Bomb Disposal Elite
Chapter 29
"Got it." Rick sighed, "Damn it! If it's carrying explosives, let them blow themselves up!"
Sean frowned, this situation is the most dangerous. The opponent could tie the explosives to his body, or abandon them in that building, or hide them somewhere and detonate them manually. With so many uncertain factors, the EOD team can't play their role even if they go there.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at their destination.
Most of the buildings in this area were destroyed by the explosion. The U.S. military once thought about clearing them and building some bungalows for civilians to live in, but since someone stepped on an IED (earth bomb) and it was blown up, this idea can only be shelved.
The three-story building in front of me used to be an elementary school, half of the third floor was blown up, and the remaining two floors are still quite intact, and it is in ruins, which is really suitable for the rebels to hide.
But when Sean and the others arrived, the firefight with the rebels had come to an end.
They met with the leader of the assault force, who told them that the rebels had now been wiped out, but it was not sure whether there were any of them inside.
"These lunatics hid a lot of explosives inside, and some semi-finished bombs. I need you to go in and make an assessment. These explosives are temporarily stable, and whether we can ship them out."
"Understood." Hawkins turned to look at Sean and Rick, and signaled them to go with his chin.
Hawkins asked the assault force to evacuate the building, leaving only a three-man team to go in with the EOD team.
"Are you sure we're going to enter an unstable area full of explosives?" Rick straightened his helmet and held his gun.
"When you're alive, you'll never guess what the next moment will be." Sean sneered and raised his gun.
Hawkins was already walking ahead of them, his back was slender and steady, like a movie screen.
They entered the building, came to the hallway, and walked along the wall, six of them.Almost at the turn, Hawkins made a gesture, and Sean led the three people behind him to the other side of the corridor quickly, and then Sean walked forward with a gun in his hand. There was no one or anyone near the upward stairs on this floor. Something like a wire.
"Clear." Sean made a gesture, and everyone went upstairs. After ten seconds, they came to the transfer area on the second floor.
Just when everyone was about to move on, Sean stopped.
"Old trick." Sean squatted down and stretched out two fingers to Hawkins. The other party understood, came to his side with small steps, and took out the scissors from the tool bag.
There is a thin thread on the ground, with straws cut into scallion-like pieces. This is the most common soil bomb in Baghdad, a Coke bottle is enough, and when you step on it thinking it's garbage, you're done.
Sean patted the top of his head and made a gesture, which meant that there must be rebels here, so be careful.
The earth bomb was easily dismantled, but it also left everyone with lingering fears.Know that they are in the light and the rebels are in the shadows.
Rick swallowed: "I feel like I'm taking a shower in a place without walls, and then someone looks at me and I don't know where the guy is hiding."
"A great metaphor." Sean responded softly, in fact his nerves were also tense.
They were divided into two teams. Hawkins led the two of them into an abandoned classroom, and Rick, Sean and another soldier entered the classroom next to them. They have to be extremely careful, stepping on anything that looks normal will not be a joke.
Sean looked up and looked around, and Rick tacitly took care of the left and right fronts for him.
"Holyshit!" Shawn yelled.
Rick looked towards Sean's line of sight and saw a bomb hanging on the wall more than two meters high. The iron wire without the outer skin went down from the bomb to the ground along the crack of the door. If he hadn't looked up and seen the bomb earlier, It is really hard to find the leads on the ground.
"How many fucking traps are there?" The soldier behind said in a calm tone, but no one would believe that his mood at the moment was as calm as his tone.
"Don't worry, the government will give you a pension and a national flag that can cover the coffin." Sean contacted Hawkins and asked him to come over.
"At this height, should we prepare a ladder, or can we just cut the lead wire on the ground?" Sean looked at Hawkins who came around from another classroom.
"Sean, help me up."
"Thank God you are nearly 1.9 meters tall." Sean put down the gun and half knelt on the ground, and then Hawkins stepped on his shoulders.
Three other American soldiers came to guard the entrance of the classroom, and Rick stared at the exit with a gun.
Thanks to the weight-bearing training in the special forces, when Hawkins stepped on Sean's shoulders, he didn't tremble within half a minute.
The bomb had been successfully defused, and Hawkins was detaching the detonator, intending to cut it off.
Rick frowned, and there was a small shadow extending from the door on the ground. Although it was only a little bit, he had a feeling that it was a person.
Rick picked up a stone from the ground and threw it.
The shadow on the ground trembled slightly, and Rick was sure it was a person, a person who was scared and impatient.
Sean knew from Rick's movement that there was someone outside the classroom. He made a movement and then walked over. Before he could reach the wall completely, the shadow rushed out.
Rick raised his gun, and one bullet killed the opponent.
Then, both Rick and Sean froze.
It was a girl. She looked only in her teens, with two braids, fell to the ground, her eyes wide open, as if she hadn't realized the coming of that moment.
"Oh, mygod! Oh, mygod!" Rick stepped back step by step, sat on the ground with a crash, and dropped his gun to the side.
The girl had a gun in her hand, magazines on her shoulders, and two bombs tied to her waist.
"She's just a kid...just a kid..." A soldier ran up and helped Rick to his feet.
Sean also froze there.
They were trained on many things, including how to accurately kill an enemy with a single shot, but never children.
Hawkins successfully separated the detonator, and Rick's disbelieving voice echoed in the classroom.
"Tell me Sean...she's alive...she's alive..."
The soldier next to him kept reassuring him, "Brother! You did nothing wrong! If you don't shoot, she will kill us, maybe blow us all up!"
"She must have just come here with her daddy...she must not know what she's doing...God...forgiveme..." Rick shook his head, his expression pained, his face wet with tears.
Sean was still standing there, the girl's eyes were on him.
It fell straight to the ground, as if entering the deepest part of his soul.
Sean remembered that when he was Vincent, his cousin was only this old, and every time he came home from the Air Force base on vacation, the girl would pester him to help with his homework.
"Why..." Sean took a breath and took a step back.
Hawkins put his hand over his eyes, "Don't look, Sean. Don't look."
"Oh, if I hadn't lured her out...maybe she just wanted to hide there...didn't want to come out at all."
"You didn't do anything wrong." Hawkins took Sean away from that position step by step.
Half an hour later, the U.S. military officially evacuated the building.
It was very quiet in the car.It wasn't Rick or Sean who was driving, because they were sitting in the back and Hawkins was in the driver's seat.
Rick kept his eyes closed: "I'm going to hell, Sean...I'm going to hell."
Sean stared ahead with no expression on his face, or he didn't look anywhere.
He held Rick's hand tightly, and couldn't tell whether it was Rick or himself who was trembling, "You did nothing wrong, Rick. If you didn't shoot at that time, I would have died."
"But I killed a kid. God, why does the kid have a gun?"
"Ask her father." Or ask God.
Sean's throat was also a little choked.
When the car returned to the camp, Anna stood not far away and looked at Rick.
Rick suddenly fell into Sean's arms, "I don't want to get out of the car...I don't want Anna to see me..."
Sean's eyes quivered. And Anna came to the car window, Rick locked the door, and Anna couldn't open it.She could only reach in and press Rick's face: "Honey, I know what happened, I know what's going on."
"I killed a child..." Rick turned his head to avoid Anna's hand.
"To save all your comrades in arms." Anna wiped away the tears on his face, "I know you and what kind of person you are... so let me be with you, okay?"
Rick finally returned to Anna's arms.
Sean got out of the car quietly, and Hawkins was waiting for him not far away.
The day after that, they didn't have any assignments because of the psych evaluation.
Hawkins sat before Dr. Gray.
"I'm sure you can handle any problem."
"Yes, I was looking at the bomb when Rick fired it."
"Just because you can deal with any problem doesn't mean you don't have any problems in your head." Dr. Gray looked at him, his usually cynical eyes were solemn and oppressive.
"When I looked at Sean, he was standing next to the girl."
Dr. Gray didn't speak, just looked at him.
"He stayed there, motionless. If there is another enemy at this time, he must be dead."
Sean frowned, this situation is the most dangerous. The opponent could tie the explosives to his body, or abandon them in that building, or hide them somewhere and detonate them manually. With so many uncertain factors, the EOD team can't play their role even if they go there.
