[HP Doujin] take care of you
Chapter 17 The Last Battle
The corridor was empty when Harry and Ginny left the broom cupboard.Harry ran in the opposite direction from the Great Hall, leaving Ginny watching him leave. She felt sick to her stomach and she didn't know what to do.All she wanted now was to be by Harry's side, to help him in this war.But she didn't even ask him if she could go with him.Ginny just hoped he was looking for Ron and Hermione. They were the ones who needed to fight by his side, and they had been since they met Harry.
Ginny was to stay with Sirius and Remus now.
Ginny took a deep breath and walked towards the Great Hall when the loud siren sounded again and she stopped. The voice was so harsh that the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.The gate is broken.
Sirens blared throughout the school, and Ginny felt more like she heard the pounding of footsteps than she did.She looked around in bewilderment and saw Sirius running towards her.She also went up to meet him, and she was startled when she saw his panicked look.
"Where have you been?" he called over the blaring siren. "Why didn't you go to the auditorium?"
Ginny pointed to the broom cupboard.
"I'm with Harry," she called.
Sirius looked at where she was pointing, thinking about her words, his eyes darkened.
"Where is he?" he asked in a low voice.
"I don't know," she said.
The sirens stopped, but Ginny's ears were still buzzing. She looked up at the pensive Sirius.
"The auditorium is empty, we are going to our respective positions." Sirius told her.
Ginny looked down the corridor, she could still hear footsteps on the stone floor. She looked at Sirius again.
"I'm staying with you." There was no room for argument in her voice.
Sirius' hair covered his eyes, and he took Ginny's hand.
"Of course you want to stay with me."
It was as if Ginny had no choice but to stay with Sirius. She nodded approvingly and strode with him down the corridor, toward the crowd.
"Where's Remus?" Ginny asked loudly.
Sirius searched for their friend among the crowd.Ginny wanted to look too, but her eyes kept stopping, and the first time they fell on the little children who followed closely behind their parents in fear. Then she discovered the classmates she was in class with, before Hogwarts had turned into a sanctuary. She was surprised to find that there were many adults in the crowd. Also members of the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army.
Ginny saw three of her friends, but they were too far away from her.Dean Thomas, Luna and Neville are directing people to different areas of the castle.
"Astronomical Tower!"
"Go to the school hospital, Hannah, they can use you there—"
"Gryffindor Tower is a great target for those coming from the Forbidden Forest. You will play a role there. The password is..."
Sirius pulled Ginny through the crowd, and she didn't hear the rest of it.But Neville noticed her and waved her hastily. She nodded as well, then looked around again.
McGonagall ran over and told the children who couldn't fight to leave the corridor.
"Follow Ernie, he'll take you to safety."
She saw a flash of red hair, and immediately turned her head to see if it was one of her brothers. But Ginny couldn't find anyone, and when Sirius stopped suddenly in front of Remus and Tonks, she almost ran into him.
"Where's Harry?" Remus asked, looking at Ginny and Sirius.
"Where do you think it will be?" Sirius rubbed his face and replied rudely. "He's gone to find Voldemort."
"Are Ron and Hermione with him?" was asking Ginny.
"I don't know," she said. "I hope so."
Remus made a sound of approval.
"Ginny, maybe you should stay here and help the young children leave the castle." Remus suggested softly.
Ginny looked at him angrily.
"You don't want me to fight?" she asked aloud. "You want me to stay behind?"
"This is not a Hogsmeade battle, Ginny." Remus lowered his head and whispered to her. "A lot of people are going to be hurt... a lot of people are going to die."
"No." Ginny snapped. "I do not go."
Remus sighed and looked to Sirius for support.Sirius had confidently told her a few minutes ago that she would not leave his side, but now he looked very hesitant.Sirius rubbed the back of his neck, then looked at Ginny.
"If you go to Hogsmeade, people won't think you're weak—"
"You're kidding!" she cried, ignoring his pun. "You just said to let me stay with you!"
"Ginny," Remus said gravely. "Now is not the time."
"Remus." Tonks wanted to interrupt them gently. "She's not a child anymore, look at her—"
"My parents asked me to stay with you," she said to Sirius. "Didn't they talk to you? They asked me to stay with you during the battle—"
"Sirius, she's too young."
Compared with Ginny's sharp and loud voice, Remus' voice was soft and well-reasoned.She saw Sirius showing an apologetic expression, and wanted to speak.
"No," she hissed, wrenching himself free from Sirius' grasp.
She turned around, her blood surging, and she squeezed through the crowd.Ginny knew in her heart that Remus was only worried about her.Remus didn't want her to get hurt, which was why he had convinced Sirius that Ginny was right not to fight. But her parents had agreed that Ginny was safest with Sirius.
Anger churned in her stomach, and she ignored Remus' shouts.Ginny heard Sirius calling her too, and knowing that he must have caught up, she worked harder to make her way through the crowd. She rushed between the two of them and saw Kingsley out of the corner of her eye.Ginny knew he was going to ask her why she wasn't with her parents, or hadn't left the castle, so she ran to the right. She hit someone and they both fell to the ground, drawing the attention of several people around.
Ginny scrambled off the man, moaning at the sore legs.
"Are you crazy, Weasley?"
To Ginny's surprise, she hit Parkinson's.
"What are you doing?" Ginny asked in surprise. "Shouldn't you have left already?"
"Where are you going?" Parkinson raised his eyebrows. "Your headmistress sent these students and children out of the castle to take refuge in Hogsmeade, I hope it will be safe there."
Ginny shook her head. Now is not the time to argue with Parkinson.
"So you're staying and fighting?"
Parkinson nodded.
"Well...it's good to have you," Ginny said to her.
Ginny got up from the ground and walked towards a corridor that was almost deserted.Several people were running down the corridor.Ginny casually tied up her hair, not knowing where she was going.Where would she be useful now?Parkinson seemed to read her thoughts and walked to her side.
"Where are you going?"
"I don't know," Ginny replied honestly. "But if I'm with adults, they'll let me go."
Parkinson snickered.
"You're so stupid, Weasley," she said, when the laughter died down. "Don't you want to leave here? Didn't you see what happened to your brother?"
Although Parkinson's words are harsh, they are very realistic.Ginny was nervous, trying to explain vaguely what had happened, since she didn't know much about Parkinson's yet. But, Pancy saved Percy's life by bringing Percy to Hogwarts, and she deserves to be treated sincerely.
"I think it's because of Gryffindor's bravery," Ginny joked nervously. "My family and friends are here, I can't leave...and you said it yourself...who knew Hogs Meade wasn't safe."
"Even if it's safe, you won't leave, right?"
Ginny shrugged.
"No, what about you?"
Her question seemed to surprise Parkinson. But as typical Slytherin, Parkinson did not show obvious surprise.
"I'll do what's right for me," she said. "I do think I should be here, too. I want You-Know-Who to disappear. And there are very few Slytherins in the castle right now... If you're going up against Death Eaters and You-Know-Who, that's going to put you at a disadvantage."
Now it was Ginny's turn to be surprised.
"why?"
Parkinson smirked, his blue eyes sparkling.
"Because you're all too subtle and too stupid for Death Eaters. You need some smarts in your ranks."
The joke (was it a joke?) made Ginny laugh suddenly. She put her hands on her chest, enjoying the feeling of laughing out loud. But her laughter died when a large black owl flew in through an open window in the hallway. Both Parkinson and Ginny stopped; Parkinson immediately looked up and down the corridor, wondering if anyone else was around, and Ginny walked hesitantly towards the bird.
This is a beautiful owl with big eyes full of wisdom. When Ginny came to it, it flapped its wings and held out a leg to her.
"Why did Professor Snape write to you?" Parkinson asked softly.
Hearing her words, Ginny's hand hung in mid-air.
"Snape?"
The name nearly scalded her tongue, evoking a new emotion.
"How did you know it was his owl?"
The owl opened its eyes wide, as if it knew they were talking about it.
"Snape is the mentor of all Slytherins, Weasley," Parkinson told her. "Everyone in Slytherin knows Professor Snape's owl... because his letters are usually very important."
There was tension in the air as she ruefully removed the letter from the owl's lap.Ginny opened the letter, and Parkinson held his breath curiously.
dungeon.
Ginny crumpled up the letter and set it on fire with her wand.Ginny was glad that Parkinson didn't see it.How did Snape get into the castle without anyone noticing?
"Weasley?"
"Go somewhere crowded," Ginny ordered, watching the owl fly towards the sun. "With those who are powerful."
Parkinson's eyes were wary.
"Weasley, if you're going to follow the instructions in that letter, you're even more stupid than I thought."
Ginny looked at Pansy.
"Snape was once your mentor, wasn't he?"
Parkinson pursed his lips.
"Yeah...but you're not his student. You're not a Slytherin, and he's going to protect Slytherins...he's not going to be interested in protecting you." She raised her eyebrows. "Or will he? What are you hiding?"
Ginny shook her head.
"It's nothing."
"Remember, Weasley," Parkinson called softly as Ginny walked towards the dungeon in the opposite direction. "Professor Snape killed Dumbledore in order to improve his status in the heart of the mysterious man. Why are you so special?"
Ginny came around the corner and down a few flights of stairs, Pansy's words still echoing in the corridor. She is nothing special. This could be a trap.If Severus was at Hogwarts, he might be waiting to hand her over to Voldemort. It doesn't make sense at all.He took her to the Ministry of Magic and saved her in the Ministry because he had promised he would save her.
He, like Parkinson, was no ordinary Slytherin.
No one goes to the dungeon.Ginny glanced back to make sure no one was there, then went down the dark stairs. The lantern on the wall was lit, allowing her to barely see the road ahead.Ginny lit her wand and walked cautiously through the dark tunnel.
There was silence in the dungeon, and Ginny realized that she had no idea where in the dungeon Severus was going to meet her.She felt suddenly anxious at the thought that this might not be the wisest thing she had ever done.No matter how much she wanted to see Severus as the confused young boy she had met months before, he was a Death Eater. He had killed someone before, and he could kill again.
Gripping her wand tightly, Ginny stared down the hallway she had just entered.Maybe she should just leave—
There was a wand against Ginny's back, interrupting her thoughts. Her arm holding the wand froze, a drop of sweat rolled down her forehead, and she felt the man approaching her.
"Your stupidity still surprises me."
Hearing the voice, Ginny relaxed her arms. She knew it was Severus behind him, it was him, and despite the wand pointed at her, she turned around. He looked at her with bright eyes and sneered.
"I thought you were used to it by now," she murmured to him.
He looked exhausted, as if he had been exhausted. He probably does. After all, Voldemort had just breached the gates of Hogwarts.Ginny knew that Death Eaters might be invading the school by now.Instead, she and Severus came to the dungeon.
"Come here, Weasley," he ordered.
Severus walked back the way she had come, without looking back to make sure she was following.Confused, Ginny trotted after him.
"You shouldn't be walking this way, if people find you, they'll kill you—"
Severus didn't answer.
"Did you hear me? The Order of the Phoenix is there, and they know you killed Dumbledore, and they'll kill you before you give a reason!"
"Do I always do that?" Severus said slowly. "Do I always 'spit out' reasons?"
Ginny grabbed his arm, trying to stop him.He has very long legs, so he walks very fast. They soon came to the bottom of the stairs, which led to near the Great Hall.Anyone could see him.
"Since you rarely do this, give me some reasons," she said out of breath. "Why did you save me from the veil?"
Ginny was to stay with Sirius and Remus now.
Ginny took a deep breath and walked towards the Great Hall when the loud siren sounded again and she stopped. The voice was so harsh that the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.The gate is broken.
