The Sensory Animals of Ston Hill
Chapter 10 Interrogation
"And then?" the officer asked.
"...and then he touched me." Grace replied tremblingly, perfectly expressing the cowardice and fear of a young innocent girl who had just been attacked and almost raped.
The police officer quickly took notes in his notebook, "Where did I touch you?"
Grace cast a quick glance at the Earl of Arundel, but he immediately realized that it was a wrong look.Because the police officer looked over with a layer of suspicion immediately, and pulled his peripheral vision further away, bringing the Earl of Arundel into his field of vision.
"Just tell the truth. You don't need to be ashamed before the law for things that don't violate justice." The earl said lightly.
The officer couldn't help but take another look at him, then refocused on Grace's face.
"He touched me...inside my dress." Grace looked down. His voice was soft, his neck was slender, and his shoulders were thin, making one feel like he was about to cry.
The police officer wrote it down truthfully, and did not ask too many details cruelly.
"and then."
"Then the earl and his servant came, and the earl fired a shot and frightened... him away...his servant, Mr. Wales, rode after him with his hounds. The earl brought me back."
"The Earl you mean is the Earl of Arundel, and 'he' means the grocer Jerry Thomson?"
"That's right, sir."
What a sensible and cooperative girl.
The inspector turned to the first few pages, and what the girl said was exactly what the Earl of Arundel had said.
He closed the book, stood up and bowed to the earl, and was about to thank Grace, when he saw his reddish eyes and the tip of his nose, he suddenly thought of something and asked, "At that time, I mean Jerry What were you doing when Thomson touched you?"
Grace's mind turned sharply, and his hesitation had already been noticed by the police officer, so she had no choice but to cover it up with ambiguous words, "I might be yelling."
"possible?"
"Yes, I was confused and scared."
"You noticed gunshots, horses, and hounds in a state of great fear and confusion?"
Grace knew what was wrong.
"Yes sir, although it's confusing, I'm sure I can see clearly."
"Did you really see clearly? You must have been crying a lot? Didn't the tears cloud your vision? Did the fear not interfere with your hearing? Are you sure you were really shouting out?"
Grace showed an unbelievable expression, and tears that symbolized grievance and humiliation immediately piled up in his eyes, "Mr. Sir, my eyes are full of tears now, but I can still see that the pen in your hand is black; Your doubts made me panic and confused, and I also felt angry. My heart beats faster now, no less than it was then, but these emotions did not prevent me from listening to you and answering your questions."
The police officer looked at him for a few seconds, got up and bent over to him, "Sorry, due to work needs, sometimes I need to ask some offensive questions."
Grace was stunned, and she didn't look smart at all.
After the police officer left, just as Grace was about to stand up from the large and comfortable sofa chair, Earl of Arundel leaned over and pinched her chin.
Gray Matter's gaze passed across his face calmly, and he looked at it for a while.
"Aren't you angry, Grace? You're the victim, but you're interrogated like a criminal just because you're...'woman'."
Grace's heart was beating fast, faster than it had been with the green-eyed hound, or with the officer.
"Not angry, it's my choice." Grace replied.
The fingers pinched on the chin tightened, Grace's face twisted slightly, and she whispered: "It hurts."
The count snorted coldly and let go.
Just when he was pleasantly surprised by the boy's newfound cunning, he was so stupid again.
"I'm already curious about who your sweetheart is." The earl mocked, and after finishing speaking, he realized that this mocking sentence was unnecessary.
The Earl of Arundel put on his hat and strode out of the tearoom.
"My lord..." Wales, Hou's servant in the room, approached and whispered something in his ear.
Arundell frowned after hearing this, then spread out, and kicked Welsh's knee violently.
Welsh fell to his knees in response, quickly got up, bent over and added: "He has lost so much blood, he must not be able to escape far...Even if he cannot be found, he must..."
"He must be dead," said the count firmly.
Only when the peddler Jerry died, did Grace have a permanent handle in his hands.
"...and then he touched me." Grace replied tremblingly, perfectly expressing the cowardice and fear of a young innocent girl who had just been attacked and almost raped.
