Commerce would often adjust the sailing schedule and deploy personnel one month in advance, so as to ensure that every employee could reunite with their families as much as possible.

In Lorraine's view, this belongs to the creation of corporate culture. Of course, it is more about the consideration of operating costs and talent retention.

As the chamber grew, Lorraine devoted a lot of energy to thinking about the mental state of his employees.

He needs his employees to work 12 to 16 hours a day, six and a half days a week, pay no higher than the market average, be in a good mood, and have a sense of belonging and identification with the chamber of commerce.

It's not easy.

After all, the Drake Chamber of Commerce is now a big business. There are three shipyards under its name, nearly 400 exchanges, more than 200 independent warehouses, and a total of more than 600 large and small merchant ships.

He also has 14 manors, 1 castle, 4 exclusive wharves above the scale, 3 pieces of private land with [island] as the unit, 27 junior schools, 4 intermediate schools and 1 senior school.

Excluding sailors, laborers, and craftsmen employed temporarily, servants and housekeepers serving private individuals, slaves regarded as property, and long-term workers who have signed a contract of sale and are no different from slaves, the total number of employees of the Chamber of Commerce reached 9,966 in early 1784, of which There are 2,309 long-term sailors, 575 managers, and 42 partners.

Labor unions formed spontaneously.

The first union was born in free Boston.

In June 1782, a ship fluid designer named Danny Hoffman thought that [providing hot tea instead of coffee in the pantry is an insult to the designer's profession], he called 8 fellows, in Weiss Gus Café established the [Back Bay No Tea Union].

Half a month later, his camp enemy, Heite's secretary, and sail designer Smile Soloust established the [Coffee to Death Union] with 13 founding members.

The two major labor unions had heated debates in the unfinished second first-class dock, No. 5 dock, which caused several bloody incidents of pecking each other, and successfully brought the lawsuit to the general meeting in March 1783 in the second year. In front of Carmen of the asset management company.

At that time, Carmen was busy cooperating with Lorraine to restart Kenway's relationship network, preparing to enter the American market in one go after the dust settled in Paris...

Coffee or tea?

She happily said that choosing drinks is the supreme authority given to designers by God, and even the king has no right to interfere.

Haight Shipyard must be held accountable for this disagreement, and the shipyard accounting office needs to work out a new pantry budget worth £5 11 shillings per month, providing coffee and tea for the designers to mix and drink.

The trade unions have won, a great victory, a victory for the workers!

[Back Bay No Tea Trade Union] and [Coffee to Death Trade Union] became famous. From March to July 1783, they expanded to 152 and 133 members respectively, organized 6 rallies, 2 strikes, and 42 Negotiations and struggles have been passed successively [Designers do not need to squeeze the stagecoach, the shipyard is equipped with shuttle buses], [Designers’ dormitories are replaced with new drafting tables and brighter kerosene lamps], [Designers should wear tuxedos to work], [No smoking in the dock, And set up a series of major resolutions such as free smoking areas.

These two unions where fathers and mothers married each other made capitalist Lorraine feel the crisis no less than that of pirates.

He knew that the promotion and control of the labor unions had become one of the most pressing issues before the chamber of commerce.

He played his trump card.

Acharin, who was widely sought after among sailors, Pierce, who was deeply loved among students, and Leonard, who was recognized and loved among clerks, began secretly agitating for unions and at the same time began to look for leaders.

The fall of 1783 became the trade union season for the Drake Chamber of Commerce. A total of 27 new unions were formed and more than 5,900 employees joined.

Lorraine controlled the three largest branches and the six most core branches. While striving to promote the establishment of the Federation of Trade Unions, it began to formulate trade union regulations and raise the authority of the controlled trade unions among employees.

Under his control, these nine trade unions have been at the forefront of the times in the struggle against capitalists, and have successively won 47 adjustments that are beneficial to employees, of which 6 are decided to be promoted by the Chamber of Commerce.

1. Employees have the freedom to arrange work and rest time freely, the original fixed weekly half-day holiday is cancelled, and employees enjoy one month and two free holidays with pay;

2. Employees have the responsibility to take care of their families. In principle, the daily working hours are no more than 14 hours, and they do not work overtime without reason. Overtime is voluntary and double remuneration is paid;

Third, employees have the right to be recognized, and their annual birthdays should be given an additional holiday of the same nature as Christmas, with pay;

4. Female employees have the freedom to bear children. Their first two children after marriage should be given 15 days of paid leave and a maximum of 30 days of unpaid leave. They cannot be dismissed during pregnancy; male employees have 15 days for their first child after marriage. paid paternity leave;

Fifth, long-term workers under the industry of the chamber of commerce should abolish the contract of prostitution, and let them freely choose their lives to show the difference from slaves;

Sixth, trade unions should be respected. Trade unions with more than 100 members and elected councils should have their own offices. Council members should have no less than 24 hours a month to serve members in the office with pay.

These six resolutions made the trade union controlled by Lorraine a leader among the employees, and trade unions have begun to move and merge with each other, and the opportunity to establish a general trade union has emerged.

Lorraine marked a vacant lot in Miami where six worker communities would be built, a Workers Plaza and the Drake General Union Building.

In the next stage, he plans to put the Federation of Trade Unions on the agenda and establish an independent budget, staffing and administrative allocation to support the Federation of Trade Unions' off-duty operations.

This is a big issue. The trade unions need to fight harder. They need to organize at least 4 strikes, 10 rallies in 1785, and 10 to 20 people will be expelled before Lorraine can barely agree.

Then, the Federation of Trade Unions can bring out the regulations on the operation of the trade union that have been discussed for a year and five months.

Employees affected by North American freedom will settle down happily, of course, that's another story.

At this stage, the controlled trade unions are no longer simply acting as a hindrance to capital operations. Lorraine and his partners have begun to learn to use them. They have made communication easier and made many things that were impossible or difficult to do before become a reality.

Today's Christmas overtime is a good case.

The General Flagship Seamen’s Union is one of the most robust unions in the entire chamber of commerce, with 517 members, including all sailors on board, part of the dockers at the special berths at Lucy Wharf, and some designers and shipwrights at Haight Boatman’s No. 1 Dock , the 12 members of the board of directors are basically the seamen on board, the best among the sailors who assist Lorraine and his team in commanding the whole ship.

Barto was originally their leader, but as Barto was promoted to a partner, it took them only two days to select a new leader, a deputy sailing chief named Adrey.

Lorraine told Barto when he set sail in Stavanger that the Valkyrie would be at sea this Christmas.

The trade union immediately played the role of a communication bridge, persuading every sailor to take the initiative to apply to give up the festival.

They fought for a special Christmas allowance of three pounds each for the sailors, and Keren was in charge of negotiating with Barto.

Karen is a good capitalist who really cares about the laborers. With a wave of his hand, he raised the allowance to five pounds...

The sailors rejoiced at the result, Lorraine declined to comment, and Carmen sneered.

Last night, the Christmas Eve buffet was held on board. Karen was forced to lie down three times by the sailors. He got up at night and fell into the sea from the side of the ship and broke his arm.

This result made the sailors rejoice, Lorraine declined to comment, and Carmen sneered.

But the mood of the sailors did show amazing health. Pierce said more than once that it is necessary to urgently form a special service formation seafarers union.

He received more than 80 petitions on Christmas, all of which, without exception, hoped that the fleet would find a nearby dock to dock. Even if Christmas Eve is missed, the sailors still want to spend Christmas on shore...

By the way, how long will it be at sea?

Pierce looked at Lorraine's back depressedly: Brother...Admiral, it's been 5 days...

Can't wait? Still can't hold back the sailors? Lorraine turned around with a smile.

Pierce's shoulders slumped all of a sudden: All of them, but mainly sailors, they don't want money...

That's why I told you very early on to see your identity as a capitalist. Prestige will not be useful forever, you will need workers to speak for you.

yes……

Seeing that Pierce had already realized something, Lorraine tapped him on the head.

In Cape Town, I disembarked Eddie, and the Sunflower carrying the captives was waiting for him at the pier. He will invite someone who is crucial to our next operation, and when he arrives, we can start .”

Before he finished speaking, the shouts from the ship's watch came down.

Admiral, Southwest Fleet Shadow, identify the Sunflower, and accept the application for enlistment.

Allowed to join. Lorraine simply replied, Let the Sunflower and Valkyrie meet.

Admiral's order, the Sunflower is on board, clear the starboard side within 10 minutes, and the stormtroopers are on standby, execute!
