[Criminal Minds] Wooden Legs of Justice

Chapter 20 [Case 2] Up the Mountain

Everyone has an expression of reminiscence: This saying is so familiar, is it true?

"Leo, last time in the Virginia Killer, you said the victim looked familiar." The little doctor quickly found the source of everyone's familiarity with his unusually developed head.

"Didn't you see the victim somewhere again?" Everyone in BAU looked at Leo with a contemptuous expression.

This is too ridiculous, let Leo see it every time?Isn't that everyone who has been seen by Leo should be careful?

"No, it just looks familiar." Leo looked up and searched carefully in his memory, making sure that he had never seen the victim anywhere before. But what happened to this familiar feeling?

At this time, everyone heard the sheriff's suppressed sobs.

"Ah!" Reid suddenly screamed, and he looked at the sheriff in disbelief. Now everyone in BAU focused their attention on the face of the middle-aged sheriff.

"She is my daughter." The man choked up and said.

Everyone in the BAU fell silent. They thought of the little girl who the sheriff said was watching "Twilight", now lying in the cold forensic room...

I have to say that the victim and the sheriff still have similarities. However, Leo can look "familiar" like this... What kind of ability is this!

"Human inheritance is a very magical thing." Leo said to the curious little doctor.

"Indeed, DNA self-replicates. According to Mendel's three laws of genetics, the similarity between a daughter and a father will be more than 60%." The little doctor said. "But you're amazingly observant, Leo! How did you see that?"

"Do you see the curvature of the outer auricle of their ears? It's the same here." Leo pointed to the photo and explained to Reid: "The human auricle is genetic, and the cartilage tissue is basically the same. So, look at the bridge of the nose ..."

The little doctor looked at Leo with admiration. The big lion is proud.

The third body was that of a 13-year-old girl who was found in an abandoned cabin in the forest. The local police thought it was a forest fire, but after putting out the fire, they found the charred body.

"Scorched?" Reid asked, tilting his head in confusion: "Is there no smoke in the lungs?"

"Yes." The sheriff looked at Reid in surprise.Ever since Leo and the others recognized their daughter just now, he felt that the BAUs were simply a bunch of magicians.

"Should have been burned after death. I don't quite understand, but it doesn't look like a corpse."

"Forensics found some remnants of fibers." Fibers of flax were found in the ashes.

"So, clothes have been replaced." Rossi concluded that linen is not a fabric for winter.

"How do you know it was burned after death?" Leo asked the little doctor with great interest.

"I can't see the body in the first sentence, after all, it has been destroyed. But the second victim looks painless. The body is placed in a peaceful and even graceful posture." Reid looked like he didn't want to say the last word.

If it was the same person who did it, he would not treat the target with painful torture. Everyone in BAU knows that they like clean clothes to make the corpse look peaceful and painless... These all outline a killer who has remorse but can't control himself.Either it will be schizophrenia, dual personality, or gang crime.

"But the murderer's choice of target is women, weak women." Leo said.So the possibility of a gang committing the crime was ruled out.

"For a pedophile, the second victim was clearly overage," Reid added.

Except for the replaced clothes, there is absolutely no commonality in the murderer's choice of targets.

"A killer like this can quickly evolve into a brutal and unremorseful killer," Rossi told the sheriff.

Garcia is searching for residents with mental issues, but there are too many residents who fit this profile.

"He can't hide it so well!" Garcia couldn't believe that her omnipotent search engine didn't locate the right people.

"We may be running out of time," hotch told the crowd. In the previous cases, it took less than a day for the victim to go missing to be killed.

"If someone is missing, our time to rescue is extremely short."

Christmas morning is always full of joy.Neighbors greet each other with happy holidays, and children rush to get their presents... but this kind of harmonious scene is obviously not BAU.

Dawn comes later in winter. Reid's thick dark circles made his demeanor suddenly gloomy.Shadows hung on the pale skin like a young vampire.

Outside the window is the moisture from Victoria Bay, and the sea breeze sends them into the huge Cordillera Mountains, and then the moisture gets lost in the forest and stays here for a long time.

The clamminess seems to have penetrated into the bones of a person.

Reid looked out the window at the moss on the trees, trying to move his shoulders and neck.He felt like they were rusted parts, creaking with every movement.

This office is probably the only one in the entire town of Detiger that doesn't have a Christmas atmosphere - Leo made an irresponsible inference.

Reid leaned against the bed alone, holding a paper cup of coffee.Three quarters of an hour ago Leo decided to go to the forensic room again.

Just looking at the autopsy report made Leo feel that he had overlooked something. In other words, no one knows where the examination of the corpse should focus. And without seeing the actual corpse, it's impossible to sense the killer's emotions.

Reid doesn't quite think he's going in the wrong direction with his profile. He thinks this is a murderer who is full of remorse after committing the crime.

But if something was missing from the scene, it's not certain.

Both the first sentence and the third body are destroyed, only the pose of the second body gives Reid the sense that the murderer is trying to make the victim feel "comfortable".

Such a profile lacks supporting examples! Reid thought to himself. And if it was the murderer who destroyed the body, then it would be completely contrary to his profile—it was the behavior of a rational and brutal murderer. Moreover, such a murderer would definitely not be a schizophrenic.

But what about the second victim? This is contradictory... there must be something wrong.

Just when Reid was standing alone by the window in a daze, he put a hand on the shoulder of the little doctor, and put him in his arms without hesitation.

"Hey, kid, do you want to go and see the scene?" Leo, who just came back from the forensic room, hugged the little doctor happily, who didn't react at all.

It was early in the morning when they arrived in the small town of Ditige, and it was inconvenient to enter the mountains.

"Good idea!" The little doctor dropped the paper cup of coffee in his hand, quickly put on a scarf, took a deep breath, and followed Leo out the door.

Once outside the police station, Reid didn't think it was such a good idea at all.

The icy water vapor that has been shrouding Washington state in a dense fog filled the air, frozen into tiny pellets of hard ice.It was sprinkled down one after another, and it hurt to hit the face.

And when they drove into the rugged forest, the temperature dropped quite a bit.

"Boom!" The police Chevrolet sank into the mud in the forest, making a loud roar, and the wheels began to spin idly. But it was impossible to move one step forward. The wet fallen leaves were thickly piled under the wheels, slipping constantly.

"It looks like I can't move anymore." Reid muttered depressingly. It's really bad for travel!

"Get out of the car. I can't move anymore." Leo poked his head through the car window and said to the little doctor. He just got out of the car to check the situation, and it was obvious that the car couldn't leave. If there was his George Patton, the current situation would never happen... Harrington wondered when it was time to improve the transportation for the BAU.

In the end they had to abandon the car and walk on foot on the muddy road. The moist and cold air rushed into the lung cavity, causing the little doctor's chest to throb.

I am really not suitable for any sports! Reid thought to himself.

Reid leaned over and coughed uncomfortably. What's worse, if you go further into the mountains, there are no roads. They struggled to keep their balance in the slippery dirt and leaf litter.

"Hey, kid, are you okay?" Leo asked, leaning on the weak little doctor. The little doctor, who had stayed up all night, coughed so weakly that his two little deer eyes looked hazy.Seeing that Leo was distracted for a while... If the little doctor is lying on some kind of big bed, pitifully, looking like you can taste it... Stop, stop! Leo yelled at the little devil who was muttering in his heart.

Reid tried to make himself look less useless, but clearly failed. There was a sick flush on his pale face, and reid could feel Leo looking at him with even more worried eyes.

"Maybe I should have left him in the car." Leo thought, but wisely kept his mouth shut.He didn't want to hit the little doctor's higher self-esteem than ordinary people.

Leo took off his scarf and wrapped it around Reid's mouth and nose: "Breathe slowly, close your mouth, and exhale through your nose... that's right."

Reid felt better soon. The air is warmed in the interlayer of the scarf and no longer irritates his fragile lungs.

"Thank you, Leo. You are so considerate." The little animal with only round eyes buzzing thanked Leo.

"Oh, it's okay..." I didn't want to hear that, if only there was a thank you kiss or something. The big lion thought to himself.

The road ahead is even more difficult to walk, with steep and skinny mountains, and occasional streams wash over the slippery land; piles of bushes often block the feasible path; evergreen trees block out the sun...In broad daylight, the forest It's completely dark like a moonless night.

Leo held his sidearm in one hand, a police flashlight strapped to his forearm, and held Reid with the other.

Leo still seems to be able to walk like this, so it's not easy.In contrast, Reid, who was almost on all fours, looked even more embarrassed.

"Damn mercenary background! He should be in the Navy SEALs!" Reid thought resentfully.

"Hey, your gun is not a Smith. Wesson 64!" The little doctor exclaimed in surprise. He found that the gun in Leo's hand was not the usual gun used by BAU.But the little doctor who doesn't like guns by nature obviously doesn't know the talent of guns just by looking at them.

"Sig220." Leo replied to the skeptical little doctor: "I hope you won't tell hotch."

Reid's expression fluctuated between telling or concealing, and finally settled on keeping a secret.

"Well, a gun that costs more than $4000...is still a limited edition..." Reid said dryly.Be aware that BAU's salary is not enough to pay. "And your George Patton... I guess it's still bulletproof... What on earth are you thinking? It seems like someone is going to kill you anytime!"

"If my car was there, believe me reid, we wouldn't need to walk up the hill now!"

Reid was silent for a while, thinking about the performance of the car worth at least 80 US dollars: "You are right." Finally, he said.
