[HP Doujin] take care of you

Chapter 31: A Holiday Escaping from Reality

They're in a nearby building run by the Reticents, where Sirius is being looked after by a healer. This was what Arnold told her, and he forced her to sit down in the hall, promising that he would be back soon to continue talking to her.A woman sat behind a desk at the other end of the room and didn't seem to notice Ginny at all, or the bloodstains on the white tiles that stretched all the way into the back room, where they wouldn't let her in.

She sat motionless in her seat, the shock slowly wearing off.If she thought about what happened, she couldn't think of a reasonable explanation. He was clearly ill.But bloodstains...how did that come from? How did the Reticents know to come to him?Did he ask her to leave the apartment on purpose?

Why is he sick? What was Sirius supposed to say to her that Arnold was surprised he hadn't told her?Why does that stupid guy Arnold know more about Sirius' health than she does?

What is he hiding?

These questions ran over and over in her mind until finally Ginny couldn't take it anymore. She stood up from her seat, ignored the secretary's sharp gaze, and walked into the back room.A long corridor came into view, with many doors on either side.Ginny was poised, looking for Sirius at every door, for someone who could answer her questions.

She had just reached the sixth door when Arnold appeared at the end of the corridor. He walked right up to her and smiled at her like he knew she would try.

"I want you to go back to Mr. Black's place."

"Impossible," she snapped.

"You have no choice, Miss Weasley."

"How do you know me?" Ginny exclaimed, blushing. "Where's Sirius? Is he all right?"

"Okay." Arnold replied. "But the last thing he needs is for you to go find him."

"why?"

"He's healing. Give him a day to heal."

"Let me see him."

"I'm afraid I don't—"

"If you don't let me see Sirius, you'll be more scared than you are now," Ginny growled.

Arnold paused and looked almost on the verge of laughing. He was laughing at her, and Ginny wanted to hit him and hurt him, when he motioned her to follow him.She ran after him, her heart beating fast, and he opened a door to let her in first.

The room was empty except for a fireplace.

"What is this? I'm not leaving."

"Of course." Arnold waved his wand, and a chair appeared. "Mr. Kingsley will be here in a moment."

"Kingsley? What? Why?" Ginny had never been so confused in her life.

"Kingsley has been one of the chief silencers in recent years," Arnold told her. "I told him what happened recently, and you will be willing to talk to him."

"I don't want to talk to Kingsley—"

"Yes, you want to see Mr. Black." Arnold expressed his impatience for the first time. "You must speak to Kingsley first."

Without waiting for his answer, Arnold left the room and closed the door behind him, leaving it unlatched, sure that she would stay where she was.She bit her lip, not knowing what to do, when she heard a cough behind her.Ginny turned and knelt down.Kingsley's bald head emerged from the flames, his earrings sparkled and his eyes were friendly.

"Ginny." He nodded and greeted.

"Kingsley, what's the matter?"

Kingsley shook his head.

"I have to say quickly, Ginny, I didn't expect this episode, I'm going to see the minister in 10 minutes. But trust me, do what the Reticent tells you to do. Arnold and his companions They're all good people—"

"Kingsley, what's the matter with Sirius?" she called.

"You know we're not supposed to tell you this?" Kingsley asked, watching her reaction.

"Sirius will tell me anyway," she told him confidently.

Kingsley didn't answer, she squinted at him, and he sighed.

"He should have told you. He should have... Sirius was very ill, Ginny," Kingsley said softly to her. "The Veil has a certain grip on him, a powerful magic that makes him very sick, and falls on him suddenly and forcefully. Our healers are the most suitable people to take care of him."

"What are you talking about? How did the Veil control him? Why didn't he tell me? What made him sick?"

Kingsley seemed to be in a dilemma, not knowing what to say to her.He sighed again.

"We'll fix him, Ginny," Kingsley assured her. "But you've got to go back to his apartment. You have to. I assure you, you're doing him no good here."

Ginny's blood ran cold.

"What do you mean?" she asked softly.

"That's what I said. I didn't mean it, Ginny, you can trust me. Arnold will contact you tomorrow when Sirius is better. I have to go now, please don't make things difficult for them. We'll talk again."

Kingsley disappeared, leaving only Ginny kneeling in front of the burning fireplace, feeling even more lost than before.

It wasn't long before she threw the Floo powder into the fire and called Remus' name.Looking around the empty living room, she could hear baby Minnie crying from another room, but she called Remus's name so loudly that she was too frantic to care about anything else.

He emerges 1 minute later, looking confused when he sees Ginny's head in the fireplace.Remus squatted by the fireplace, watching her with an increasingly worried expression.Ginny could imagine what she looked like now, she must have looked terrified.

"Ginny, is everything all right? Where's Sirius?"

She shook her head, trying to speak, but found she couldn't.A tear rolled down her cheek, and she suddenly felt exhausted.

"What's going on?" Remus called as he got as close to the fireplace as he could.

Ginny took a deep breath and tried again. This time, she told Remus everything in one go.They just had a good two days together, they both enjoyed each other's company, he was fine when she woke up last night, but she woke up this morning and he seemed hungover or in pain or very sick.Hearing the appearance of the Unseen Man, Remus narrowed his eyes, and then, Ginny talked about Sirius' mysterious illness, and Remus sat comfortably on the floor in front of the fireplace, digesting what she said.

"But he'll recover tomorrow?" Remus asked.

"Kingsley and that Arnold said he would," she replied, feeling less agitated now that Remus knew everything and seemed calm.

"Interesting," Remus said.

Ginny watched him lost in thought, and then Minnie's cry brought him back to reality.

"Kim, I'll do what the Reticent Man says," he told her. "They know the situation better than we do, so they can take better care of Sirius."

"I can't just leave him here, Remus!" she cried.

"I know it's hard," he reassured. "But they're very strict about you going back to his apartment. Maybe you can find some answers there while you wait for Sirius to recover."

Ginny frowned.

"Remus, I've been there for two days and haven't seen anything—"

"Look further," he said. "If the Reticents won't tell you anything until he wakes up, there must be something out there that can help you."

Ginny nodded.

"I have to go, Minnie has a bad temper these days." Remus sighed. "If you find anything, write to me. Write to me tomorrow when you see him."

"Okay," Ginny said. "Thank you."

Remus smiled, then walked towards Minnie's room.

As Ginny leaves the building, the secretary tells her that she can apparate directly from the building to her apartment. But, her head was in a mess, and she knew she had to get outside, get some fresh air, and pray for a miracle.Fear still weighed heavily on her heart.Sirius was dying in there, and she was going back to his apartment?

The secretary brought a map upon request and showed Ginny the way back to Sirius' house. She warned that this section of the road is very long, and it may take about half an hour to walk, and there are many people on the street at this time of day.Ginny didn't care. She felt a buzzing in her ears, drowning out all the sounds around her.

It did take her over half an hour to get back to Sirius' apartment. She ignored the cries of street vendors, the smell of food, the fountains and buildings. She put her hand on the doorknob and the door opened. The stairs seemed long, and she walked to Sirius' apartment to find the door locked.Ginny was taken aback because she was sure the door hadn't been closed when she had come in hours earlier.

Ginny entered the apartment and headed straight for the bedroom. The bed was a mess, but there was no blood left.Someone must have come while she was in the Reticent man's building and cleaned up the blood.Ginny licked her lips, thinking about what to do.First thing in the morning, she'll be back in the building. She wanted to see Sirius and ask him for an answer.

How could he hide it from her?

But when she sat up on the bed, she felt exhausted.Ginny lay on her back on the bed, watching the light flickering on the ceiling, her eyes getting darker, she fell asleep.

-*.*.*-

A knock on the door woke Ginny up.The sun was starting to set, turning the room orange, and Ginny rubbed her eyes, trying to wake up.There was another knock on the door, and Ginny jumped out of bed.She ran to the door and opened it.Is it something to do with Sirius?

Seeing someone coming, she called out.

"Remus!"

He stood in front of her with a sad smile on his face and opened his arms, letting her fall into his arms. She basked in the comfort Remus brought her, then let him go and wiped her eyes.

"May I come in?"

"Yes, sorry, this way." Ginny walked into the apartment and closed the door behind her. "How did you come here?"

Remus looked around, Sirius' living environment attracted him, and then he heard Ginny's words.

"I can't leave you alone," he said to her, as if she thought it silly for him to do so. "I immediately asked Andromeda to help Tonks with the baby. I didn't make an appointment, and it took almost a full day to Apparate here."

"What time is it?" Ginny asked, leading him into the living room.

However, Remus was looking at a picture on the wall, which Ginny hadn't noticed before. She came up behind him and smiled. The people in the photo are waving enthusiastically.James stands on Sirius' shoulders, arms raised, as if he's just won a prize.Young Remus stood aside, laughing hysterically, waving at them as he wiped away his tears.Peter laughed loudly on the ground.

"What are you doing?" Ginny couldn't help laughing.

"I don't know." Remus answered honestly. "It was a long time ago."

He paused.

"James was obsessed with taking pictures of everyone for a while after you left. Maybe to preserve everyone's memories," Remus said with a laugh. "Who knows what happened to this photo."

They walked to the sofa and sat down. But Remus still looked around, at the room.

"This flat is cleaner than any he's ever lived in. He must be more at peace here than in London," he said softly.

Ginny and Remus looked at the apartment together. The room was surprisingly clean, with a few pictures on the wall and a few bookshelves.Every photo is of someone he loves.Everyone sees pictures of the looters when they first enter the apartment.Next to the sofa was a photo of Harry and Sirius, laughing and waving. On the shelves were pictures of him and Teddy, unwrapping presents. He bought Teddy a broom that year.

James would do the same, Sirius wrote her after Christmas.

On the wall opposite the sofa were two photographs, one of Ron, Hermione, and Harry in his old apartment, and one of Remus and Sirius happily drinking at Remus's house.Ginny smiled broadly. How had she not taken the time to look at these before?

"Are you okay?" Remus asked her.

She looked at him and shrugged, the smile fading away.

"Actually I've been sleeping for the last few hours," Ginny replied. "Want something to eat? I'm sure there's something in the kitchen."

Remus nodded, and she went looking for something to eat. There was only enough for a sandwich, but Ginny found she wasn't too hungry, and she believed that Remus had only agreed to give her something to do.When she finished making the sandwich, Remus walked into the kitchen and took a small bite of the sandwich.

"Did you look for clues in the apartment?"

Ginny shook her head.

"His apartment isn't very big," she pointed out. "So if there's anything there, it should be found pretty quickly."

Remus agreed.

"Sirius was never good at hiding things," he told her. "It wouldn't have occurred to him to cover it up, or hide it in plain sight."

"What are we looking for?" Ginny asked.

Remus took a moment to answer.

"Documents, parchment, anything that might contain medical information. Maybe a book. I'll look on the shelf for—"

"I'll look in the bedroom."

Food was forgotten and they split up.Ginny was surprised by Remus' determination to find something in Sirius' apartment. But, she reminded herself kindly, Sirius was a good friend of Remus's.He worries as much as she does.Ginny entered the room with her hands on her hips.Where would Sirius hide things? The bedroom is very small, just bed, bedside table and wardrobe.

Ginny went to the wardrobe first and opened the drawer. As she expected, there were only clothes inside.Ginny walked to the nightstand, then stopped. There was a picture of her there, she hadn't noticed before, because the nightstand was on the side where Sirius usually slept. To be honest, she didn't know where Sirius got the photo. This was taken at her birthday party.Sirius didn't show up, but she wasn't expecting him either. He was with Anna then, and she was with Harry. It was as motionless as a Muggle photo, and she was smiling at the camera.

Ginny closed her eyes, thinking. She suddenly remembered that Tonks had brought a camera to the party. She wants more pictures of Teddy with everyone, she must have taken this picture.Ginny sighed, and turned to continue searching.Ginny opened the drawer, disappointed. All it contained were some apartment bills, Fred and George's best-selling prank toys, and a letter from Teddy that he could barely read, mostly pictures of trains.

The only place to look is under the bed.Ginny knelt on the ground, lifted the quilt, and saw a pair of sandals and a box.She narrowed her eyes and took the box out from under the bed.Ginny crossed her legs, sat comfortably on the ground, opened the lid of the box, and put it aside. In the box were letters, many letters. She took out the first letter. It was from Harry, who still called Sirius a "cold".Ginny didn't read it, put it aside, and picked up the second one.

It was hers, and it was about her first official Quidditch win. Then Harry again, then Remus, then Ginny, then Tonks. The further you look down, the more worn the letter becomes. From James, James' parents, Lily, and then James again. The letters were so distracting that she almost didn't notice the half-covered notebook in the black cover.Ginny picked it up and opened it.The first page came as a complete shock to Ginny.

"Remus! I found something!"
