Chapter 20 Unfinished business
Ginny barely remembered what had happened since arriving at the Burrow. She remembers falling and crying out from the pain in her ankle.Drenched in cold sweat, she looked up and saw a pair of blue eyes looking at her in surprise.
"Ginny!" cried the little boy, and the world went dark.
When she woke up, her father was taking her in his arms.Ginny didn't know why he didn't use magic, but she didn't care.Perhaps at this unfortunate moment, he wanted to hold her in his arms. She grabbed his shirt and got his attention.
"Dumbledore," said Ginny hoarsely. "We need to see Dumbledore."
Arthur nodded, and she fell into his arms, passing out again.
---
When Ginny woke up, she felt clear-headed and able to see her surroundings. She lay on the bed under the quilt, blinking, trying to wipe away her drowsiness. Her body was so stiff and sore that she didn't dare try to move her ankle.Ginny tried to sit up, but her hand touched something.
She looked around in surprise and found Remus sleeping. He looked better than before, but still gaunt and pale.Ginny licked her lips and looked around. They had arrived at the Burrow, and she guessed her parents had informed Dumbledore of their arrival. They obviously didn't feel the need to separate Remus from her.
Ginny lifted the covers gently so as not to wake Remus. Her ankle was bandaged, but she moved hesitantly, feeling better. She was relieved, and her mother helped her heal the wound.Ginny put her feet on the ground and stood up.
She glanced at the somewhat familiar room again. With a fire burning in the fireplace, she found herself in her parents' bedroom. They were so kind and gave her and Remus their room.Ginny looked down at herself. She was no longer wearing Snape's large cloak, but a shrunken version of her mother's nightdress.
At this time, there was a light knock on the bedroom door.Ginny looked at the door, then at Remus, who was still asleep. However, the knocker didn't wait for her response, as the door opened quickly.Ginny expected to see her parents or one of her older brothers, but it was the tall Dumbledore who entered.
"Professor!" Ginny called softly.
He closed the bedroom door silently, then took out his wand and waved it before looking at Ginny with a frown.
"You look good," he said to her, walking towards her.
Ginny didn't believe him, she could imagine how scary she looked.Dumbledore grabbed her arm, as if to make sure she was alive. After finding that she was indeed in normal condition, he relaxed his hand.
"Thank you," Ginny replied.
She wanted to speak, but nothing came out.
"I'm sorry, Miss Stiles." Dumbledore whispered, looking into her face. "I should have protected you."
Ginny's face fell upon hearing Dumbledore's guilt-filled and sad words.
"I need you to tell me everything. You and Mr. Lupine are both alive, but... I need to know how this miracle happened."
"Of course, Professor," she told him.
Dumbledore walked up to Remus, who was still unconscious, and looked down at him, glasses slipping slightly from his hooked nose.
"Who would have thought that these things would happen to my students? And you would live to tell this story?"
He looked up at Ginny.
"We should leave the Weasleys and go back to Hogwarts."
---
Ginny didn't say goodbye or thank her parents. She could imagine the fear and curiosity in their hearts. After all, a half-dead girl shows up in their fireplace, and she's just spent Christmas at their house.Dumbledore assured her that he would explain to them what had happened, but time was precious and Remus needed to be in the care of a professional healer, not her mother.
Immediately after they arrived at Hogwarts, a weakened Remus was taken to the school hospital. The holidays weren't over yet, and there weren't many students in the corridors of Hogwarts, so there was no need to worry about anyone finding him so exhausted. Then Ginny and Dumbledore went to his office, the most private place in the school, to talk about it.
Ginny spoke wearily of all she could remember. She saw Dumbledore on New Year's Eve, how they escaped the battle and the fire.Avoiding Dumbledore's gaze, she awkwardly recounted how the Death Eaters grabbed her and dropped her wand. She then goes on to tell about Remus saving her, the night of the full moon is coming, and they have to make a plan.Dumbledore kept his fingers crossed, listening to her story silently and intently.
Ginny hesitated to talk about the part where Snape saved her, she knew that Snape definitely didn't want to be involved, he would be afraid that Dumbledore would know that he still had a little kindness. But she still told the principal because she had to.
After Ginny told Dumbledore the whole story, she felt drained of all her strength. She could picture herself now, slumped in his chair in an old, baggy nightgown. She may be pale, with red rims and black under-eyes.Ginny didn't even want to touch her own matted hair.Dumbledore leaned back in his seat and watched her slowly close her eyes.
"Thank you for telling me that, Miss Stiles," he said. "You can return safely from the hands of the Death Eaters. You don't know how grateful I am. But not many people know about the kidnapping of you and Mr. Lupine. Only the Potters, Mr. Black and Mr. Pedirou know. They Promise not to tell anyone else, I trust them completely. Your early return to Hogwarts will not attract attention. However, I have to say, if Voldemort succeeds in kidnapping you, it will be very inopportune."
Ginny looked up at Dumbledore. Although the atmosphere was rather dull before, there was a hint of excitement in his tone now. What is he saying?
"professor?"
Dumbledore bent down and pulled out a book out of Ginny's sight. It was a very ordinary book, even if Ginny saw it in the library, she would not pay much attention to it.The title on the cover was faded, but as Ginny looked closer, she felt a sort of magic. She held her breath and looked slowly at Dumbledore.
"That is……"
Dumbledore nodded, his eyes sparkling.
"Yes, my dear. I have found the book at last, and you may go home."
Ginny was taken aback, she suddenly felt very light. She can go home. She can go home. The thought kept repeating in her mind.Ginny could finally go home, back to her time, and Voldemort could be defeated.
She couldn't help laughing, she covered her mouth with both hands, leaned back in the seat, tears welled up.
"When?" she said softly.
Dumbledore put the book back without answering her immediately.
"I'll give you a week to say goodbye, any longer could be dangerous, Miss Stiles... After all, Voldemort is looking for you. So next Sunday, you come here to meet me at lunch, and by then You can leave now."
The information is too much to digest. But Ginny nodded and stood up from her seat.
"Thank you, Professor," said Ginny, not knowing how to express how important it was to her to find this book.
She can finally go home.
"You are a brave girl, Miss Stiles. There are many people here who care deeply about you. Don't let them know that you are leaving. You know the consequences of such a thing. Not only is your life at stake, but theirs are also... So, take care of the unfinished business and you can leave when the time comes."
She nodded briefly, not quite understanding what he just said.Unfinished business?
"By the way, Miss Stiles," said Dumbledore. "You forgot something."
Dumbledore produced a familiar wand and handed it to her, and Ginny let out a squeal of delight. Her wand was warm in her hand, making her skin tingle a little.
After that, Ginny, wand gripped tightly, left the office and returned to the Hufflepuff common room. Her mind is messed up and she needs some sleep. But she also felt very excited and scared. She didn't know what she was going to do when she woke up.
"Ginny!" cried the little boy, and the world went dark.
