Chapter 30 Big Hairy Monster!
A new semester has begun.Harry and the others moved to a new dormitory with a second-year nameplate. The classmates were discussing with great interest the new things they encountered during the summer vacation, and the girls showed each other their beautiful new clothes. "Hey, Harry, how was your summer vacation?" For such questions, Harry kept smiling and answered, "Not bad." Then he quickly found an excuse to slip away.In fact, he did have a good time in the second half of the time, but the news of the Death Eaters' attack was blocked by Fudge, and he didn't want to let others fall into a purposeless panic, so Quidditch or something At most, he could only talk to Hermione.
"Harry, you're so calm," Hermione couldn't help repeating as the three of them headed off to their first Defense Against the Dark Arts class of the term.In her opinion, successfully escaping from five adult Death Eaters was undoubtedly a very proof of strength. And if possible, he would keep it secret from everyone—including himself.
"Can I go around and say that the Death Eaters are trying to kidnap me? That's a matter for the Minister of Magic," Harry said lightly, as if Fudge was actually going to announce it. "I do Well I'll do what I have to do."
"That's right, Professor Roald is going to tutor you personally..." Hermione became excited again, "I'm sure I can learn a lot...and..." She suddenly stopped talking, her eyes flickered, and her cheeks were flushed.
Harry and Tom looked at each other helplessly.Hermione was not happy, and one of them gave them a supercilious look, and then pushed open the door of the classroom first.
There used to be rows of neat tables and chairs inside, but now they are all gone. And Harry felt that someone had put an expansion spell on the classroom, and it looked like a boundless field, with gray, messy rubble everywhere, and a few yellowed grass blades fluttering in the bleak autumn wind.
Quite a few people had already arrived, and they all looked as shocked as Harry and Hermione. "We're in the right place, aren't we?" Hermione said hesitantly, but they both knew there was nothing wrong. At this moment, the air fluctuated, and a door suddenly appeared in the far sky. Professor Roald came, and Harry saw the familiar corridor of Hogwarts behind him.
He walked to the place where the podium should have been, and looked around at the excited faces below. "It seems that you all like this arrangement, don't you?" The students nodded, and a Ravenclaw boy Harry didn't know raised his hand and asked, "Professor, are we going to conduct a real combat simulation?"
The smile on Professor Roald's face deepened a little. "Almost... I think you should practice your spells, just what is in the textbook is not enough." He walked to the other side, reached out and tapped the air, only to find that there seemed to be a layer of hard and transparent glass wall. "There is an animal in it, the magic department is classified as three-star, a kind of harmless little devil..." He paused, waiting for the students' buzzing discussion to pass, and then continued: "Who wants to be the first to try?" deal with them?"
The students all lay on the transparent barrier wall and looked in. Except for the yellow sand and stones, where are the animals? Moreover, Professor Roald said, it is "them", no one wants to make a fool of themselves, after all, there are other people watching.
"I know what it is," whispered Hermione, "a big-headed monster... a Russian demon..."
When Harry was reminded by her, he immediately remembered that he had seen its introduction in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.A harmless animal after all... He saw Hermione's reflection on the glass wall biting her lower lip, and realized at once that she knew how to deal with it, but wasn't sure if her own spell was working.
"Is there no one? Oh..." Professor Roald was obviously a little surprised, because Harry, who was usually quiet in class, raised his hand. "The lion of Gryffindor wants to try first, fine," he clapped his hands, motioning everyone to move away, and drew an arc in the air with his wand, and an arch appeared out of nowhere. "Here, Harry, get your wand."
Harry pushed the door open amidst nervous anticipation. The air inside smelled very dry, as if he had really come to a desert. He walked cautiously, looked around, and noticed that some stones did look very round and hairy.
The students outside all stared wide-eyed.Apparently, some rocks move by themselves.Because not long after Harry entered, they could see that a long row of stones began to follow faintly behind him. Some people have already guessed what kind of animal it is, but there are so many, it is a bit frightening.
Harry kept an eye out of the corner of his eye as he walked, and more and more big-headed monsters were attracted by him, crawling hurriedly on the sand with their short limbs, joining the army behind him.He really hasn't dealt with this kind of thing before, and the book says that simple magic or stun spells can easily drive them away. So, he probably needs a long list of Stunning or Petrifying or Imprisoning spells?
Things are simpler than he imagined.Just when he turned around and stopped a dozen or so big-headed monsters, the rest of them saw something bad and ran away one after another. He saw Hermione jumping and laughing at him through the glass, and he didn't know what else to say.Professor Roald signaled that he was fine, and Harry walked back.He was greeted outside the door with warm applause and a hug from Hermione.
"Harry did a great job." Professor Roald looked at them with a smile. "You all know how to deal with the big hairy monsters, right? Let's start now, go in one by one. Be careful and take action in time, otherwise they will follow you for too long , you will become a hopeless captive. Also, if you find that the wands are not so obedient, then give them a kick." The students all laughed, and obviously they didn't think they needed to kick the big-headed monster people.
Harry watched his classmates take turns entering.Hermione did as well as he did, and it was hard to believe that her spells always worked the first time. But others weren't as lucky as she was, and their wands had little more than a spark at the tip rather than a well-formed spell. In the end, most people end up kicking the big-headed monster away in embarrassment.
This fact greatly frustrates children entering second grade. The homework assigned by Professor Roald is to practice the petrification spell, the fainting spell, or any spell that can repel the big-headed monster. Continue to practice in the next class.
"Harry, wait a moment." After class, when Harry and Tom Hermione walked to the door of the classroom, Professor Roald suddenly stopped him. "I guess he must discuss tutoring with you." Hermione whispered, gave Harry an envious look, and then dragged Tom out.Harry looked at his friends, and then at Professor Roald on the other side—he was looking at him calmly, and suddenly felt that Tom and he were worthy of foster father and son, and they even looked alike in the eyes of people.
"I understand that you joined the House Quidditch team this semester," said Professor Roald gently. "Congratulations."
Looking into his dark eyes, Harry suddenly thought of flying lessons last semester, "Thank you." The words blurted out, startling even himself. "I mean, the Quidditch team practice on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings," he added hastily, before digging out the timetable in his schoolbag, "and this, and anything else."
Professor Roald reached out to take the parchment, and Harry saw the corner of his mouth twitch. "You know? About not letting you ride a broomstick in first grade?"
Harry stared. He has tried his best to be vague, why is it still heard?I don't know if Tom will be blamed for this... But it seems that Professor Roald doesn't want to spend time on this issue. He carefully looked at Harry's class schedule, "I think it may take a whole period of time... This Saturday afternoon," he raised his eyes to look at Harry, "every two weeks, let me know if there is anything else."
Harry nodded. "Okay." But I was secretly surprised by the tone of Professor Roald's speech. The attitude was not like that of a teacher to a student, but rather like that between friends.
"Do you know where my office is?" Professor Roald continued to ask, and after getting Harry's nod in reply, he added: "The password is 'Easter'."
Harry froze for a moment. "Easter?"
"Yeah," Professor Roald looked careless, "because it happened to be Easter when I got this teaching position."
Harry pushed aside the momentary sense of disobedience he had just had. "Starting this week, sir? May I ask what it's for?"
"Yes," Professor Roald smiled. He raised his hand as if to pat Harry on the head, but it finally landed on his shoulder. "You will know then...my advice to you Yes, eat your lunch, bring your wand, and that's it."
Harry said goodbye to him and left the classroom. There was only one person left facing the air in front of him, with an unpredictable expression on his face.
Soon it will be Saturday.Early in the morning, Harry was woken from the bed by Wood, and he put on his big red team uniform sleepily, and put on a cloak to keep out the cold. This was his first Quidditch team practice, and only Wood knew what he was capable of--and maybe Tom, the others were still in the dark.Harry walked out of the dormitory with his Nimbus 2001, glad no one was hanging around him asking questions.Colin Creevey admired him as crazily as last time. It was enough for him to be blocked every time after class and being secretly photographed. He didn't want to be disturbed even when he was playing Quidditch. But it's probably over after he officially competes, Harry shrugged, let's figure out a way then.
When he got to the locker room, he found the rest of the team had arrived. It seemed that only Wood was awake, and the rest were either yawning or had dark circles under their eyes. The fourth grade girl seemed to be leaning against the wall and fell asleep. The Weasley twins were the first to spot Harry. "Harry!" they yelled together, before turning to Wood, "Is this the Seeker Professor McGonagall sent us?"
Wood was obviously very proud: "Yes. Harry can definitely be our secret weapon, his speed is really amazing..." As he spoke, he held up a large schematic diagram of a Quidditch pitch, tapped it with his wand, and the The circles and forks began to move. "I developed a new tactic for this..."
But no one's attention was on him. Each of the Weasley twins hooked Harry around the neck and asked him to tell how he had been chosen by Professor McGonagall.Katie Bell and Angelina Johnson sat on the bench, looking at him full of scrutiny. And Alias Pinnet seemed to be really asleep, and didn't respond to Wood's words at all.
By the time Wood finished explaining his board, the sun was already high.Harry thought he was sleepy and hungry as he followed into the pitch. When the Weasley brothers discovered that his broom was the latest Nimbus 2001, the screams almost knocked the roof off.Harry knew he hadn't been picked for the Quidditch team because of the broom, though, because Alias Pinnet's eyes looked suspicious.
"Haven't you finished practice yet?" It was Hermione's voice, sitting in the stands with Tom.
Harry looked enviously at the bread and jam in their hands. "No," he replied vaguely, "It hasn't started yet, Wood just finished explaining the tactics."
Tom followed his gaze to see the food in his hand, and raised his eyebrows: "Didn't you have breakfast?" He tapped with his wand as he spoke, and the yellow peach jam automatically coated the bread slices, and then flew to Harry's hand.
"Thank you!" Harry was so hungry that he ate up the toast in two bites. He suddenly realized that no one was talking, and looked up inexplicably.Hermione covered her mouth in shock.Wood and the rest of the team had similar expressions to her, looking terrified.
"What's wrong?" Harry asked vaguely, swallowing his last mouthful hastily.
"...Silent Curse!" George popped out these few words from his mouth, with an overwhelmed expression on his face.
"He's only in the second grade!" Fred was dumbfounded. The silent spell is only required to be learned in the fifth grade, and they haven't mastered it yet, why is it so easy for the second grader?
"This is the No.1 of the first grade! It's really amazing!" Angelina Johnson expressed her shock and admiration.
"...he smiled! So charming!" Harry almost fell down when he heard this.Am I mistaken... He straightened his chin with some difficulty and turned to Katie Bell, who was talking, with a fascinated look on her face.He looked at Tom, then at Katie, and suddenly a sour feeling came over him.Hello! Are you being nympho compared to the second grade boy you are younger? He slandered angrily.
As a result, even after the training was over, everyone expressed admiration for Harry's flying skills, and no one looked at him with that kind of scrutiny anymore, and Harry still felt uncomfortable. He thought of the more and more attention they were getting on the road, and he had a bad feeling.
