Dawn Redemption

Chapter 2 II. Courtyard of the Seifert Mansion

【Three years ago · 1942】

"Hurray, Hitler."

"Fan Yannick, [-]rd Assault Squadron Commander. Give me your luggage, sir."

Noah glanced lightly at the young soldier in front of him who was declaring his name while stretching out his hand, and handed over the luggage that he had just picked up from the back seat to Finn.He looked very young, and his short, neatly combed blond hair still showed traces of comb teeth. However, the overly serious expression and rigid gestures are not as energetic as people of this age.His face was fair and handsome but as cold as frost in late autumn.

"Mr. Von Seifert, this is your residence." Finn pushed open the door and stood respectfully by the door.As the commander's residence, the house looks rather rudimentary.Although it is big, it is located in the wilderness with almost no human habitation, and it looks extraordinarily lonely and desolate.A bronze plaque was nailed to the door, engraved with "Noah von Seifert" and a large sign of the cross. The house is surrounded by electrified barbed wire, and soldiers like wooden posts stand on both sides of the gate. For a moment, it was unclear whether it was outside or inside the huge cage.

Finn followed Noah into the house, and Noah noticed that the new lieutenant's footsteps were too rhythmic. The furniture is all high-quality goods brought over from Berlin, but it doesn't match the gray walls around at all.The door of the office is an exquisite double wooden door. Standing at the door, you can see the huge chimneys in the concentration camp behind the bushes through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows directly opposite, and the already dark sky is covered with dirty smoke.

"I can order you anytime, sir." Finn said, with almost no obvious setbacks in his voice.Noah nodded, and asked sideways: "By the way, what's your name?"

"Fin Yannick." The answer was still cold and emotionless.

"This surname is rare, are you not German?" Noah asked intentionally or unintentionally.

His racial concept did not burn with the overwhelming propaganda, but the never-fading belief in his family and country supported him to fight until now. However, Fein's straight handsome face seemed to show a embarrassed expression at that moment, and the light blue clear eyes subconsciously avoided, but still calmly said: "I am. I am always for this Blood pride of the great German nation. Sir."

After answering, Finn seemed a little nervous, and he clenched his palms involuntarily.Seeing his embarrassment, Noah stopped asking, closed the office door and turned to the hall.

"Thank you." Finn said softly.Noah stopped and looked back at Finn at the other end of the corridor. He quickly added: "Sir."

"It's okay." Noah turned his head, so he couldn't see his expression clearly, "Second Lieutenant Yannick, come over to have dinner together tonight."

"I'm honored." Finn said, "Sir."

----------------------------------

The simple meeting and pleasantries made Fein a little unexpected. He thought he would help the new chief take care of many trivial matters in life, but he didn't expect that after a few simple explanations, his work would be considered complete.

It was too early to go back to the bedroom.Finn walked slowly down the steps at the door, his mind turned, and he suddenly quickened his pace.

He was going to the office of the Political Department.

This man made him uneasy, even more uneasy than he had been when he received the news that he would be adjutant to a new commander.Maybe it's because only when we meet him can we truly feel the aura that is completely different from ordinary people in him.

As cold as iron.He obviously didn't put pressure on others, but those who were close to him would feel oppressed involuntarily. It was as if his hands and feet were bound by something, and he couldn't move according to his own will.

And Fein was a little afraid of those eyes.

They were brown eyes with sharp hawk-like eyes, as if all the secrets could not be hidden under his eyes.

The weather was still so hot, but Finn shivered.

Finn gasped, and forced himself to calm down as soon as possible. Now there is no way to regret it, the arrangement above cannot be changed, and after that, I will spend a long time with that man, so long that he can't estimate it, and I can't think of any way to transfer him away from his side.

It doesn't matter. He calmed down and comforted himself. He tried so hard to pretend, and buried the deepest secret of his life in the depths of his heart that he couldn't even dig out.And no one would want to get close to someone like him.

So that secret will never be discovered by anyone.

He was just an ordinary SS officer.Faithful to the job, committed to duty, here, like countless others, in Auschwitz, in the concentration camps of the German Third Reich in Poland.Having such an identity is enough, nothing else matters.

For a long time, Finn had been giving himself such psychological hints that he almost forgot—until he met that man, his new chief.

Another point, he noticed that this man was different.Fein noticed that instead of referring to himself as a squadron commander in the SS, he referred to him as "Ensign Yannick".There are only two types of people who use the old military ranks, the Defense Force, or the Veteran.

His thoughts were too messy, and before he could sort it out, he had already stepped into the door of the Political Department's office.

The moment he entered, the atmosphere in the entire office became quiet as if frozen. With just one scan, Finn could see who was deserting, but he didn't have the heart to care about it.

"Mr. Yannick?" Lex, who was in charge here, came up to him, the surprise at Finn's sudden arrival hadn't completely faded from his face, "Are you done with the reception of the new commander?"

"Well. Is there any information on him?"

"Whose?" Lex was a little puzzled.

A hint of impatience flitted across Finn's face, but it was fleeting, but enough to make Lex nervous. "Noah von Seifert, the new commander. Do you have any information on him?"

Lex stared at him for a moment, making sure he wasn't joking.Indeed, it was impossible for this man to be joking. He walked to his desk, picked up a few pieces of paper and turned them back to Finn: "Only these."

Finn took it over, frowning so that Lex thought he saw something important. However, in fact, this file can't solve the doubts in Fein's heart at all. What was written on it was the same as what Fein read about his new chief. Male, 37 years old, captain of the SS First Class Assault Brigade.Other information, height and weight, near-sightedness, etc. Fein didn't even bother to understand.

"Tsk." Finn stuffed the two thin sheets of paper back into Lex's hand, "That's it."

There is still no way to get to know him in this way.

Lex hasn't figured out what Finn is going to do, and no one can figure out his thoughts. When he still wanted to keep Finn to ask something, all he was left with was the fading figure in the door frame.
