[Zongmeiying] Soul Mate
Chapter 12 The Story of Alexander the Great
The days of running around and being frightened succeeded in causing her to catch a cold, the doctor brought in by Jaina solemnly announced.
After the meal, Elizabeth lay dizzily on an outrageously soft and gorgeous big bed. The heavy curtains were lowered on three sides. In this small corner, the lights were dim and charming.
There are beautiful cushions throughout the room, the dresser is propped against the head of the bed, the coffee table and matching chair are strategically placed, and the wall facing the bed leads to a huge walk-in closet.I can't even find an air-conditioning vent in this room, but I can clearly feel that I am in an optimum temperature.
This is a great design work, which well integrates the sense of history with modern refinement and convenience, making Elizabeth very eager to get the designer's business card.
"Is there anything else you want?" Caius changed into a pure white embroidered gold casual clothes, sitting on the edge of the bed, his exquisite face was as handsome as a god.
"A glass of water, perhaps," whispered Elizabeth, and he quickly brought out a fine goblet.
"Your breath is burning," Caius helped her up worriedly.
"I've taken the medicine, and I'll be fine soon." Elizabeth said with relief, and she lay down again.
"Aro has dispatched our best guards and allies. No matter how troublesome Cordelia's entourage is this time, I will wipe them out of the dirt one by one. After that, I will burn them with my own hands in front of your eyes." Drop her bones." Caius' tone became flat and mean.
"I am very grateful." Elizabeth said sincerely.
"You don't need to thank me, you never need to." Caius' tone was not gentle, but very solemn. His eyes told her that he would always protect her, which reassured her immensely.
The grandfather who loved her the most was old, and Elizabeth was afraid that she would never get someone she could trust and rely on unconditionally, but now, she got him.
They just stared at each other in silence, the warm and sweet air flowed silently, and Elizabeth felt the evil side of her heart begin to emerge.
"I don't want to get up today." She stretched, "I also don't want to look up at you, lie down and accompany me." Elizabeth patted the cushion beside her, "Please" she said pretending to beg.
Caius leaned hesitantly on the pillow beside Elizabeth, his movements were somewhat restrained, but still very elegant.
"Lie down now," he said, as if coaxing a grumpy child, "your heart is beating fast and you need to rest."
Elizabeth lay down contentedly, and they looked at each other, she was too excited to sleep now, so she couldn't help counting his eyelashes.
"Talk to me" she demanded after a while.
"What do you want to hear?"
"When did you found the Volturi?"
"1500 years ago, we defeated the most powerful Romanian vampire family at that time, and subdued a large number of homeless people." Caius stretched out his hand and gestured, with an unconsciously relaxed and joyful tone.
"And before that, where have you been?" Elizabeth asked again.
"I was lost in fate, wandering the seas and islands." He replied gently.
"I've always liked history. If you could tell me a little secret, I'd be so happy." She said happily.
"I do know a lot," Caius tucked her in. "B.C. I have participated in countless wars—human and non-human. It was an era when myths and reality were intertwined. Ordinary people believed in gods and the underworld sincerely. They regarded lives like us as gods and even offered sacrifices. For a long time, the order of the vampire world was very chaotic."
"Then you must know a lot of famous people."
"I don't know how you define celebrity, Elizabeth, most celebrities these days are ignorant and stupid."
"I know," his vicious comment made Elizabeth laugh happily, "but the person I want to ask is Alexander, he is a very good military strategist, and the Macedonian phalanx is invincible. Have you ever seen them? Alexander and his Hephaistion? Is Hephaestion really handsome?"
"I was once a friend of Alexander, he was indeed a fine man, forward-looking and fearless. As for Hephaistion, I met him too, he was taller and handsomer than Alexander, and the two of them were so close So much so that when the queen mother of Persia admitted her mistake, Alexander didn't mind saying, 'He is too, Alexander.'."
"But Hephaistion went before him, like Patroclus to Achilles." Elizabeth sighed. "And he also died young, not even living a year longer than Hephaestion... What did Alexander die of, alcoholism or poisoning?"
Caius didn't answer right away, he stared deeply at Elizabeth with a pained expression on his face, as if he felt the same way.
"I'm afraid neither. Alexander died of a broken heart."
"After Hephaestion died, all celebrations were stopped. Alexander almost emptied his treasury to hold his funeral. The sad and angry king slaughtered the city. He no longer cares about his people, army and land .Hephaistion's departure took away the flame of his life... He began to shatter from the inside. His dreams, wealth and friends, everything that was once extremely important, were buried together with Hephaistion grave."
"So he extinguished the holy fire for Hephaestion, the holy fire that can only be extinguished after the death of the king." Elizabeth softly echoed.
"In the end, despite becoming extremely fickle and tyrannical, everyone could see the fragility of his heart. The black snake took advantage of the poison/drug, and Alexander drank it without hesitation."
"At the last moment of his life, I asked him if he wanted eternal life, but he refused. He would rather follow his lover and sleep in the eternal river of Hades." Caius gently stroked the curls around her ears .
"So he didn't leave the name of the new king so that his wives, mothers and generals could kill each other, right? He wanted the world to suffer with him." Elizabeth said sadly.
"Yes, seventy years of war after his death—he felt they were all jealous of his love for Hephaistion, and they killed Hephaistion."
"...Where was he buried in the end? It is said that his body was scrambled by generals more than once."
"He was finally able to sleep with his love, Lisa, I made sure of this, this is my way of saying goodbye to this friend." Caius lowered his head and gently kissed the crystal tears in Elizabeth's eyes.
"This is a happy and bad ending. Does fate always play tricks on people who love each other deeply?" She asked blankly.
Caius was silent for a while, "I used to be unable to understand his pain, but now I understand, as long as I think of being separated from you... don't be afraid, Elizabeth, we will never be separated, sleep now, my love. "He kissed her forehead lightly.
In peaceful silence, Elizabeth fell asleep at last.
That night, she dreamed of an endless white sand beach, and a golden horse galloping from a distance—it was brighter than the sun.
The author has something to say: only eight months after Hephaistion's death, Alexander also passed away at the age of 32. This pair of bamboo horses and bamboo horses have a life-and-death relationship, which can be regarded as an alternative HE.
The only difficulty is that they failed to be buried together, and the whereabouts of Alexander the Great's own body is unknown.
