Appendix [-]: Preface to the First Edition: Interpretation of "[-]" (Revised Edition)

Thank you for your companionship and support since the serialization of "[-]".With everyone's joint efforts and help, "[-]" is finally going to be printed as a book. Here I want to explain some writing background.

The manner of Elizabeth's death (Paris tunnel car accident) and the time of death (8:31 am on August 12) were the same as those of Diana, Princess of Wales.In my original setting, Elizabeth was like Princess Diana of the wizarding world.Of course, the two of them must be completely different from origin to personality, and Francis Stuart is not a bastard like Prince Charles, but they are both straightforward, free, and longing for true love.Her life is a beautiful legend.

I created Ella Gardner, the author who was never married for the only love, to commemorate the never-ending love between the great writer Jane Austen and Tom Lefroy who never married. Jane's older sister is also called Cassandra.

As a person who loves writing since childhood, this article made me truly feel the magical and huge power brought by writing for the first time.I can convey the world I have built in my mind to others, and I can make my story repeated in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people, recalled, remembered, or forgotten, and moved.

If you have to give the whole text a theme, it is the simplest and purest word - love.If we want to put it in a more popular and detailed way, each of us must be a great little person who dares to pursue and protect love in the torrent of this era.

In my heart, "Harry Potter" is a great work with eternal vitality. "[-]" is a fantasy story based on "Harry Potter", which tells the life of Tom Riddle, an important character in the original book.This is my first published work. Some plots and character settings are still very blunt and childish. I am very grateful to everyone for their support.Also with the theme of "love", I would like to express my deepest respect to JK Rowling. Ms. Rowling's writing made me deeply appreciate the greatness of life and human nature in literature.It is a power beyond death, beyond time, that has been deeply rooted in my life since my childhood.

I am an idealistic person, so I tend to give everyone in my article a full soul.The heroine Elizabeth Bradley is a naive, straightforward, reckless and bold girl.Her innocent enthusiasm is endearing, but her brashness can be quite annoying at times.Her personality is a result of her upbringing.

Regarding Elizabeth's father, John Bradley, there was a large description of John Bradley in the first draft of "5", but it was later deleted to avoid excessive procrastination.Although his name was not mentioned in the article, before writing the article I had this image of a shy, young and handsome therapist in a green robe in my mind.The article simply states that he was once a personable therapist at St. Mungo's (Chapter [-]: Graduation Season in Snowfall).At that time, he fell in love with one of his patients, Madeleine.Madeleine was one of the most active witches in London society.After getting married, John Bradley realized that his wife was actually a person who spent a lot of money and had no restraint in personal life.Madeleine drained his savings and drained his life.After Madeleine leaves him for Mr. Randall, he goes from a handsome, promising young therapist to a broken-down drunk.

Of course, this is my own understanding of the character Tom Riddle.It's my imagination based on the blank space in the original Harry Potter book.I must declare that my Tom is not Voldemort in the original book.In my opinion, the fifth, sixth, and seventh volumes of the original "Harry Potter" are disconnected from the previous four volumes in terms of writing and conception.Ms. Rowling may have been influenced by external factors and modified the original writing layout.In volumes five, six, and seven, Voldemort's behavior has not shown the level that Tom Riddle should have.Some wonderful and important foreshadowings in the first four books were not continued in the following stories.

Of course, if it wasn't for Ms. Rowling's writing process that there was a real characterization disconnection, it might also be because of the dangerous transformation that lowered Tom's IQ.

Going back to the story of "[-]", in front of Elizabeth, Tom has always controlled himself very well, and did not show his true cruel side.I tend to think that this is not a kind of pretense and deceit, but a temporary relief, as if in front of Elizabeth, he can temporarily not be the ruthless and tense self.He can let his guard down.Perhaps, if someone had loved him and given him warmth when he was a child, Tom would not have gone so far on the dark road.Tom couldn't believe anyone else.He dare not love others.Using cruel means to suppress others and gain benefits has become a survival instinct of his.

What I wrote in the last paragraph was "I am inclined to think".Because my characters don't belong to me, I don't know what they really think.The process of writing for me is a spontaneous act rather than a controllable one. Throughout the writing process of "[-]", I seemed to be able to see the characters jumping out of my mind one by one.Every time they come to a plot, they themselves will tell me how they will act here.As the author, I am not the god of the world in this article.I'm just the writer of this story.In my opinion, even though the stories I write aren't fanfics, my stories don't belong to me.My stories belong to the readers, to the characters themselves.

I have always firmly believed that the reader's interpretation of me is what I really express.

Back to the character of Tom.Tom was able to rise to become the Dark Lord. In addition to his own attainments in black magic, I believe he must be a decisive person, a courageous and visionary person.At least in the early undisfigured stage, he should be like this.

The first four sections are all told from Elizabeth's point of view, and I've tried, out of selfishness, to bring out as many fleeting tender moments as possible in Tom's life.

The last part [Wan Qiu] is actually something that Elizabeth doesn't know.She has been protected so well all her life. When she thought she was in great pain, she didn't know that others were also bearing a lot of pain that she didn't know.

Everyone makes mistakes, and Tom made a mistake by exposing his true colors to two people: Dumbledore and Francis.Dumbledore was busy cleaning up Grindelwald at that time, and didn't have time to take care of him, but Francis had a relationship with Tom since he was a child.Francis is not easy to mess with. Another important figure in the text is Sylvia Black.She is an original character, marrying Cygnus Black and becoming the mother of three Bella sisters, replacing Druella Rozier in the original book.Because of Sylvia's status and background, she helped Tom start from scratch, first establish contacts, and then step by step go further and further into the field of black magic.After Francis forced Tom to flee abroad, she also helped Tom escape without hesitation or regret.

Her love for Tom runs deep, but Tom can't give her what she wants.

Finally, after the August siege, Tom with the last of his humanity died in a taxi with Elizabeth.Tom Riddle died, and a ruthless, unstoppable Voldemort was born.
