Chapter 44 The Legendary Black Shop
Harry looked up at Professor McGonagall again. The latter was staring at him intently, with an expression of interest rather than reproach. That's right, he thought. He's only heard of knee pads and wrist guards, but where has he heard of protective rings? But then again, Voldemort conjured up a new ring, supposedly to tell him to take the fake one; but they feel exactly the same, which one is which?
"...the one on the left." Voldemort's voice sounded in Harry's head again, sounding a bit forbearing.
Harry felt that this must be a sign that the other party was going to get angry-you know that Voldemort's tone on the court just now was very bad-he quickly took out the one on the left and handed it to Professor McGonagall. In the process, he took a look at it himself, and found that the new ring looked exactly like the original one, except that the black gem could not be the Resurrection Stone, and the Deathly Hallows logo was not engraved on it.
Professor McGonagall's attention was immediately drawn away. "Is this the one?" She picked it up and pointed it at the light, her expression was obviously curious this time. "It looks like a..." The next words were swallowed by herself, and the topic changed to another: "Can I ask where you got it?"
Sure enough, Harry thought to himself. "The diary was changed," he said, watching Professor McGonagall's reaction carefully.Seeing that the other party showed a look of incomprehension, he continued to explain: "I don't know if you have heard Professor Dumbledore say that I once bought a diary. The owner once said that it can be used for a new look. Solved, but actually can't. I want to return it, but the owner only agrees to exchange it for me."
"Oh, a diary was exchanged for a solid gold ring? There are gemstones on it? It sounds like you made a good deal, Mr. Potter." Professor McGonagall raised an eyebrow after hearing his story, obviously not how to believe. "I'll ask Professor Dumbledore about this story."
"I didn't know before, I thought it was just a ring." Harry finished the reason smoothly. This is not an absolute lie, at least he really did not expect that Voldemort would risk being discovered to save him.
Professor McGonagall stared at him again, as if judging the truth of his words. Finally, she said, "There is one more thing I must ask for your consent, about this ring..."
"You can check it, it's okay, Professor." Harry almost couldn't wait.Although he felt that his lie was not very good, but there are so many weird things in Knockturn Alley, and he would not be discovered if he just fabricated one. Then he realized that he spoke too quickly, and hurriedly added: "I've also been suspecting that it's a black shop, and it doesn't feel good to hold something that doesn't come from the right track."
Professor McGonagall nodded appreciatively. "Very well, that's it. You go back, there must be many people waiting for you in the common room."
Harry said goodbye and turned to go out. After closing the door and walking through two corridors, he dared to stop and ask, "What is that ring?" It was undoubtedly created by Voldemort, but it couldn't have been created out of thin air, could it?That is totally against the laws of magic!
"It's not for you to know," Voldemort replied, his tone obviously relaxed.
"Who is that..." Should I know? Before Harry finished asking this question, he guessed the directivity. "You won't tell me that it will change into its original shape as soon as it reaches Professor Dumbledore?" He asked in shock, somehow thinking of the mouse incident at the beginning of school last year.
"To his excessive curiosity." Voldemort's taunt was clearly affirmative. "You know, there's a thing called a disposable."
Harry paused. He realized the effect Voldemort wanted to create-the other party wanted others to think that the ring was for emergency use, and that it could not be used again after it was used once. Then, it is understandable to become something else. Then he remembered that the last thing he had thrown in his pocket was a handful of beetle-turned peas...
Harry thought he could roughly guess what Dumbledore would see. However, he decided not to comment on the obvious pertinence here.As long as it doesn't touch his bottom line, he can accept it; moreover, there is the ubiquitous confidentiality clause!
Voldemort seemed content with his silence. "So, your reasoning just now was pretty good." The gold ring was actually a small beetle, which further confirmed Harry's claim that he met a black shopkeeper.
Harry thought of that too, and was silent about it too.He didn't know it at all, so it was a complete mistake.
"Anyway, if there's only one fool to deal with this year, it should be easy enough," concluded Voldemort, "forget about it."
Harry should have felt the same way when he heard that, but suddenly he realized that he hadn't told Voldemort about Reaper's additional demands this year.He thought about it, but still found it difficult to speak.Voldemort felt that he had played Dumbledore and was complacent about it, but in fact they were the two who entered the black shop early in the morning, right?Of course, when he thought this way, he didn't forget about Occlumency.
Half an hour later, the principal's office.
"I can draw a bold conclusion that it is a beetle." Dumbledore sat behind the table, his blue eyes fell on the insects crawling around on the table through the half-moon lens.
Professor McGonagall obviously couldn't believe it. "Isn't it easy to tell from ordinary transfiguration?" She asked, "Can this ring keep its original shape for such a long time after saving Harry?" What she didn't say was how amazing it was. Brilliant metamorphosis!
"Anyway, this looks more useful than Harry's last diary," said Dumbledore. "I'm more interested in the store Harry went to now. It probably takes me a lot of time to search Diagon Alley." However, he felt that if this thing wasn't without black magic, it was more like an overturned Alley produced items.
"We'll wait until Moody gets around to check on the broom, will we?" asked Professor McGonagall again. Then she looked at the beetle that had turned into its original form, and somehow felt a little familiar, but she didn't take it seriously. "But this beetle..."
"I'm afraid Harry already has a pet," said Dumbledore.
"Then when the results of the broom come out, I'll tell him together." McGonagall said at last. Then they said good-bye to each other, and Professor McGonagall opened the door and went out.
After the sound of the spiral door ladder died down, Dumbledore didn't take his eyes off the beetle. There was nothing special about the bug, he was sure; but the shape of the ring was so special that he recognized it at first sight.During the ball game, the ring just flashed by, and he didn't see enough details; but after observing carefully now, he found that although the shape of the ring was exactly the same as the one worn by Tom Riddle, but The most critical part is wrong - the gemstone is not a soul-returning stone, and there is no pattern composed of triangles, circles, and vertical lines inside.
Is this just an accident?Or, did something happen that he didn't know about?Dumbledore raised his head, looked at the endless forest outside the window, and fell into a new round of contemplation.
After the Quidditch season, it's getting colder. In the second week of December, Professor McGonagall took a form and asked the remaining students to sign it.Harry had heard that Malfoy was staying at school, but he didn't feel threatened—without the diary, Malfoy couldn't do much by himself.
Hermione is going home to spend Christmas with her parents, and Ron and Harry have agreed to fly directly if they want to meet.Because Harry was definitely not going back to Privet Drive, but staying with his godfather.Sirius had been looking forward to Christmas for a long time, and he could almost wish Harry was in his third year - so he could meet Harry at Hogsmeade this weekend.
Another thing to mention is that Harry's broom hasn't returned yet. This pissed Wood off because the Meteor was so slow it had no training effect, but Harry himself didn't mind.He wanted to inquire more about Voldemort's ability to extract silk from the ring, but the other party was not revealing about it at all.
Harry had no desire to join Lockhart's dueling club for reasons that already knew what was going to happen.Of course, Lockhart couldn't do it alone, but he had Snape on board, which meant it would attract Slytherin students.Harry felt that he was never short of trouble, and of course he didn't need to make a special trip to participate and then be found out that he could speak Parseltongue in full view.First the diary, then the ring, he can guarantee that Dumbledore must have thought of Voldemort. And the last thing he can do now is to add to this suspicion - so it's no wonder that Dumbledore doesn't think he is possessed by Voldemort!
Hermione had no interest in dueling, but Ron was different. He wanted to see it very much, but he couldn't persuade Harry to insist, and finally gave up.The three of them stayed in the tower to do their homework until the few who had gone to attend returned.
"It's boring, I thought I'd see Lockhart teach Snape a lesson," one said sullenly.
"I thought so too..." another person replied feebly, "I saw a bunch of 'Charentella Dance' and 'Front Teeth Match Big Stick'!"
More people returned to the tower, bringing more complaints.Ron heard these words and touched Harry's arm: "Look, now we're not the only ones who know that Lockhart is an idiot."
Harry glanced at Hermione. He was staring at the parchment, seemingly not hearing, and then he reached out and touched Hermione.
Hermione turned her head almost immediately, obviously hearing everything. "Okay, I admit that I'm Hua..." Her face was flushed, but the words suddenly got stuck in the middle.Because she saw Harry holding his wand to her mouth and saying something quickly.
"Don't worry, Hermione, it's just an early Christmas present for you." Harry put down his wand.He was touched by the "front teeth" he heard just now, and felt that this was a good time.
Hermione touched her mouth with an expression of astonishment, and immediately realized that her buck teeth had retracted. "That's great, Harry! I love this gift!"
