withered lover

Chapter 12 Sunset

Shen Guiwan was bored at home for a long time, and finally walked out of the house on a sunny afternoon.

This is the long-lost free time, and he decided to go a little farther.

Before going out, Shen Guiwan stood in front of the closet, habitually picked up his windbreaker.

But he touched the thin fabric in his hand, hesitated for a few seconds, put it down again, and picked up Du Zhinian's coat hanging beside him.

The place he was going to was very cold, so a thick and warm overcoat was more suitable than a thin windbreaker.

Shen Guiwan changed his clothes and went out with his mobile phone and some coins.

Instead of taking a taxi, he walked to the bus station one kilometer away from the community and waited on the platform for the only bus that stopped at this station.

Shen Guiwan waited for more than ten minutes before the long-overdue bus stopped in front of him.

He stepped into the car, dropped a few coins, and the coins landed in the coin box with a clanging sound.

Shen Guiwan sat on the back seat of the bus, the sunlight slipped past his hands, and cast shadows on the light-colored trousers.

The bus took him through most of the city, from the suburbs to the city, the scenery outside the window changed from desolate to bustling, and the speed gradually slowed down.

The sun fell on the ground through the shade of the trees, and the breeze blew through, setting off golden waves in the sea of asphalt.

People on the street gathered together in twos and threes, their wanton laughter and fragmented conversations were secretly swept into the carriage by the wind, and fell into Shen Guiwan's ears, turning into vague whispers.

The bus drove forward for tens of meters and stopped before the intersection. Shen Guiwan leaned against the window and looked at the young man and woman on the sidewalk who were arm in arm and talking eagerly.

The man turned his head slightly and said something to the woman. The woman tapped the man's shoulder lightly, and then both of them laughed.

Shen Guiwan watched their backs disappear into the distance, and slowly lowered his eyes.

He observed every move of the crowd through the glass window, but could not blend in with them.

This piece of glass is like a transparent cage, completely isolating Shen Guiwan from the outside world.

The bus stopped and went in the city center and finally stopped at the terminal.

Shen Guiwan got out of the car, a gust of salty cold wind with the smell of the sea brushed past his nose, and slipped in along the collar and sleeves of his coat.

The sea breeze was bitingly cold, but Du Zhinian's coat was very thick, covering Shen Guiwan's body warmly.

Shen Guiwan put his hands in his pockets, and walked west along the boundary between the road and the beach.

After autumn, the beach was very deserted. He walked a few hundred meters and only saw a few fishermen carrying small buckets to catch the sea.

Shen Guiwan stood there watching for a while, then continued to walk forward against the cold wind.

The west side of the beach is much more desolate than the bathing beach in the east, a few black reefs are exposed among the soft sand grains, and the sharp corners cut through the stretch of sand-colored satin.

Shen Guiwan walked a little further, and the beach slowly disappeared, replaced by a huge black rocky beach.

The surface of the reef is uneven, and after the low tide left puddles of different depths, Shen Guiwan stepped on the reef covered with barnacles and walked towards the edge of the turbulent waves.

He stood still on the edge of the reef, the waves slapped on the reef, and the splashing water droplets fell on his shoes.

Shen Guiwan looked at the sky in the distance, the hot air he exhaled was blown away by the sea breeze, and the bright red sun in the distance was reflected in his translucent eyes.

It was only two o'clock in the afternoon when he went out, but it was already evening when he arrived at his destination.

The afterglow of the setting sun sprinkled on the sea, the sea surface and the sky were dyed the color of the setting sun, the strong orange spread to the distance, and finally faded into a light rose color.

Fiery golden waves glowed on the surface of the sea, flickering in the waves, and being smashed into pieces among the waves.

Shen Guiwan listened to the sound of the waves and tides, his eye sockets became moist under the blowing of the sea breeze.

The sunset that he saw in Du Zhinian's bedroom before was something he hadn't seen for a long time.

Shen Guiwan's room can't get the sun, neither can he see the sunrise nor the sunset, and the sky outside the window is always gray.

He could only take the bus for several hours to the beach when Shen Lu was not at home, watch the sunset for a while, and then hurry back on the last bus.

Shen Guiwan stood by the seaside for a while, and after the setting sun was completely swallowed by the waves, he walked back to the station with the last ray of light.

After sunset, the beach was even colder than during the day. Before six o'clock, there was only one bus waiting to depart in the parking lot.

Shen Guiwan sat in the last row of the bus and closed his eyes after the car started.

The bus pulled out of the platform slowly and passed quickly on the empty road.

The car drove smoothly, Shen Guiwan leaned against the window and dozed off for a while, and when he woke up, the car had just driven to the city center.

He leaned against the window and watched the bustling night scene in the city center when the phone in his pocket vibrated suddenly.

Shen Guiwan took out his mobile phone, and it turned out that it was Du Zhinian who hadn't contacted him for many days.

That man's contact was always stuck at the right time, as if he deliberately came to add a little bit of turmoil to Shen Guiwan's dull and boring life.

Du Zhinian invaded Shen Guiwan's life bit by bit, but there was always a space between the two of them that belonged to them, and Shen Guiwan didn't need to try his best to avoid questions about Shen Lu.

Because Du Zhinian wouldn't ask at all.

He picked up Du Zhinian's call, and the man's gentle voice came out of the phone with a smile: "Are you free tomorrow? I want to treat you to lunch."

"As compensation for last time."

Shen Guiwan shook the hand that was holding the phone, and then slowly released it.

"Okay." He hadn't communicated with anyone for a long time, and his voice was a little hoarse.

Du Zhinian heard something wrong in Shen Guiwan's voice, paused for a while, and asked again: "Do you want me to pick you up tomorrow, or should you come here?"

Shen Guiwan stayed by the seaside for too long, the cold wind made his throat uncomfortable, and it was even more uncomfortable when he spoke now.

He covered the phone with his hand, buried his head in the crook of his arm and coughed lightly, before saying, "Let me go."

Du Zhinian was quiet for a while, as if he had noticed Shen Guiwan's cough that he wanted to cover up.

But he didn't break it, he just said: "Then see you tomorrow."

Du Zhinian's voice came out of the phone, the tail of the sound dissipated in the air, and the bus stopped again.

It stopped at a platform somewhere in the city center and a young girl got on.

After swiping the card, she walked quickly to the window, waved to her friends on the platform, and had a bright smile on her face.

Shen Guiwan felt that it was time for him to hang up the phone, but he looked at the girl waving goodbye to his friend, and then heard Du Zhinian's voice, somehow he replied: "Well, see you tomorrow."

Du Zhinian on the other end of the phone was stunned for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed softly.

"Pay attention to rest, Shen Guiwan."

The phone screen lit up after the call was hung up, Shen Guiwan looked at the interface showing the end of the call, pressed the lock screen button, and stuffed the phone back into his pocket.

"See you tomorrow", three simple words, but it reveals the expectation of meeting.

Although Shen Guiwan didn't feel much when he heard it, he thought that Du Zhinian would probably like his answer like this.

When the bus was about to leave the city, it was stuck on the elevated highway for about ten minutes. By the time Shen Guiwan got off the bus, the time displayed on the electronic screen of the bus had changed from [-]:[-] pm to [-]:[-] pm.

The temperature lingering in the sun faded completely, and the temperature seemed to drop a few more degrees. Shen Guiwan was walking on the sidewalk, and the dim light cast by the street lamp illuminated the dead leaves blown down by the wind on the ground.

He stepped on the dry leaves, and the crisp cracking sound followed his footsteps.

On the way home, Shen Guiwan walked very slowly.

After staying outside alone for several hours and feeling the short and cramped freedom, Shen Guiwan's resistance to going home became more and more intense.

He didn't want to go back to the villa where only Shen Lu existed, nor did he want to go back to the room where the sun didn't shine.

But when he opened the door of the yard and saw the pitch-black villa, he remembered that Shen Lu had already gone on a business trip.

There is no one in this house who will wait for him to come home, and there is no scum who will get angry and violent because of his slightest behavior.

The villa was empty, except for Shen Guiwan, there was nothing.

Shen Guiwan stood in the dim living room, his thin figure blended into the darkness.

He closed his eyes and let out a long sigh.
