Chapter 35: Beyond the Curtain (2)
Brains - look - brains flying! "
The scene seemed to freeze in an instant.Harry, Ginny, Neville, and every Death Eater were not paying attention to each other, but to the top of the jar.A brain leaped out of the green liquid like a frisky fish: it seemed to hover in mid-air for a moment, then flew towards Ron, spinning as it flew, as if something had moved out of it. The tapes of image unfolded in circles like rolls of movie film.
"Hahaha, Harry, look -" said Ron, watching the brain spit out gaudy brains, "Harry, come and touch it; it must be weird -"
"Ron, don't!"
Harry didn't know what would happen if Ron touched those tentacles of thought trailing at the back of his brain, but he was sure it wouldn't be a good thing. He rushed forward, but Ron had already reached out and grabbed the brain.
As soon as the tentacles touched Ron's skin, they immediately began to wrap around his arms like ropes.
"Harry, look what's going on - no no - I don't like this, - stop - stop -" But the thin strap was already around Ron's chest; Tearing the brain tightly wrapped around his body like an octopus.
"Torn apart!" Harry yelled, hoping to cut off the tentacles before Ron's eyes got caught, but they didn't.Ron fell, still writhing and trying to break free.
"Harry, he's going to be suffocated!" screamed Ginny, unable to move because of a wounded ankle - a red light shot from a Death Eater's wand hit right on the ground. Ginny's face. She fell to one side and lay there unconscious.
"Swoon!" Neville yelled loudly, twirling around and waving Hermione's wand at the approaching Death Eater. "Swoon! Swoon!"
But nothing works.
A Death Eater fired a Stunning Spell at Neville; it missed by a few inches, and now it was just Harry and Neville dealing with five Death Eaters, two of whom fired the same number of arrows. The silver light missed them, but left several dents in the wall behind them.Harry galloped off, Bellatrix in hot pursuit: Harry held the prophecy ball high above his head, and ran at full speed across the room, intent on getting the Death Eaters out of him. side by his partner.
It seemed to work; they sprinted after him, knocking over tables and chairs along the way, but they dared not cast a spell on him for fear of damaging the orb, and only the door through which the Death Eaters had entered remained open. So he rushed over, secretly praying that Neville would stay with Ron and find a way to get him out.He ran a few steps in this new room, and suddenly felt the floor disappear - he fell down the steep stone steps, being bounced on each step, and the final impact knocked him I couldn't even catch my breath. He lay flat in the stone pit, and the stone arch was erected on the platform. The room echoed with the laughter of the Death Eaters: Harry looked up and saw the five Death Eaters in the brain hall approaching him step by step down the steps, while more Death Eaters came from other doors. It popped up and started jumping down the stone benches towards him.His legs shook so badly that he could barely support himself, but he stood up anyway. The orb of prophecy was surprisingly still in his left hand, intact, and the wand was tightly held in his right hand.He scanned his surroundings as he stepped back, trying to get all the Death Eaters into his sight. His leg hit something hard behind him: he had retreated to the ledge where the arch stood, and he climbed onto it.
The Death Eaters stopped and stared at him.Several of them were panting as badly as he did. There was another Death Eater bleeding profusely; Dolohov, already free of the Body-Restraining Charm, was squinting at him, pointing his wand at his face.
"Potter, you're finished," Lucius Malfoy said slowly and pulled off his mask, "Now hand me the Prophecy Ball like a good boy."
"Get - get them off and I'll give it to you!" said Harry desperately.
Several Death Eaters laughed.
"You're not in a position to haggle, Potter," said Lucius Malfoy, his pale face flushed with joy, "Look, there are ten of us, and you only have one?? Could it be that Dumbledore Didn't Lido teach you how to count?"
"He's (not) alone!" a voice yelled behind them, "He's (five) (me) back!"
Harry's heart sank as Neville was crawling down the stone bench toward them, Hermione's wand still firmly in his trembling hand.
"Neville, don't - go back to Ron -"
"Swoon!" Neville yelled again, pointing his wand at each of the Death Eaters in turn. "Swoon-527? Down! Swoon—"
One of the tallest, most burly Death Eaters grabbed Neville from behind, pressing his hands tightly to his sides, and Neville struggled to kick him; some of the Death Eaters laughed.
"He's Longbottom, isn't he?" said Lucius Malfoy sarcastically. "Well, your grandma is used to contributing family members to our cause?? It wouldn't surprise her if you died."
"Longbottom?" repeated Bellatrix, with a very wicked grin on her haggard face. "It's great that I've had the pleasure of meeting your parents, little one."
"I bit (mashed) your old black (nest)!" Neville roared. He struggled so hard that the Death Eater holding him yelled, "Shock him!"
"No, no, no," said Bellatrix. She glanced at Harry, then at Neville, looking excited. "No, let's see how long Longbottom can last before he collapses like his parents?? Unless Potter is willing to hand us the orb of prophecy."
"Can't give them each!" Neville roared. He kicked and kicked frantically, writhing violently as Bellatrix approached him and the Death Eater holding him, wand raised. "Can't give (them) each, Harry!"
Bellatrix raised her wand: "Cruciate!"
Neville screamed and curled his legs up to his chest, so that the Death Eater who was clutching him immediately turned into hanging and hugging him.The Death Eaters threw Neville to the ground, twitching and screaming in pain.
"It's just for you to taste!" Bellatrix said, raising her wand, and Neville stopped screaming and lay at her feet, sobbing. She turned and looked up at Harry. "Okay, Potter, either hand over the prophecy ball to us, or watch your little friend die in pain!"
Harry didn't have to think about it anymore, he had no choice.Still holding the prophecy ball in his hand, warm from the warmth of his body, he passed it over.Malfoy jumped forward to fetch it.
Immediately above them, two more doors slammed open, and five men rushed into the room suddenly and rapidly: Sirius, Lupine, Moody, Tonks, and Kingsley.
Malfoy turned and raised his wand, but Tonks had already cast a Stunning Spell at him.Harry didn't bother to see if he had hit it, and jumped off the platform in a hurry to get out of the way.The presence of members of the Order of the Phoenix distracted the Death Eaters, who rained spells on them as they jumped down the steps.Through the rushing crowd and the flashes of light, Harry saw Neville crawling forward on the ground. He dodged another ray of red light and lunged at Neville.
"Are you all right?" he yelled, as another spell flew inches above their heads.
"It's fine," Neville said, trying to stand up.
"What about Ron?"
"I think he's all right - when I left the card, he was still wrestling with that brain - 528? Fighting -"
A spell flew over and shattered the stone floor between them, leaving a crater where Neville's hand had been placed seconds before; the two scrambled away, and then a thick arm Something stretched out, grabbed Ha He by the neck, and picked him up, his toes almost lifted off the ground.
"Give it to me," a snarl sounded in his ear, "give me the orb of prophecy—"
The hand squeezed Harry's throat so tightly that he couldn't breathe.A tearful Harry saw.Sirius was fighting a Death Eater ten feet away; Kingsley was fighting two Death Eaters at the same time; No one noticed that Harry was dying. He turned his wand and pointed it at the man behind him, but he couldn't breathe, couldn't speak the spell, and the man's other hand was groping for Harry's hand holding the ball of prophecy—"Ah!"
Neville rushed from out of nowhere, unable to speak the spell coherently, so he jabbed Hermione's wand at one of the eyeholes in the Death Eater's mask. The man let out a growl of pain and dropped Harry immediately.Harry turned sharply, and panted at him, "Swoon!"
The Death Eater fell on his back, his visor slipping off: it was McNeil who had nearly killed Buckbeak, one eye swollen and bloodshot from a poke.
"Thanks!" said Harry to Neville, dragging him aside as Sirius and his Death Eater counterpart staggered past them, fighting so violently that their wands waved into a blur. shadow.Harry's foot hit something round and hard and slipped. For a split second, he thought he had dropped the orb.But then he saw Moody's magical eye rolling across the floor in a rapid spin.
The owner of the Eye lay beside Harry, his head bleeding, and his attackers were now fully engaged on Harry and Neville: it was Dolohov, his long pale face contorted with joy.
"Tarantella!" he yelled at Neville with his wand, and Neville's legs tap-danced wildly, lost his balance, and fell to the ground again, "Now, Potter— "
He flicked his wand suddenly at Harry as he had done Hermione, and Harry yelled, "Armor for protection!"
Harry felt something like a blunt knife swipe across his face; its force knocked him aside, onto Neville's dancing legs, luckily the Iron Armor Charm blocked most of the spell's force.
Dolokhov raised his wand again. "The prophecy ball flies—"
Sirius rushed over from nowhere and knocked Dolohov away with his shoulder. The prophecy ball slid down Harry's fingertips again, but he managed to grab it.At this time, Sirius and Dolokhov were fighting fiercely. They waved their wands like dancing swords, and the tips of the wands shot sparks.
Dolohov drew back his wand, ready to swing it as he had done to Harry and Hermione.Harry jumped up and yelled, "Petrification!" Dolohov's arms and legs clung together again, and he fell on his back, hitting the ground with a thud.
"Nice job!" cried Sirius, pushing Harry's head down, dodging the two Stunning Spells that were flying towards them, "Now I want you to leave—"
The two quickly bent down.A green light narrowly missed Sirius.Harry saw Tonks on the opposite side of the room fall from the middle of the stone steps, his limp body rolling down the steps. Bellatrix turned and ran triumphantly, rejoining the fight.
"Harry, grab the prophecy ball and run with Neville!" Sirius yelled as he rushed towards Bellatrix.Harry didn't see what happened next: Kingsley flashed past him, fighting an unmasked, pockmarked Rookwood; Overhead flew past - "Can you stand up?" he called loudly in Neville's ear, Neville's legs were still throbbing and twitching involuntarily, "Put your arms around my neck -"
Neville did as he did - Harry straightened up - Neville's legs were still flailing around, unable to hold himself together.Suddenly, out of nowhere, a figure sprang at them: the two of them fell on their backs, Neville flailing his legs like a beetle on all fours, Harry's left hand held high in the air , lest the small glass ball be broken.
"Prophecy Ball, give me the Prophecy Ball, Potter!" Lucius Malfoy yelled in Harry's ear, and Harry felt his wand pressed against his ribs.
"No - let - go - me?? Neville - catch!"
Harry rolled the prophecy ball across the floor, and Neville spun on his back against the ground, taking the ball in his arms.Malfoy turned his wand and pointed it at Neville, when Harry snapped his wand back over his shoulder and yelled, "There are obstacles!"
Malfoy was knocked away.Harry looked around as he got up again to see Malfoy slam into the table. On the podium, Sirius and Bellatrix were fighting fiercely.Malfoy pointed his wand at Harry and Neville again, and before he could catch his breath and say the spell, Lupine jumped between them.
"Harry. Gather the others and let's go!"
Harry grabbed Neville's robes by the shoulders and dragged him all the way up the first stone step; Neville's legs were still twitching and dancing, and he couldn't get up.Harry dragged Neville with all his strength again and they climbed another flight of steps - a spell hit the stone bench just next to Harry's heels. The stone shattered, and Harry fell on his back on the next step.Neville fell to the ground, his legs still dancing and swaying, and he stuffed the prophecy ball into his pocket.
"Come on!" said Harry desperately, tugging at Neville's robes, "Kick your legs and see—"
He pulled hard again, and the seam on the left side of Neville's robe was all ripped open - the small glass ball fell out of the pocket, and before they could grab it, Neville kicked it with a wobbly foot. It: It flew about ten feet to their right and shattered on the steps below. They all stared at where it had been smashed, transfixed by what had just happened, and only the two of them noticed that a pearly, self-colored figure with huge eyes had risen into the air.Harry could see its mouth opening and closing, but he couldn't hear a word of prophecy from the banging, screaming, and yelling all around them. After the figure finished speaking, it disappeared without a trace.
"Harry, I'm (sorry)!" cried Neville, with a pained expression on his face and his legs still dangling, "I'm (sorry) (sorry), Harry, I didn't mean to—" —" "Never mind!'' cried Harry, "try to get up, let's get out of here-" "Big (Dumbledore)! ' Neville yelped, looking over Harry's shoulder with a look of excitement on his sweaty face.
"what?"
"Big (Dumbledore)!"
Harry turned to follow Neville's gaze.Directly above them was the door to the Hall of the Brains, and Albus Dumbledore was standing in the doorway, his wand raised above his head, his pale face full of anger.Harry felt a surge of electricity rushing through him - they were saved.
Dumbledore walked quickly down the steps, past Neville and Harry, who had no more intention of leaving.Dumbledore reached the bottom of the steps when the nearest Death Eater spotted him, yelling to inform the other Death Eaters.A Death Eater scurried away, monkeying up the opposite stone steps, and Dumbledore's spell hauled him back as easily as if on an invisible thread—only two now. Individuals were still fighting fiercely, and it was obvious that none of them had noticed Dumbledore's arrival.
Harry saw a short red flash of Sirius past Bellatrix: he was laughing at her.
"Come on, you can do better!" he yelled, his voice echoing throughout the cavernous room.
The second beam hit him squarely in the chest.
The smile on his face hadn't quite faded yet, but his eyes widened in horror.Harry let go of Neville subconsciously. He drew his wand as he jumped down the steps again, and Dumbledore turned back towards the dais.Sirius seemed to take a long time to fall: his body bent back in a graceful arch, falling through the worn drapery hanging from the archway.
Harry saw horror and surprise on the thin, once handsome face of his godfather as he fell, into the ancient archway, and disappeared behind the draperies. The curtain fluttered for a while, as if a gust of wind had just blown, and then returned to its former appearance.
Harry could hear Bellatrix Lestrange screaming triumphantly, but he knew it meant nothing - Sirius had just fallen into the arch, and he could come out the other side at any moment? ?But Sirius didn't show up.
"Sirius!" Harry yelled, "Sirius!"
-531?He came to the floor, his breath becoming hot gasps.Sirius must be behind the curtain, he, Harry, dragging him out? ?But when he came to the pit and rushed to the ledge, Lupine hugged him around the waist and dragged him back. "It's over, Harry—" "Grab him, save him, he just walked in!" "It's too late, Harry—"
"We can still catch him—" Harry struggled, but Lupine wouldn't let go? ? "It's over, Harry?? There's no way?? He's gone."
