Just a Bit Unhealthy
Chapter 7: Comforting Lies
One month later
Tristan can easily admit that he's the type of person who doesn't mind twisting things a little to get his way. Many would classify his actions as hypocrisy; Tristan likes to call this approach wise.Besides, this has a great advantage: since he is very good at disguising, he can easily spot other people doing the same thing.
Tristan leaned against the locker, watching Gabriel remove his sweaty top. He'd been ignoring Tristan, but the dry grin he'd put on his face during practice was gone.
Tristan looked at him with his head tilted. "Is the baby okay? It's called Jules, isn't it? Good name. I've always preferred names starting with 'J'."
①The original text is written as Jules.
Gabriel stopped his hand for a moment, turned his back again, and changed into a new dress.
Tristan pouted.Gabriel used to be so much fun. It's just that I don't seem to care about anything lately. This made Tristan very upset, and he was even more upset to find himself uncomfortable about this kind of thing. He usually finds it funny when his so-called brother is having a bad day, but Gabriel's prolonged disinterest in everything is really boring. There is no fun left.
"So you're going to marry Claire?" Tristan said.
Gabriel wasn't fooled by him. "If you want to say something, say it quickly or get out."
"I just wanted to tell you that I saw an interesting article in the Daily Mail yesterday," said Tristan, eyeing Gabriel like a hawk, "about an American player named Oscar Moore. Well that one."
The other party did not respond.Tristan smiled.Yo, Gabriel really doesn't know. That's where it gets interesting.
"I've never heard of him," he continued. "But then again, who cares about American players? But what I'm saying is, he came out because he was photographed having sex with a famous sports doctor. Guess who it was?"
Gabriel's shoulders stiffened. Finally, there was a response. But the reaction was to be expected, given Gabriel's weird dependence on Jared Sheldon.
Thinking of this, Tristan showed a disgusted expression. Before Gabriel was paralyzed, he was actually quite normal, but after returning from the nursing center, the whole person changed.Tristan couldn't believe Gabriel was so attached to Jared.Gabriel was very possessive of the guy and didn't want Sheldon to pay attention to anyone other than him.
If Tristan didn't know, he'd think Gabriel was after Jared, but he knew.He was different from himself, Gabriel was very straight, so his dependence on that guy couldn't be more strange.
"Moen likes Jared," Tristan said. "They look like a good match."
Gabriel still didn't move, his back was turned to him.Tristan couldn't see Gabriel's face, but he didn't have to. "I'm happy for him," Tristan said leisurely. "Jared has been your nanny for so many years, and he should take a break. He has almost no private life."
Gabriel turned and put on his coat. "Can't you get away and leave me alone?" he said while buttoning his buttons. He has no expression, but his hands are a little unsteady and his movements are too violent.
"Excuse me, did I poke your sore spot?" Tristan said with a concerned smile.
Gabriel glared at him angrily. "roll."
"Oh, that's all I said." Tristan raised his hand, making a comforting gesture. "I didn't mean to make you...unhappy."
"I'm not unhappy."
"You don't have to force a smile," Tristan said, putting on a genuinely concerned face. "After all, we are family."
The other party gave him a look with a strong murderous look.
Tristan gave up his disguise, looked into Gabriel's eyes and said. "Honestly, cheer me up. You're really boring me to death. There's no point in killing a tiger. The recent you are too unchallenging."
"I don't understand what you mean."
Tristan chuckled. "You've been acting like a kicked dog for the last few months. A dog without an owner. Sad and pathetic."
Gabriel's cheek muscles twitched.
Tristan scoffed at him. "Your weird dependence on Jared is pathetic enough, but this—this kind of pointless depression—is too much to hit your bottom line. If you really want him back so badly , why are you hesitating? Take him back."
"He doesn't want to come back," Gabriel said through gritted teeth.
Tristan raised an eyebrow. "So? If I want something, I'll beat everyone who gets in my way, so I won't be sulking around here doing nothing. You used to be like that—"
"That was before," Gabriel cut him off. "Not now."
Tristan tilted his head. "Really? You can lie to other people, but which one of us is with whom? We both know very well that we are the same. After all, you are still the greedy and selfish brat you were when you were a child. Don't tell me you never wanted to do doing the wrong thing, doing the selfish thing, and making everyone else suffer."
Gabriel's Adam's apple slipped.
"You must have thought about it," Tristan said softly. "You can pretend to be a good person as much as you want. But you are not a good person, not much better than me." He chuckled. "But you know what's the difference between you and me? Sometimes I tell innocent little lies to get what I want, but at least I'm honest with myself. I know who I am, and I feel at ease .I'm an asshole, and I'm fine with that." He locked Gabriel's gaze. "And I didn't need to have a perfect family to find my confidence."
Gabriel paled. He opened his mouth, but couldn't say anything.
Tristan turned and left with a smile, he was so satisfied with his performance that made the other party irrefutable.
