Chapter 29 Good Night, Grade 6
Harry felt his feet hit the ground, his injured leg gave way, and he fell to the ground, finally letting go of the Triwizard Cup.He looks up.
"Where are we?" he asked.
Cedric shook his head.He stood up and pulled Harry up, and the two of them looked around.
It was completely outside the boundaries of Hogwarts, and they had apparently flown miles—perhaps hundreds, because not even the hills surrounding the castle had disappeared. They stood in a dark, overgrown cemetery and could see the black silhouette of a small church behind a tall yew tree to the right. On the left is a hill.Harry could make out a fine old house on the hillside.
Cedric looked down at the Triwizard Cup, then up at Harry.
"Did anyone ever tell you that the trophy was a portkey?" he asked.
"No," said Harry. He looked at the cemetery, and the surroundings were gloomy and silent. "Is that part of the game too?"
"I don't know," said Cedric, in a strained voice, "draw your wand, what do you think?"
"Okay." Harry was glad Cedric said it first.
They drew their wands, and Harry kept glancing around. He had that strange feeling again, as if someone was watching them.
"Someone is coming," he said suddenly.
Nervously, they squinted their eyes and looked into the darkness. A figure was walking towards them step by step between the graves.Harry couldn't make out the man's face, but from his gait and the position of his arms, he seemed to be holding something. He is short in stature and wears a hooded cloak that hides his face.A few steps closer - and the distance between them shrinking, Harry could see that the man was holding what looked like a baby - or was it just a bag of clothes?
Harry lowered his wand slightly. He looked at Cedric, and Cedric gave him a questioning glance. The two turned their heads to stare at the approaching figure.
The man stopped before a towering marble headstone, only six feet away from them. For a split second, Harry and Cedric met the diminutive figure's eyes.
Suddenly, Harry's scar ached sharply. He had never felt such severe pain in his life. The wand slipped to the ground, he covered his face with his hands, his legs bent and fell to the ground, he couldn't see anything in front of him, and his head seemed to explode.
He heard someone above his head say loudly and coldly: "Kill whoever gets in the way."
A whoosh, then a shrill cry pierced the night sky.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A bright green light pierced Harry's eyelids, and he heard something fall heavily beside him.The scar hurt so badly that he felt nauseous. Then the pain subsided, and he slowly opened his stinging eyes in terror.
Cedric lay sprawled on the ground, dead.
For a never-ending second, Harry stared blankly at Cedric's face, at his expressionless gray eyes like the windows of an abandoned house, his mouth half-opened in a slightly be surprised.Harry's brain couldn't accept the sight in front of him, and he didn't feel anything except a vague sense of disbelief.Just then, he felt himself being dragged up.
Harry felt himself fall to the ground, his face buried in the grass, the smell of grass filling his nose.He had closed his eyes when the Portkey had taken him flying, and he remained closed and motionless now.All strength seemed to be gone.He was so dizzy that the ground beneath him was shaking like the deck of a ship.To steady himself, he tightened his grip on the two things still in his hands: the smooth handle of the Triwizard Cup and Cedric's body.He felt that if he let go of one of them, he would slide into the darkness gathering around the edges of his mind.Fear and fatigue made him lie on the ground, smelling the grass, waiting...waiting for someone to do something...waiting for something to happen...while the scar on his forehead kept burning...
A wave of noise overwhelmed him, bewildering, there were voices everywhere, footsteps, shouts... He frowned tightly, as if it was a nightmare that would soon pass...
A pair of strong hands grabbed him and turned him over.
There was a starry night sky in front of him, and Albus Dumbledore crouched in front of him. There were dark figures all around, all pushing towards him.Harry could feel the ground under his head vibrate slightly with their footsteps.
He had returned to the edge of the labyrinth, and he could see the high stands around him, people walking on them, and the stars twinkling overhead.
Harry let go of the trophy, but tightened his grip on Cedric. He grasped Dumbledore's wrist with his free hand, and Dumbledore's face was alternately clear and blurred.
"He's back," Harry whispered, "Voldemort he's back."
"What's wrong? What happened?"
The upside-down face of Cornelius Fudge appeared before Harry, pale and frightened.
"My God . . . Digory!" he said, "Dumbledore . . . he's dead!"
Word spread, and the horrified dark figure that was squeezing in spread it to those around it... Others shouted—screams rang out through the night—"He's dead!" "He's dead!" "Cedric Diggory! Dead!"
"Harry, let him go," he heard Fudge's voice say, and felt his fingers being pulled, trying to get him to let go of Cedric's body, but Harry held onto it desperately. Then Dumbledore's face moved closer, still blurry.
"Harry, you can't help him anymore, it's over. Let go."
"He wants me to bring him back," Harry whispered—it seemed important to say, "to his parents."
"Okay, Harry...let go..."
Dumbledore leaned over and lifted Harry to his feet with unnatural strength for a gaunt old man.Harry reeled, his head hammering like a hammer, his injured leg unable to support the weight of his body. The crowd pushed and pushed forward, and approached him blackly—"What's going on?" "What's wrong with him?" "Digory's dead!"
"He needs to go to the school hospital!" cried Fudge. "He's sick and hurt—Dumbledore, Diggory's parents are here. In the stands . . . "
"I'll take Harry, Dumbledore, I'll take him—"
"No, I think—"
"Dumbledore, Amos Diggory is running...he's coming...would you like to tell him first—before he sees—"
"Harry, stay here—"
The girls were screaming and crying hysterically... the scene flashed eerily before Harry's eyes...
"It's okay, kid, I'm here... let's go... go to the hospital..."
"Dumbledore said 'stay here,'" Harry mumbled, his vision blurring even further as the throbbing pain in his scar made him nauseous.
"You need to lie down... let's go..."
A taller and stronger man half-dragged and half-hugged him through the terrified crowd.Harry heard people gasping, screaming, shouting. The man squeezed him out of the crowd and walked towards the castle. All Harry heard was the man's heavy breathing, past the lawn, the lake, and the big ship in Durmstrang.
"What? Cedric is dead? I don't believe it? Impossible!" I heard people around me saying this, and there was even a cry or two.Ann was a little dazed. She pushed away Susan and Cynthia who were supporting her, and stumbled towards Cedric.
Impossible, he won't die.He was obviously wearing the necklace she gave him.Although it is not a very good alchemy product, it can resist some black magic.
The people around gave way to Ann.Anmu walked in front of Cedric with a straight face, and the Diggory and his wife were there. Mrs. Diggory seemed to be fainting in the next second, and Mr. Diggory was also on the verge of falling.
Ann knelt on the grass and reached out to feel for Cedric's carotid artery. There was no pulse, no breathing.Ann was a little desperate, when she saw the necklace Cedric was wearing, and the sapphire was broken.
In other words, it should have resisted part of the damage. He should not have died. For some reason, Ann looked surprisingly calm at this moment.
Ann turned to look at Professor Dumbledore, said with a pale face, "Send Seid to St. Mungo, he is not dead. My necklace protected him from some damage, he should have been injured by black magic , but not dead. Unless the person who did it is that person."
Hearing this, the Diggory couple seemed to regain some consciousness. They looked at Ann, not knowing what to say. They just opened their mouths and did not speak for a while, but the tears in their eyes did not stop.Dumbledore was also taken aback when he heard it, and directed the others to send Cedric to St. Mungo. The Digorys followed.Although An also wanted to follow, but there was no reason, she could only stand in place and watch them go away.
"Ann, it's okay, it's okay." Susan comforted An in a soft voice. An raised her eyelids in confusion, and saw a familiar face. At that moment, something seemed to collapse in her heart. An Hui hugged Susan, her eyes turned red unexpectedly, but she stubbornly refused to let the tears fall. She couldn't imagine what would happen if she didn't have this necklace, or what would happen if she didn't give it to him. Will he just die like this.He was obviously still young, he was an excellent Hufflepuff, he was also diligent and hardworking, with a dream in mind, but unfortunately he was involved in an accident and died.
It's not fair.In other words, there is no fairness at all.Since there is no fairness at all, what is the point of Seid's persistence all the time?
At this moment, An suddenly determined what he would do in the future. "I want to be an Auror, Susan." Ann looked at Susan firmly. She wanted to throw away those so-called concepts of peace and fairness. Since there is no fairness, she must be relatively fair.No matter how powerful that person is, if we join forces, there will be a way to defeat him.As for those offensive spells that she didn't pay much attention to, it's time to pick them up.
Susan looked at her friend in front of her worriedly, but said nothing. She and Cynthia accompanied Ann back to the dormitory in silence. The Hufflepuffs looked at their prefects and fell silent. The girl who was still crying also stopped crying. They followed the prefects and walked towards them lounge.
Under everyone's gaze, the Hufflepuffs returned to their respective dormitories in silence.Everyone was terribly silent, not at all like the usual Hufflepuffs.
"Ann, Professor Dumbledore is looking for you." The next day, Ann who appeared silently in the Hufflepuff common room was stopped by Zacharias. An's face was pale, but his eyes were full of determination.Looking at the expressionless Ann, Zacharias kind of missed Ann who was sticky with Cedric every day, but he didn't say anything, and everyone was very sad.But none of them felt uncomfortable.
"Oh, boy, I think you need a cup of hot milk." After Dumbledore asked the elf to give Ann a cup of hot milk, he looked at Professor McGonagall and said softly, "Cedric is not dead, but he was It may take a long time to recover, and they are working hard to remove these injuries. However, no one knows how long it will take." Dumbledore said a little sadly.
Ann clenched the hot milk in her hand, looked at Professor Dumbledore and said, "Then can I know who it is. Who did this. I want to know the truth."
Dumbledore froze for a moment, looked at Hufflepuff No.1 who seemed to have suddenly become more mature overnight, and said, "It's Barty Crouch Jr. He pretended to be Professor Moody. He put Harry's name in it, he was the one who indirectly told Harry and Diggory about the first and second items, and in the end, he was the one who turned the trophy into a portkey. He even almost used Krum Kill Digory. He's a Death Eater."
"Then, is Voldemort really back?" At the moment that name was blurted out, Ann suddenly felt that the fear she had been feeling all along was not that important anymore. There is a fire burning in her heart now, the kind that won't stop until it burns dry.
After getting an affirmative answer from Professor Dumbledore, Ann left the principal's office.
Ann clenched the wand in her hand, she made a decision, she wanted to fight against that person, no matter how powerful that person was, she would not give up.
Ann was still the first in the grade in the final exam this time, and she seemed to be mad at studying like crazy. No one will persuade you.Facing the result of all O's, Ann didn't feel any happy emotion, because Hufflepuff's No.2 was not Cedric.
On the last day of the sixth grade, the headmaster began to speak as usual. The atmosphere in Hogwarts was very dull, and even the savior didn't look like Gryffindor was full of vigor.
"Cedric exemplifies all the qualities that are characteristic of Hufflepuff house," continued Dumbledore. "He was a kind, loyal friend, a hardworking student, and he valued fair play. All of you were shocked, whether you knew him or not. So I think you have a right to know what happened."
Hearing this, Ann raised her head and looked at Dumbledore. She felt as if something had pricked her heart. But there was no expression on her face. She felt that her face was already stiff, and she couldn't flexibly let it show any expression.
"Cedric Diggory was wounded like this by Voldemort's Dark Arts spell."
There was a nervous murmur in the auditorium.Everyone stared at Dumbledore in horror and disbelief.Ann looked at Harry, who looked very calm, and Ann watched their muttering gradually subside. However, the voice in her heart did not become silent, but became louder and louder. The voice was clamoring, burning An's reason.
"The Ministry of Magic doesn't want me to tell you this," continued Dumbledore. "Some of the parents of some of my classmates might be shocked by what I did - either because they couldn't believe that Voldemort had really returned, or because they thought I shouldn't be telling you this because you're young. However I believe it's always better to tell the truth than to lie if we're trying to make Cedric's near death an accident or blame it on him His own carelessness is an insult to his image."
At this time, every face in the auditorium was turned towards Dumbledore, and shock and fear were written on every face... Ann's heart twitched, but she didn't react.
"In speaking of the injuries suffered by Cedric there must be another person mentioned," continued Dumbledore. "I am speaking, of course, of Harry Potter."
There was a stir in the Great Hall, and several people turned their heads to Harry, and then quickly turned back to look at Dumbledore.
"Harry Potter escaped Voldemort," said Dumbledore, "and he risked his life to bring Cedric back to Hogwarts. Few wizards have displayed such spirit in the face of Voldemort's majesty, and for that I salute him."
Dumbledore turned gravely to Harry, raising his goblet once more.Almost everyone in the auditorium did. They whispered Harry's name as they had just said Cedric's, and toasted him.
After everyone was seated again, Dumbledore added: "The purpose of the Triwizard Tournament is to enhance and promote mutual understanding in the wizarding world. Given what is happening now - given Voldemort's return to life - this connection is stronger than ever before. more important."
Dumbledore looked at Lady Maxime and Hagrid, at Fleur Delacour and her Beauxbatons alumni, at Victor Krum and Dem at the Slytherin table Strong's classmate.
"Every guest in this hall," said Dumbledore, his eyes fixed on Durmstrang's classmates, "is welcome any time they wish to come back. I repeat to all of you— - In view of Voldemort's return to life, we are only strong when we are united, and we are vulnerable if we are divided. Voldemort's methods of creating conflict and hostility are very clever. We can only fight it to the end if we show the same unbreakable friendship and trust. As long as we Agreed goals, an open mind, and differences in habits and language don’t get in the way.”
"I believe - and I hope I'm mistaken - that dark and difficult times are ahead for us all. Some of you in the Great Hall have been directly victimized by Voldemort's poison. Many of your families have been torn apart .A week ago, a classmate among us was killed."
"Remember Cedric. When you have to choose between the right way and the short way, please don't forget a just, kind, brave boy who suffered such a tragic fate because of his unexpected encounter with Voldemort. Always remember Cedric Diggory."
It sounded like he was writing a eulogy for Cedric. But Ann still didn't say anything. Sometimes, getting people to remember these words is actually much more difficult than making them believe gossip.
It is another beautiful and pleasant summer day.The yard is full of foliage, and the flower garden is full of colorful flowers. The thought that Cedric could not see this did not give her the slightest joy.
