Chapter 191
Gathered here to celebrate the union of two faithful souls..."
"Yes, my tiara made her look prettier," said Aunt Muriel in a far-off whisper, "but I must say that Ginny's skirt cuts too low."
"William Arthur, would you marry Fleur Isabel...?"
Mrs. Weasley and Mrs. Delacour sat in the front row, weeping quietly with their faces covered in lace veils. There was a sound like a trumpet blowing from behind the big tent, and everyone knew that Hagrid had produced a handkerchief the size of his tablecloth.Gwen turned to look at George with a smile, tears in her eyes too.
"...I declare you to be partners for life."
The bushy-haired wizard waved his wand high over Bill and Fleur's heads, and a cloud of silvery stars fell on them, swirling around their now embracing bodies.Fred and George led the applause, and the golden balloon burst overhead: out of it flew the Bird of Paradise and the little golden bell, floating in mid-air, adding birdsong and bells to the din of the house.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" cried the bushy-haired wizard, "please stand!"
Everyone stood up, and Aunt Muriel grumbled a few words. The wizard waved his wand again. All the seats rose with light grace into the air, the canvas of the marquee disappeared, and they stood under a canopy of gold pillars, with a splendid view of the sunny orchards and surrounding countryside. Then, a pool of molten gold spread out from the center of the tent, creating a glittering dance floor. The chairs floating in mid-air automatically gathered beside the small table covered with white tablecloth, and floated back to the ground around the dance floor lightly and gracefully together, and the band in golden jackets walked towards the stage in unison.
"Absolutely." Ron admired.Waiters popped up from all directions, some carrying silver trays of pumpkin juice, butterbeer, champagne and Firewhiskey, or a precarious stack of pies and sandwiches.
"We should go over and congratulate them!" said Hermione, tiptoing to watch Bill and Fleur disappear into the crowd of blessings.
"There'll be time later," said Ron, shrugging, grabbing three butterbeer glasses from a passing tray and handing one to Harry. "Hermione, wait, we'll go first." Get a table . . . not there! Stay away from Muriel—”
Ron headed across the empty dance floor, looking left and right.Harry knew he must be wary of Krum. They went to the other side of the marquee and found that most of the tables were full, the emptiest being the one where Luna was sitting alone.
"Shall we sit with you?" Ron asked.
"Okay," Luna said happily, "Dad just went to get our presents for Bill and Fleur."
"What? Offer them Gordigan for life?" asked Ron.
Hermione kicked him under the table, only to hit Harry instead.Harry burst into tears in pain.I couldn't hear what they were saying for a while.
The band starts playing.Bill and Fleur were the first to step onto the dance floor, to huge applause from everyone.A moment later, Mr. Weasley led Mrs. Delacour onto the dance floor, followed by Mrs. Weasley and Fleur's father.
"I love this song," Luna said, swaying to a waltz-like rhythm.Seconds later, she stood up and glided lightly to the dance floor, where she spun alone, eyes closed, arms outstretched.
"She's awesome, isn't she?" said Ron admiringly, "always classy."
But the smile on his face faded suddenly: Viktor Krum took the seat Luna had vacated.Hermione looked happy and flustered, but this time Krum wasn't out to compliment her.He frowned and said, "Who is that man in yellow?"
"Xenophilius Lovegood, the father of a friend of ours," said Ron.There was a strong sensuality in his tone, which showed that they had no intention of laughing at Xenophilius, even though he was obviously ridiculous. "Go dance," he said abruptly to Hermione.
Hermione looked surprised but also pleased, and stood up immediately.Together they disappeared into the growing crowd on the dance floor.
"Ah, are they dating?" Krum asked, distracted for a moment.
"Well - let it be," said Harry.
"who are you?"
"Barney Weasley."
They shook hands.
"Barney—are you familiar with this Lovegood man?"
"Unfamiliar, I saw him for the first time today. What's the matter?"
Krum held his wine glass and stared angrily at Xenophilius chatting with several wizards on the other side of the dance floor.
"Because," said Krum, "if he hadn't been a guest of Fleur, I'd have fought him right there, and he's got that wicked symbol on his chest."
"Sign?" said Harry, looking also at Xenophilius. That strange triangular eye glowed on his chest. "What's the matter? Is there something wrong?"
"Grindelwald. That's the sign of Grindelwald."
"Grindelwald...is that the dark wizard that Dumbledore defeated?"
"Yes."
Krum's cheek muscles twitched, as if he was chewing something, and then he said: "Grindelwald killed many people, my grandfather was one of them. Of course, he has never had much power in this country. They say he is afraid of Dumbledore." —That's right, look at his final fate! But, this—" He pointed at Xenophilius with his finger, "—is his symbol, and I recognized it at a glance. Grindelwald in Dems When Tron was studying, he carved it on a wall. Some fools copied this symbol in textbooks, on clothes, trying to scare people with it and make themselves look great-later, those of us who lost loved ones because of Grindelwald people taught them some lessons."
Krum snapped his knuckles aggressively and glared at Xenophilius fiercely.Harry didn't understand.Luna's father is a supporter of the dark arts?It was unbelievable, and no one else in the tent seemed to recognize the rune-like triangle.
"Are you—um—are you really sure that's Grindelwald's—?"
"I can't be mistaken," said Krum grimly. "I've passed that sign almost every day for several years and know it like the back of my hand."
"Well," said Harry, "maybe Xenophilius didn't know what that symbol meant. The Lovegoods are...unusual. He might have stumbled across it somewhere and thought It's a cross-section of a crooked snorkel or something."
"A cross-section of what?"
"Well, I don't know what it is, but he and his daughter seem to be looking for this thing when they are on vacation..." Harry felt that he hadn't introduced Luna and her father at all.
"That's his daughter." He pointed to Luna.Luna was still dancing alone, waving her arms around her head as if trying to fend off mosquitoes.
"Why did she do that?" Krum asked.
"Probably trying to get rid of a bugger fly," said Harry, recognizing the sign.
Krum seemed confused as to whether Harry was playing a trick on him.He drew his wand from inside his robes and tapped it against his thigh so hard that gold stars emerged from the tip.
"Grigorovitch!" Harry said loudly, and Krum was taken aback, but Harry was too excited to notice.Seeing Krum's wand, he recalled the scene in the past: before the Triwizard Tournament, Ollivander took this wand and looked at it carefully.
"What's the matter with him?" Krum asked suspiciously.
"He's a wand maker!"
"I know that," Krum said.
"He made your wand! So I thought - Quidditch -"
Krum seemed increasingly suspicious.
"How do you know Gregorovitch made my wand?"
"I . . . I got it from somewhere," said Harry, "in—in the fanzines." He made it up, and Krum's scowl seemed to soften.
"I don't remember ever talking to fans about my wand," he said.
"So... um... where has Grigorovich been lately?"
Krum looked confused.
"He retired a few years ago. I was one of the last to buy Gregorovich's wands. They're the best - but I know you Brits value Ollivander's wands. "
Harry didn't answer. He pretended to be like Krum watching other people dance, but he was thinking hard.So Voldemort was looking for a famous wandmaker, and Harry thought it was easy to understand why: it must have been because of what Harry's wand had done the night Voldemort chased him through the air.The wand of holly and phoenix feather conquered the borrowed wand in a way Ollivander hadn't expected or understood.Did Gregorovich know better? He is really more skilled than Ollivander, does he really know the secret of the wand that Ollivander does not?
"I heard someone call my name." Gwen blushed and sat down on Ron's vacant seat.
"Why don't you go dancing?" Krum asked politely, looking at Gwen in the silver skirt.
"Your lipstick—" said the changed Harry, pointing to the red mark on the corner of Gwen's mouth.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Gwen took out the small mirror and wiped her mouth dimly. "It's all George—my boyfriend."
"Oh," Krum drank the wine in his glass dissatisfied, and stood up, "All the beautiful girls have their own names, what's the use of being an international star?"
He strode away.
"Yes, my tiara made her look prettier," said Aunt Muriel in a far-off whisper, "but I must say that Ginny's skirt cuts too low."
