Chapter 16 Social Survey
Third Years can go to Hogsmeade for the weekend!
A guardian's signature is required to go to Hogsmeade, and Alice does not have a guardian.
But she wants to get the headmaster's signature!
In exchange, Alice received a long shopping list from Headmaster Dumbledore, though she decided to go to Honeydukes last.
Unlike other little wizards who are busy with love and shopping, Alice has more meaningful tasks.
Madame Puddieff's teahouse is very small, and it took Alice to find Mrs. Puddieff in the steaming fog after crossing groups of couples embracing intimately.
"So you want to interview me? Is it a news report?" Mrs. Puddife was a fat witch with a kind face.
After learning about Alice's intentions, she insisted on treating Alice to try today's new product.
"To be precise, it's a social survey." Alice explained, "It's a survey on the employment situation of Hogwarts graduates."
"Is this a school assignment? We didn't have so many tricks back then."
"No, no, it's my own investigation." Alice looked serious, "It can be used to analyze the employment situation of British wizards, which will help me determine the direction of future employment."
"I see." Mrs. Puddife seemed to understand, "Then what question do you want to ask?"
"First of all, what level of student are you, and which school did you graduate from?"
"It's been about 15 years since I graduated from Hufflepuff."
"15 years..." Alice nodded, writing down this critical time on the parchment.
"Do you still have contact with your former classmates and friends? What kind of occupations are they engaged in now?"
"Many have not been contacted." This seemed to touch Mrs. Puddife's mind, and she took out a pink handkerchief to wipe away her tears. The handkerchief was trimmed with lace, just like the decorations in the shop.
"There are many Muggle wizards in Hufflepuff. And 'that person' hates Muggleborns the most." Mrs. Puddiffe trembled in fear when she said this.
"Sorry..." Alice was at a loss for a moment, but she didn't expect that this question would touch on Mrs. Puddiffe's painful past.
"It's okay, I got off topic. My roommate and my best friend opened a coffee shop in Germany." Mrs. Puddiff quickly adjusted her mood.
"Ms. Rosmerta from the Three Broomsticks is in my class, but she graduated from Ravenclaw."
……
"Okay, thank you very much for taking the time to answer the question, your answer helped me a lot."
After bidding farewell to Mrs. Puddiffe, Alice visited other shopkeepers and shop assistants in Hogsmeade.Among them, Ms. Rosmerta was the one who influenced her the most.
The Three Broomsticks Bar is different from Madame Puddiffe’s Teahouse in that the spacious and bright bar gives a clean and warm feeling.Mulled mead, red wine, cherry juice and, most famously, butter beer all make the bar's business very good.
Ms. Rosmerta seems to have a wide range of friends, and she knows each friend's employment situation very well, and she is very helpful to Alice.
Alice spent three full weekends in Hogsmeade.
"Okay, the scope of the sample is the employees of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts." Looking at the report in front of her, Alice let out a long sigh of relief.
In the first month of her third year, she spent all her free time interviewing Hogwarts faculty and staff, and now she has finally expanded the scope of the sample and completed this more accurate survey report.
Compared to the professors at Hogwarts, the shopkeepers in Hodmeade are simply too easy to talk to.
Professor Flitwick and Headmaster Dumbledore are the most cooperative.Professor Dumbledore even took Alice from the student days to the freshmen who just entered school this year, and finally Alice escaped on the grounds that she had to do her homework.
The other professors asked Alice's purpose in detail before accepting the questionnaire.
The hardest ones were Filch and Snape.Filch started screaming as soon as she asked the first question, thinking that Alice was deliberately mocking him as a Squib.
Alice talked and swore to Mrs. Norris, and finally cleared up the misunderstanding.Even so, Filch avoided most of the questions.
As for Snape.Alice can only describe that interview as a disaster.Fortunately, after 5 minutes of staring and mocking, she still got an answer, although those answers were very perfunctory.
In short, after spending most of the semester and going through countless hardships, Alice got the report:
"A survey on the employment situation of Hogwarts graduates"
([-]) Purpose of investigation: Born as a Muggle, I have no effective understanding of the employment situation of wizards.Based on the current fierce market competition in the Muggle world, I guess that employment in the wizarding world will also be severe. So this survey was done to understand the type of wizards that the wizarding society really needs. This will guide my future study direction and will be of great benefit to employment.
([-]) Number of investigators: Alice Hall, Peggy Brown and Carrie Jones. The main part was done by myself, and Peggy and Carrie participated in part of Hogsmeade's investigation.
([-]) Investigation objects: Hodmeade store owner and clerk, all Hogwarts faculty and staff.
(1983) Investigation time: It started on September 9, 10 and lasted nearly two months.
([-]) Survey method: On-site interviews are the main method. Due to the heavy workload of Hogwarts faculty and staff, some questionnaires are used. (Please refer to the appendix for the questionnaire and statistics)
([-]) Preliminary preparation: I consulted the statistics of the number of students in the Hogwarts library and the article "Wizard Census and Age Distribution" in the "Daily Prophet" this year. (See the appendix for a copy of the information)
(VII) Survey results: In this survey, 70.00% of the respondents belong to the age group of 30~70 years old in various industries and at all levels. From the results of the survey, it is found that most people start to think about employment issues in the employment counseling before the fifth grade OWLs exam. The employment consultation before the NEWTs exam in the seventh grade will determine your occupation. What needs to be specially explained here is that many people choose their employment direction based on their grades, and some people do not really consider employment until they graduate.
What is shocking to me is that even students who do not have outstanding grades find jobs very quickly after they are employed.Only some of them are self-employed.Although graduates have different jobs and incomes, they can all meet basic living needs.
Unlike the Muggle world, because of the limitation of the number of wizards, academic research earns more income than commercial operations. (Special industries such as Quidditch stars are ignored here, because most practitioners will be discovered when they are teenagers, so they have no reference value.)
For example, apart from the booming Three Broomsticks bar, etc., the income of Hogwarts teachers is higher than that of most shopkeepers in Hogsmeade.
It is worth noting that among the teaching staff, the extra-salary income of professors with additional research results does not seem to be a small amount. (There are doubts here, mostly revealed by other professors, and Professor Snape himself refused to answer related questions.)
([-]) Analysis of survey results: According to the survey, there are far more jobs in the wizarding society than there are Hogwarts graduates every year.Among them, the proportion of low-paying jobs is much higher than that of high-paying jobs.Even so, the basic salary can still meet the basic living needs of most people.Low-paying jobs have low recruitment requirements, while high-paying jobs require academic talents.
([-]) Existing problems in the survey and reflections: The biggest problem with this survey is that the survey samples are too small. However, considering that wizards are originally sparsely populated, the survey still has a certain degree of universality.
In addition, the lack of cooperation of some faculty members also brought challenges to the investigation. Fortunately, the side-view obtained through interviews with other people ensured the accuracy of the investigation.
([-]) Explanation and Statement: This survey is only for private research and discussion, and will not be used for profit. All respondents were informed of the purpose of the investigation in advance and agreed to release relevant identity information. The privacy questions designed in the survey are all optional, fully respecting the privacy of the respondents.
([-]) Appendices: Hogwarts Library's historical student population statistics table, "Wizard Census and Age Distribution".
Alice looked at the final report and couldn't help frowning. She realized that her guess and direction of effort had gone wrong from the very beginning!
I still made a preconceived mistake, naively thinking that wizards and Muggles are the same.
In the wizarding society, mid- to high-salary jobs really place great emphasis on academic performance. Of course, having 12 Os is great, but to get the highest first-class income, one needs not all-rounders but masters!
Fortunately, it is not too late to know now, Alice immediately decided to adjust her study direction.
Of course, 12 O's are the most basic, but she can't study blindly like before. She must immediately determine her future research direction and specialize in one from now on.
It is best to be able to publish even the simplest professional paper alone in the senior year, so that the experimental results can be published as soon as possible after graduation.
Elective courses are excluded first. Although Alice is interested in them all, she is only interested.
The compulsory courses are the painful history of magic and astronomy, as well as the untalented Quidditch.
Alice hasn't learned much about Defense Against the Dark Arts so far.Charms and transfiguration, she still prefers practical applications.
Only Herbalism and Potions remained. After hesitating for a moment, Alice still chose herbalism.
After all, she has always been very interested in those strange-shaped plants, and it is easier to get started than potions.
Moreover, thinking of researching potions would have to hide in the cellar every day like Professor Snape, Alice was daunted.I was afraid that the potion would not produce anything in the end, and my hair would become greasy.
After thinking about it, Alice nodded, took out the parchment and wrote a letter, planning to send it to Principal Dumbledore along with the investigation report.
In the letter, Alice suggested that a career introduction class be set up in the lower grades, which is different from the employment consultation in the middle and upper grades. This class mainly introduces the employment situation of various occupations, competitive pressure, etc.
Alice took the letter and went out excitedly. This matter was a success, but it would be of great benefit to the future of the students.
Wait, I seem to have forgotten something.
Alice ran back to the room.I almost forgot to write it down, and I have to tell the principal to keep it secret, and never reveal that I proposed a new course.

The author has something to say:
Then some readers said that wisdom teeth are all after 20 years old.It is very sad that I had wisdom teeth in the first year of high school, and even a friend of mine had the first wisdom teeth in the first year of high school.
Considering that most foreigners develop earlier, I think Alice's wisdom teeth should not be a big problem.
