Chapter 28 The Monk Part 3

After the rebellion of the princes, the taxation and corvee of the court became increasingly heavy.

Many men mutilated themselves to avoid military disasters, and some hid in temples, or listed their farmland under the name of temples to avoid heavy taxes and corvees.

In troubled times, people were displaced.Human life is like a mustard, and all living beings seek safety.

The imperial court is untrustworthy, and they place their hopes on gods and Buddhas.

Before the new emperor stabilized the government, Nanliang was in chaos for a while. Coupled with the active preaching of monks and nuns, all kinds of karma happened, and more and more people became monks and believed in Buddhism.

As a result, "the wealth of the world is very rich, and the Buddha has seven or eight."

Pagodas were erected one after another, temples were built one after another, and golden statues were molded one after another, and the Buddhist incense was extremely prosperous.

The abbot of Fahua Temple was not happy but worried, and often sighed to Xie Ange: "I'm afraid we, monks and nuns, will not be blessed to enjoy the burning oil and the blooming flowers."

He can't manage other temples, but Fahua Temple can still manage the one-third of an acre of land.

Most of the incense money collected by Fahua Temple is disseminated through porridge and medicine. It only accepts young orphans as disciples, never recruits young and middle-aged people, does not expand the land of the temple, does not build golden bodies, and lives in poverty.

The abbot is a rare understanding person, and his worries are not unfounded.

This is not without precedent. The Northern Qi Dynasty exterminated Buddhism. Although Emperor Wu who exterminated Buddhism died suddenly, the recluses who were exterminated and the burned scriptures and statues never came back.

Xie Ange could only comfort him: "There is no way to misfortune or good fortune, only people call. Good and evil will be rewarded like a shadow. ①"

Seeing the abbot's subtle expression, Xie Ange added: "Karma retribution, reincarnation is unpleasant. Planting good causes will naturally bring good results, and planting evil causes to seek good results, isn't it absurd?"

The abbot nodded, with an inscrutable expression, and said, "Knowing Buddhism is very good."

"Thank you Master for teaching."

Abbot suddenly became suspicious.

People in the world only know that he approves orders, but they don't know that he is also good at stargazing and divination.

The old abbot, who is over [-] years old, has watched the sky at night for three consecutive years, rain or shine, and knows that Buddhism has flourished, declined, and even perished.

The moon is cloudy and sunny, and the river is ebb and flow.

The old abbot has lived for a long time and has seen a lot. What kind of joys and sorrows has he not seen?

His greatest insight into the world is impermanence—everything in the world is impermanent.

In the twinkling of an eye, the high family fell down, and the poor family rose.

In a blink of an eye, everything was ripe and ripe, and he died young.

Turning around, the husband and wife became enemies, fighting each other.

Nothing is eternal. Power, wealth, emotion, dynasty, religion, family... are all short-lived, just a small wave in the world, and only the time that flows quietly is eternal.

Abbot Jiechen is a human being after all, in the world of mortals, he naturally has the seven emotions and six desires. He can accept the decline of Buddhism, but not the demise of Buddhism.

Inspiration from the stars, spreading the wings of thinking.

The Buddha descended from heaven is the old abbot's greatest hope.

He is willing to believe in the enlightenment of the heavens, and also in the ability of the Buddha.

Buddha also lived up to his expectations, young and intelligent, calm and calm, learning the Dharma is as natural as drinking water and eating, and discussing the Dharma with others is like a surging river, unstoppable.

However, quitting anger always has an extremely awkward feeling, and he never knew where this feeling came from before.

Now, he understands.

Son of the Buddha, Buddha statues are born from the outside, and the bones of the Tao are formed from within.

He is a Buddha, but also the incarnation of Tao.

Buddhism was born in ancient India. Prince Siddhartha saw the reincarnation of all living beings, and could not be freed from birth, old age, sickness and death. Therefore, he became a monk with great compassion and practiced in order to find a way to free the world from the eight sufferings.

He practiced hard for many years, realized the true meaning of life and the truth of the universe, and mastered the method of transcending reincarnation, so he was called Buddha.

During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Buddhism was introduced to my country from west to east, and it was divided into three branches—Northern Buddhism (Han Buddhism), Southern Buddhism (Theravada Buddhism), and Tibetan Buddhism (Lamaism).

In order to preach, the teachings of Buddhist scriptures at that time were fused with local religion and culture to meet the requirements of the rulers, so as to obtain the soil for development.

The full name of Buddha is Buddha, which means the enlightened one.

Buddhism believes that everything arises and dies for a reason—all things arise and all things die.All living beings sink into the sea of suffering, birth, old age, sickness and death, parting from love, resentment of monks, failure to seek, and blazing five shades. Only the sage who cuts off greed, anger, and ignorance can escape the cycle of life and death and reach the state of Nirvana.

From a distance, the old abbot saw that he was wearing a jade-colored uniform, sitting cross-legged on the futon, twirling Buddhist beads, and preaching sutras in a harmonious and beautiful rhythm.

The sound is very special, like a cold spring hitting jade, or rain hitting plantains. When you hear it, it's like pouring a glass of ice water in summer. It feels cool and refreshing.

All the monks, old and young, sat under his head, their eyes fixed on it, their concentration unwavering, indulging in the bursts of Sanskrit sounds.

The wind has subsided, the clouds have rested, and the birds have stopped on the branches.

The superb Dharma is persuasive and seductive, leading believers into the heaven of thought.

At this moment, the world is silent and the flowers bloom silently.

After Xie Ange stopped, it took a long time for a monk who woke up to break the silence and went forward to ask for advice.

Puzzled monks lined up to ask Master Liaoran for advice, looking at Xie Ange with worship and admiration.

Patiently answering one by one, after the last monk left, Xie Ange suddenly looked straight at the old abbot, his clear eyes reflected the clouds in the sky, the trees on the ground, and the person in front of him, like a Buddha holding a flower, and smiled slightly.

The old abbot didn't dodge or dodge, and couldn't help but smile back.

At this moment, the old abbot finally understood where everyone's admiration for him as a disciple came from.

In his life, he has seen too many smiles, some are flattering, some are contrived, some are hypocritical, some are bitter, but there are very few genuinely happy smiles, because the world is full of furnaces and all living beings are suffering.

I have also seen the pure and flawless smiles of children, but they are as fragile as glass.

I have also seen the smile of a woman who gave birth to a son, full of satisfaction and pride, but mixed with too much worldliness and selfishness, not pure.

But it is rare to see such a smile, it is like rain after the sky.

Although he is a young man, he has a heart as broad and open-minded as the sky.

All suffering will recede in such a smile, and all darkness will dissipate in such a smile.

He is fearless, as if nothing is difficult in this world.

This is not the fearlessness of the ignorant, but the calmness and perseverance that have seen the wind and rain, and gone through all kinds of dangers.

A little proud, a little proud, it should be, and it is always flawless.

Like a polished jade in the rough, the treasure is self-evident, needless to say.

Jiechen thought, if the Buddha is like this, even if he has the bones of the Tao, I will recognize it.

Put your hands together and chant the Buddha's name.

My Buddha is merciful and forgives my disciples.

***

Seeing the master smiling, closing his eyes and muttering, he left without saying a word.

Xie Ange: "..."

What is this operation?

Sigh silently, when will this boring day end?

In the previous life, for the sake of cultivation, I often retreated, nested in one place, and did not move for ten or eight years, and it was not a problem.

Because the strength and results brought about by cultivation are visible to the naked eye, and every effort is responded to, so no matter how lonely I am, I can bear it.

In this world, the Buddhist scriptures of Fahua Temple have been read all over, and those who have studied philosophy and read Taoist scriptures have no problem understanding Buddhism.

Combining one's own experience and comprehension, it is also easy to come up with new insights, so that it is called savvy.

In fact, in Xie Ange's view, the purpose of Buddhists is to see through suffering and self from the Buddha's education, to obtain the method of transcending the eight sufferings, eliminating all troubles, and finally becoming a Buddha.

In a sense, Buddhism is not a religion, because Buddhism does not recognize the existence of a Creator and belongs to the category of atheism.Just like calling "wisdom" "philosophy", it is more accurate to call "Buddhism" "Buddhism".

Buddhism has very strict teachings and rich scriptures, and it pays great attention to spiritual enjoyment and blessings in the afterlife.

Sometimes, Xie Ange has the illusion that he is a psychiatrist, because his main job is to guide the monks to learn Buddhism, and occasionally relieve the psychological worries and pains of the pilgrims.

But after a long time, you will feel extremely boring, and you will be very still and want to move.

Happiness belongs to others, pain belongs to others, excitement belongs to others, and loneliness belongs to oneself.

The freedom of heart and mind is not knowing where you are.

Of course, a temple cannot stop Xie Ange's footsteps.Apart from this wall, what stopped him was kindness and responsibility.

Human beings are born with reason and measure, and cannot do whatever they want.

The only one who can do whatever he wants is the omniscient and omnipotent god.

And Xie Ange is just an ordinary person among all living beings.
