Chapter 29 'Carter'

"Are you all right, ma'am?"

The black female police officer stood in front of Grace holding her bag and asked with concern.

Grace still looked a little embarrassed, and the light-colored skirt still had dust stuck on it when she fell.

She hugged her bag, flipped through the contents, and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Oh, God thank God," Grace said, with a touch of grandeur, "thank you so much, Officer."

"It's okay, but I have to ask you to go to the police station to make a record." Carter showed a bright smile.

This smile...seriously does not match her age, revealing a little sense of disobedience.

In the eyes of others, she may just be a lively person.

"Oh, sure, thank you again, Officer," Grace couldn't stop thanking, "what's your name?"

"Carter." Carter replied without hesitation.

"Thank you Officer Carter, there are very important documents in this bag," Grace said again, "Maybe you will have time to have a cup of coffee or... have a meal after get off work, I want to thank you."

"Really, really?" Carter felt flattered, but she hesitated again, "But I..."

"It's just a meal." Grace could see that she was shaken, even though her acting was so bad, Carter believed it.

"...All right." Carter agreed, smiling shyly.

Grace is almost certain that the inner core of Officer Carter is probably a young girl in her 20s.

It's still the naive and cute type who has not been deeply involved in the world.

It seems that the broadcasters are not all wily or crazy.

Grace's mouth curled into a mocking smile.

"Ah, ma'am, I forgot, what is your name?" Carter turned his head and asked.

"Oh look at my brain, my name is Louisa Mill," Grace replied quickly.

It's clearly not her real name.

Although she might have cheated a naive little girl, Grace didn't feel any guilt in her heart.

"The new broadcaster is a policeman?" Bruce's voice came from the earphones.

They've decided to call those people streamers.

Grace took a sip of her wine and replied slowly, "Yep."

"This identity is very troublesome." Bruce was a little noisy, and it sounded like the scene of the reception, "Be careful."

"Don't worry, you'd better be your Gotham baby," Grace mocked with a smile, "What kind of reception is it today?"

"The new mayor's celebration dinner." Bruce should not have entered the hall, otherwise he would not be able to chat with her in such a normal way.

Grace laughed lightly, she really didn't know whether she should pity him for acting out every now and then, or ridicule him for his extravagance.

"That woman named Root," Bruce said in a deep voice, "is currently found to be a hacker."

"Hacker?" Grace narrowed her eyes, and this identity surprised her a little, "So...do you have a clue about that 'her'?"

"Not yet, there is too little information at the moment... Oh," a woman's coquettish laughter came from Bruce, "Hi, I don't know your name?"

Very good, the other side will be unable to get away.

Grace decided to take pity on him a little and play it up.

"I wish the new mayor of Gotham can be more reliable," she said, "My goal is here too, bye."

Grace pressed the call button and took off her earphones.

"Carter?" Grace waved to Carter who walked into the store.

Today she chose a tavern she had visited once in New York.

After get off work, Carter took off his police uniform and was dressed in casual clothes. His appearance revealed a somewhat capable look, but there was an immatureness in his eyes that could not be concealed.

"Good evening, Ms. Mill." Carter tried to act naturally, but she could still see that her limbs were stiff.

Grace smiled at her soothingly and gently, and said, "Luisa is fine."

"Then you can call me Joss too." Carter's eyes lit up a little.

Grace disguised herself as a white-collar worker who had just arrived in New York and worked as a secretary in a half-sized company.

In the morning, there are necessary documents for today's meeting in her bag, and it will be a headache if they are robbed.

Of course, the gangster who robbed her was hired by herself.

Although she will be locked up for a few days, the money she gave is enough for that little bastard to be willing.

After a few glasses of wine, Carter's expression was completely relaxed, and he would say almost anything.

Grace sighed in her heart, this state was too prone to accidents.

"This is the first time someone has thanked me like this," Carter laughed. "Ah... no, that person invited me to dinner."

"After all, you see I'm a patrolman."

"But even if I'm just a little policeman, I hope to help people in need." The smile on her face is real.

This may be the thought of the broadcaster himself who is possessed in Carter's body.

Grace has a guess that these live broadcasters can obtain the memories of the possessed person.

Otherwise, she couldn't have noticed that Leonard had changed at the time, and she didn't even notice any abnormalities.

The broadcaster uses these memories to pretend to be the person.

It's just... Carter didn't play very well.

"Didn't you help me?" Grace said with a smile.

Carter seemed slightly tipsy, she said with a laugh.

"If possible, I would really like to try to see what it's like to be a policeman." Grace pretended to sigh unintentionally.

Carter showed a smug expression, and whispered: "I'm also experiencing..." She suddenly stopped.

"Hey, let's experience what it's like to be a policeman step by step!" Carter seemed to be a little more sober, but her words still sounded a bit twisted.

Grace poured more wine into Carter's glass without leaving a trace.

"That's true," she pursed her lips and smiled, "Who isn't experiencing life?"

"Yeah." Carter drank the wine she poured in one gulp, and replied in a daze.

Grace looked at the bracelet on Carter's wrist, which was unsurprisingly engraved with thorns.

She narrowed her eyes slightly. If she took the bracelet away now, wouldn't the person in Carter's body be transferred at will?

No, don't act impulsively.

If the bracelet leaves the broadcaster's body, the possession will be terminated directly. Will it cause harm to Officer Carter's body?

Grace couldn't take that risk.

"Louisa?" Carter asked with a puzzled blink as he saw her silent.

"Ah, I think this bracelet of yours is really pretty," Grace showed a curious look, "Where did you buy it?"

Carter's expression froze for a moment, and she touched her bracelet almost subconsciously.

"This, this is me... yes, my ex-husband gave it to me." Carter replied.

"I'm sorry..." Grace looked at her apologetically.

Before approaching Carter, Grace naturally did some homework.

Carter has an ex-husband and they have a child in high school.

Both of them, like Grace, used to be soldiers. The difference is that Grace is in the navy and they are in the army.

Although Carter recovered well after returning from the battlefield, Carter's ex-husband was mostly destroyed by the war, which is also the reason for their divorce.

Now that the live broadcaster can talk about her ex-husband, Grace's previous conjecture can be confirmed.

The broadcaster can indeed obtain the memories of the possessed person.

Maybe not all of them, but roughly all should be clear.

Stealing other people's lives, these people really have no scruples.

Grace hid a little anger in her eyes, looked up at Carter again.

"It's okay, it's all in the past," Carter waved his hand, "don't worry about it."

Grace nodded slightly, and she looked up at her watch, pretending to suddenly realize that it was late.

"Oh, I have to go to work tomorrow, or today?" Grace said with some embarrassment.

Carter still looked like she hadn't said enough, she said with a regretful expression: "Okay."

"Ah! I'll take you back," Carter suddenly volunteered, with a feeling of eagerness to try, "It's really late, and the night around here is not/stable."

A feeling of completely substituting the role of the police.

Of course, Grace would not refuse such further communication.

"Really? You are so kind." Grace said with a smile, bending her eyes.

There were very few people on the street at nearly ten o'clock in the evening.

Carter and Grace walked down the avenue, chatting casually.

Suddenly, a small truck drove forward quickly on the road.

And there was someone in front of him who took a cart full of things and pushed it towards the truck.

"What?!" Carter exclaimed.

The next second, the truck that hit the cart lost control and hit the sculpture on the opposite side of the street in an instant, making a loud noise.

Carter immediately took out the gun, and turned to Grace with a serious face.

"Quickly, Luisa, find a place to hide and call the police immediately!" She pushed Grace into the alley next to her and ran towards the truck.

"NYPD!" Carter yelled.

Soon, gunshots rang out on the street.

Of course, Grace couldn't just sit and wait in the alley, she took out a folding dagger from her small bag, and at the same time turned on her mobile phone to call the police.

She quickly explained the address and situation to the operator on the other end of the phone and hung up.

Damn, she hated high heels.

"Huh?" Grace only got a few steps closer when she suddenly spotted a familiar figure.

The person who jumped out from the back of the truck turned out to be Gen, and she was pulling an unknown prisoner.

Is this the so-called other big thing?Street truck robbery?

It's head-scratching.
