[SSHP] End of life
Chapter 112
The place Harry chose to manifest was in a bush outside Hogsmeade village. He carefully put on the cloak of invisibility.
The owl waited at his feet all the while he moved. He knelt down and picked up the scroll it handed him.
After reading the short letter, he raised his hand and threw the owl into the air.The bird flew silently into the night, and he stood there for a moment.
Taking a deep breath, Harry put on the Invisibility Cloak and started walking in the direction of the Shrieking Shack.Hogsmeade village was not quiet, the Screaming Curse had been lifted by many wizards coming and going, and there were no Death Eaters watching over it.The mask was erected again in the direction of Hogwarts, and the rays of light of various colors converged into a thick line, hitting the mask heavily. But this time there were no meteor showers of boulders.
Lighting the tip of his wand, he walked carefully down the secret passage into the Shrieking Shack. The dust and scrambled footprints inside showed that it had hosted many people over a period of time, perhaps werewolves hiding here. They had all left about half an hour ago.
The war kicked off.
Harry walked out of the Shrieking Shack, and now he was inside Hogwarts. He stuffed his fingers into his mouth and let out a sharp whistle.A moment later, Hedwig's shadow emerged from the night, and Harry grabbed her and kissed the top of her head. She was very dissatisfied, but in the end she just turned her head to rub against his hand dotingly, and bit his finger lightly.
Harry folded the Invisibility Cloak and bound the watery fabric with a short thatch blade. He handed the little package to Hedwig, and when she delivered it to Dumbledore, Dumbledore would take down the castle's defenses and it would all really begin.
"Goodbye, my girl," said Harry softly. He stood on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, watching the little white flying to the top of the tallest tower under the illumination of various lights.
The Black Lake boiled behind him, and the wind circled the castle.Boulders and armor stood guard on the bridge again, and some plants poked their heads around the ramparts, shaking branches covered with spikes or ominous buds.Harry looked at the views.
Everyone is still there except him.He succeeded, he rewrote everything. No deep pain seized him any more, he gazed at the night sky calmly, and the mask suddenly disappeared. He took one last look at the top of the Astronomy Tower, then turned and walked into the dark forest. He heard a sound very much like a werewolf screaming from the depths of the Forbidden Forest.
Harry was walking on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. He tripped over a tree root protruding from the ground and hit the trunk sideways.Something in his pocket hit him, and he jumped up in pain. It's the golden snitch.
Only then did he remember that Dumbledore had said twice that he should open the snitch at the end.It was the first trophy he caught when he was 11 years old, and his hands couldn't get it to open. The first thing that touches the Snitch to open it - is his lips.He almost swallowed the thing.
He took the snitch out of his pocket and pressed it to his lips. "Now you can open it, at the end," he said softly.
The Snitch folded its wings and split in two down the middle.A gray stone appeared in front of Harry, its shape was very regular, and it shone with a dull luster.
It really is the resurrection stone.Harry recognized it, it had appeared in Snape's memory before, and he had seen it set in the dusty ring. But what can this stone do?Dumbledore gave it to him twice in a row, telling him to gamble his fate with it.But a fairy tale is just a fairy tale, it cannot be true.He is dead.
All along, what he has done is to obey the arrangement and desperately want to win. It's all coming to an end now.He finally had a chance to choose, but he still chose to trade his life for the final success. For the greatest benefit, for everyone, he decided to give up Snape and himself.
He turned the stone three times in the palm of his hand.
There is no moonlight at Hogwarts.A green light shot out from somewhere, and the images of skulls and snakes twisted in the sky, casting a green shimmer.Voldemort used the Amplifying Charm to shout over the entire Hogwarts.Harry ignored these, he stared intently at the darkness in front of him, and the translucent soul seemed to follow him all the time, gradually appearing on the left, right and in front of him.He was silent, so they just looked at him, smiled and approached him, then walked away.
Harry watched his parents slowly disappear into the deepening night. It wasn't the darkest hour before dawn, but there was silence in the Forbidden Forest. He thought he'd beg, to have them by his side to give him the courage to finally face it all, but he didn't.He can't ask his parents to stay with him, because he won't need anything anymore. He will forget everything, what he longed for, what he had, what he never had enough time to keep, is no longer needed. He couldn't keep the stone, it didn't really bring people back to life, it only summoned phantoms.Like the Mirror of Erised.
The soul that appeared in front of him was always just the deepest desire of the human heart, and he could not leave this stone... If someone wanted to resurrect him, if Snape wanted to resurrect him... the result would only be a sad answer that would make the heart collapse in an instant. This man has done enough, he needs to move on - everyone needs to.That's why he didn't leave Snape with anything of his own.
He wants him to come out as soon as possible.
Harry wanted to laugh lightheartedly, make one last heroic mockery of fate and life damned before he died, but he found he couldn't.The corners of his mouth twitched upwards, eventually twisting into a bitter shape.
If it was in another time and space, he might have anxiously considered whether it would hurt before he died, because he has not experienced more and still has nostalgia for life.If it had been the beginning of the journey, he might have embraced his fate, because he had had enough of the damned responsibilities that had been imposed upon him.And now, he could face death bravely without expecting any more. His life seems to have just begun, and he still wants to spend decades, or hundreds of years, or even longer, with his lover until eternity. They will forget all the heavy past, and only remember the years when they were together. They fight and disagree, but still love each other.
But after struggling so much, he still came to such an end.
Harry took a deep breath of the damp, cold air in the Forbidden Forest. So fresh and full of vitality. He is now facing death, overcoming rather than accepting.Life is so short and fragile, not even enough to hold half of the silent tenderness. He let go of almost everything, his resentment for Snape, the only thing he would take with him.
He walked forward. In the dark among the trees, he saw little campfires. He had never known that there was such a large open space in the Forbidden Forest.Hiding behind the last line of defense, he saw Voldemort sitting on a rock in front of the campfire, holding the Elder Wand.Bellatrix sat next to him, looking very haggard.Lucius, Draco, and Narcissa stood at the edge of the clearing, anxious.Draco's face was pale, and his eyes, hidden by his long bangs, kept rolling from side to side.Fenrir Greyback was not with them.
None of the Death Eaters who had been on the death list were here. They literally disappear. But the number of Death Eaters didn't decrease too much. It seems that during his one-year reign, Voldemort has absorbed many new recruits in the Ministry of Magic or elsewhere. But he doesn't have to remember them anymore, and he can't tell more people their names.None of the new Death Eaters were qualified to stand beside or behind Voldemort, and he didn't trust them.
Now, he was going out to face Voldemort.Even if he died, he would never do it in a cowardly way.
He raised the hand holding the resurrection stone tightly, trying to throw the stone far away.
"Petrification!" a hoarse voice called from behind Harry.
Harry stiffened, but not from horror. He'll get to everyone's ends, but never in this way.His wand fell to the ground, and his whole figure was like a plank, tilted upright to the side, and propped on the trunk beside him.
"We found him! The little bastard..." said another voice ecstatically, coming up and kicking Harry hard in the ass, knocking him face down on the ground. The moment his forehead touched the ground, Harry seemed to hear a sound of gold and stone colliding.
"It seems that he wants to die by himself? This man is a heroic little idiot!"
Another voice trailed off. "But you can't say that to the master! This is a great achievement! Don't let him escape! Just like that, float him up and give him to the master. You can say that we caught him outside the Forbidden Forest!"
"Hey! This time..."
Harry listened to the Death Eaters talking about him as if about a trophy. He smiled wryly in his heart. The petrification spell was so powerful that his whole body was so stiff that he couldn't even move his fingers a millimeter. It's a good thing he didn't throw the Resurrection Stone, if he had, the Death Eaters would have seen it and got it back. They'll do worse things with it.Now he wondered if he had held his hand tight enough that the Death Eaters couldn't see what he was holding. The more he thought about it, the more his heart beat, but he couldn't raise his head to look at his right hand. He rolled his eyes upwards desperately, but he still couldn't see it.He thinks he looks like the Statue of Liberty now.
A footstep sounded beside him, mingled with the snapping of leaves and dead branches. He saw the hem of the cloak. The black-robed Death Eater walked up to his head, picked up the wand he had dropped, and he was levitated by another.
He held this pose of triumph and freedom, the ground receding before him, covered with moss and dry foliage. He was thrown to the ground, and there was loud laughter all around.
Someone walked over slowly, calm and light.Harry judged it was Voldemort.A force lifted him from the ground, and he was thrown back face-up.Above him were tall trees that towered into the sky, their winter-thick branches blocking the dark sky.Voldemort stood over his head. The Malfoys were laughing dryly after the Death Eaters, and he noticed a little cold sweat on Draco's brow. Then he never looked at anyone else but glared at Voldemort. The ruthless bastard and his men ruined his last act of heroism. He was really going to be "the boy who was killed by Voldemort without a fight".
"I want to have another duel with you, but I don't want to waste any more time." Voldemort's red eyes were surprisingly bright, and his face was full of ecstasy and sarcasm.Even looking up, Harry couldn't see his nostrils.Voldemort circled in front of Harry, his mouth forming a weird grin, and pointed his wand at Harry.
"Avada Kedavra!"
The author has something to say: Well, the boy who was killed.laugh.
