Facing The Abyss (4)

Rothgarr raised an eyebrow: “Can you feel the pull of The Abyss?”

“Yes, it’s very obvious!” said Anna. “If I had wings, I’d probably fly towards it.”

Hearing this, Rothgarr tightly hugged Anna’s arm, frowned and said, “Hold tight, don’t let go.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t let go.” Anna looked at The Abyss that seemed to be floating on the ground, and asked, “What’s it like in The Abyss?”

Rothgarr also looked at The Abyss, and after a moment of silence: “It’s chaotic. There’s no up and down, no direction, no exit.”

Anna looked at him, raised her hand and touched his cheek: “You have come out of it.”

Rothgarr tightened his hold on Anna’s waist and hugged her closer. He kissed her lips lightly, and said in a low voice, “Yes, I’ve come out.”

Anna quickly put her arms around Rothgarr’s neck, kissed him back, and when he let go of her, she observed his expression and felt that she could ask again: “Were you inside already when you had a conscience?”

Perhaps it was because the warm and soft beauty in his arms reduced his fear of facing The Abyss, Rothgarr kissed her cheek lightly, and replied briefly: “Yes.”

Anna was a little tickled from his kiss. She dodged and continued to ask curiously: “Then did you look like a child when you came out, or what you look like now?”

“My appearance has never changed.” Rothgarr replied. Although Anna’s questions came at all angles, he didn’t hate it and was happy to answer her.

He used to feel disgusted when he saw Balan and Catherine attached at the hip, but when it was his turn, he found out that he really wanted to hold Anna all the time, and listen to her asking nonsense questions without getting annoyed.

Upon hearing this, Anna said pitifully: “You have been deprived of your childhood, how pitiful.”

Rothgarr looked at Anna with an inexplicable expression.

Anna turned her head and continued to look at The Abyss.

She couldn’t help but imagine what a young Rothgarr would have been like if he had had a childhood, and it was funny just thinking about it.

Looking at The Abyss that seemed to be breathing faintly, Anna asked: “You brought The Abyss tree seed, how are you going to try it?” She said and took out the crystal clear tree seed.

Rothgarr was now less concerned about Anna escaping, and so he didn’t mind letting her hold The Abyss tree seed. He was still desperate to get rid of The Abyss curse, but Anna had said that she could help him the next time the curse struck, and so he felt less urgent about lifting the curse.

“Hold it closer to The Abyss to see if there’s any change,” Rothgarr said. He had tried unsuccessfully before, and because there was no one to teach him what to do, he had to try various methods by himself.

Anna nodded. Anyway, they could only try any possible method and cross their fingers that it would work.

If she hadn’t seen the true appearance of The Abyss, she would’ve still thought that the curse of The Abyss might really be lifted, but after seeing its true appearance, she thought it was very unlikely. The Abyss seemed intangible and elusive, and that made it difficult to know where to even begin trying.

Rothgarr took Anna and flew forward for a while.

Anna held The Abyss tree seed in her hand and saw no change.

Rothgarr flew in more, but the tree seed still didn’t give a response.

Rothgarr didn’t say anything yet, but Anna comforted him and said, “I’ll help you think of other ways.”

Rothgarr wasn’t disappointed by the unresponsiveness of the Abyss tree seed. After all, he had been used to it for thousands of years, but he loved hearing Anna reassure him.

“I’ll hold you to your word.”

But at this moment, Anna saw a shadow flying in the air from another direction, and when she saw the figure clearly, she was startled.

“Anna?” Rothgarr noticed Anna’s strangeness and followed her gaze.

The figure over there also noticed them and turned his head.

It was Aosta.

Rothgarr held Anna tightly, feeling the tension in Ana’s body almost immediately.

He remembered that Anna had almost died at the hands of Aosta.

He barely made it in time to save Anna.

When Anna was severely injured by Aosta, although Rothgarr was angry, he was not so angry that he lost his mind, because at that time he did not really realize his feelings for Anna.

But now, seeing Aosta again, and feeling Anna’s strangeness in the face of Aosta—he believed it was fear—he suddenly felt that it was time for the five Grand Dukes of The Abyss to become four.

The relationship between Rothgarr and Aosta had been hostile for thousands of years, but they were all Grand Dukes of The Abyss, and no one could really do anything to each other. He also disdained letting Balan join him in besieging Aosta, so their hostile relationship had continued until now.

Rothgarr hugged Anna and slowly landed. He held Anna’s cheek and said to her: “Wait here for me. I will make him unable to hurt you again in the future.”
